“Ach, we’re all a bit weird in our own way”

Do you think you’re a bit odd or do you think you’re completely normal?

I have a theory. Grin

Doesn't everyone have their own little foibles / ways of doing stuff which mean that we find others 'different' or 'not normal' (with 'normal' meaning how we do something)?

Humans are creatures of habit and anyone doing things in a way which don't match our habits is grating on us.

@Eastie77 it was a smallish bean bag wrapped up in the duvet cover.
She’s verrry environmental friendly so I think she felt uncomfortable using a lot of wrapping paper. But she’s now wasted a whole duvet set which is surely much worse, but now not her problem as it’s here. Charity shop here we come as I’m not starting the whole Christmas bedding thing.

The only place you’ll find ‘normal’ is on a washing machine

Embrace your weirdness

Stockmarketup · 27/12/2019 09:59

I don’t think I’m weird or odd in any way.
I think I’m the most normal, (dull), well balanced person I’ve ever come across.
I don’t do drama, hysterics, mood swings, weird behaviour, quirks, whatever. I’m the same all the time.
If you drew a straight line, that would be me.

Eastie77 · 27/12/2019 13:05

Pulling - that sounds...interesting but I love people who pull random shit like that so I might like your mumGrin

I was told by manager at work that I needed to raise my profile and copy some of my extrovert colleagues who constantly tell everyone and anyone about their achievements and get lots of praise. My company runs a cringeworthy 'shout out' session each week where deserving members of the team get a high-five and special mention from a senior manager in a team meeting. I find the whole thing quite embarrassing, it reminds me of primary school and the awards given to kids in assembly each week for good work.

Honeybee85 · 27/12/2019 13:07

Nothing wrong with being a little weird.
Makes you a more interesting person IMO.
Perfection is boring.

thingamijig1 · 27/12/2019 13:20

What is normal anyway? That's what I'd like to know.

PickledLilly · 27/12/2019 13:37

I think on the surface of things I’m quite ‘normal’ but I have a lot of asd type traits so I’m not typical. I’ve worked quite hard at trying to present as being normal but I do find it a struggle. I suspect the people who revel in their supposed zany weirdness are actually quite normal and the people who genuinely are a bit different to the norm are trying to fit in.

Okbutno · 27/12/2019 14:03

I think we're all a bit odd. But not many off us are so odd we really are outside od societal norms. I think mos of our oddities are things someone somewhere would do just not everyone. So the example of the duvet wrapping seems odd to me but the fox feeding not so much! Equally she might find my wrapping and decorating of presents odd. I think in general it's about whether it causes you problems or not.

PlasticPatty · 27/12/2019 14:05

OP, your mother is weird. Hope that reassures you.

I, too, am weird.

Grasspigeons · 27/12/2019 14:14

Im normal. Most of my values, interests and life decisions are in line with the average for society i live in. I have quirks and foibles ut thats just being human.

Somanysocks · 27/12/2019 15:39

I think I'm normal. However a fly on the wall might disagree.

RoryRoryTellUsAStory · 27/12/2019 21:41

I always tell my children that everyone’s their own weird. Generally in reaction to them describing someone at school as weird but I think that it everyone is weird in their own way, with their own quirks, but some people are just better at hiding it - or just more inclined to.
