Do you think you’re a bit odd or do you think you’re completely normal?

I have a theory. Grin

I think Im ordinary but ok with that

metalkprettyoneday · 26/12/2019 21:36

I think I heard that Alain de Botton say something about .. people we view as normal are just people we don’t know that well .
It made me think how , we can all perform ‘ normality ‘ with other people . But how many do we reveal our weird, messed up selves to?

0blio · 26/12/2019 21:36

I'm quite odd and as I've got older I've got more and more 'set in my ways'.

When I was young I just wanted to be the same as everyone else and fit in, but now I don't give a shit and embrace the weirdness Crown Grin

1plus2equalstrouble · 26/12/2019 21:36

It’s the people convinced they’re normal who are the weirdest.
This. There is no normal.

NCasIknowMNetters · 26/12/2019 21:36

As a family we aim for 'a bit bonkers'. Life's not fun without a quirk or two.

PerfectPretender · 26/12/2019 21:37

Everyone is weird but me.

0blio · 26/12/2019 21:37

And I find that the more I disclose my oddities to people, the more they open up about their weirdnesses!

Khione · 26/12/2019 21:37

according to my 'friends' I'm quirky.

BUT few people think they are normal IME

0blio · 26/12/2019 21:38

What's your theory OP?

TrainspottingWelsh · 26/12/2019 21:39

I probably am weird because I genuinely think I'm entirely normal and it's other people that are weird.

Evilmorty · 26/12/2019 21:41

I don’t think it’s the people who think they are normal who are the weirdest. My best friend is totally normal. Not a single weird or strange thing about her, she would not ever once deviate from mainstream opinion or taste. If it is in fashion, she likes it. When it’s out of fashion, she hates it. Anything where she is pressed to give a yes or no like do you like the royal family, she says she doesn’t know and waits for you to speak and then agrees.

It’s like her personality is a chalk board that has been written on by everyone she has ever met. My personality is automatic writing like the poltergeists do Grin

Lofari · 26/12/2019 21:45

Normal is boring

ShouldI101 · 26/12/2019 21:46

I probably am weird because I genuinely think I'm entirely normal and it's other people that are weird

Me too. I'm the only normal person left in my wee corner of the world.

Tofslan · 26/12/2019 21:48

The ways in which I thought I was odd and unusual when I was younger I have found to be pretty much all things that are ‘normal’.

But some of the things I never thought about - that I thought everyone did - are the things I have come to realise are my oddities.

I really like about getting older the fact that I can find similarities with all sorts of different people, and can find my own lonely eccentricities echoed in other people all over the world.

WeMarchOn · 26/12/2019 21:50

I'm Autistic and weird, i won't change who i am

jaimebravo · 26/12/2019 21:53

I'm weird and quirky, i am a square peg in a round world!

Karenisbaren · 26/12/2019 21:56

I dont think I know anyone thats normal.

MagicKingdom17 · 26/12/2019 22:00

I would like to say I am strange and unusual Wink.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 26/12/2019 22:00

Can I just check if something is normal please? Does everybody have a fantasy "other self"? Mine is a 16th century merchant's wife, who spends her time brewing ale, tending to the sick and poor and preserving foodstuffs. She wears a very swishy skirt and has a jangly ring of keys hanging from her belt. Pretending to be my other self has got me through a lot of really bad days, but I've never told anyone about her, so I have no idea of everyone does this or not.

LostInTesco · 26/12/2019 22:02

Totally do that @DontDribbleOnTheCarpet

Medieval peasant here

1plus2equalstrouble · 26/12/2019 22:02

@Evilmorty isn't think it's partic normal to be so unformed in your own likes and dislikes, your own interests etc, or to be so insecure about your own sense of self as to be so heavily influenced by the world

serialnc · 26/12/2019 22:05

Atypical definitely Grin

Howmanysleepsnow · 26/12/2019 22:05

@DontDribbleOnTheCarpet I don’t but it sounds great and I wish I did!
I don’t know what normal is but definitely think I’m pretty ordinary.

PullingMySocksUp · 26/12/2019 22:09

But @Evilmorty I think this is quite odd - Anything where she is pressed to give a yes or no like do you like the royal family, she says she doesn’t know and waits for you to speak and then agrees.
