Just as the title says.

If you're working today, what is it that you do for a living?

My dh is in the merchant navy and he gets every 3rd/4th year off. He’s off this Christmas Though💕yay!

Phillipa12 · 25/12/2019 11:57

Im a homecare assistant, my boys are with their dad so i offered to work yesterday, today and tomorrow. Luckily its a very small firm and although yesterday was really busy ive only 1 gent to see today. I ran to his house got him up, washed and dressed and then ran home, have sat in a bath for 1hr, then after lunch will see my gent tonight to put him in his pjs. So working but very loosely and no alcohol for me today or tomorrow. Have new years off though!

I don’t work with horses anymore but I used to work Christmas when I ran a very posh full livery yard, so had sole charge of 12 horses. It was hard on my own as everything had to be perfect but the owners were lovely and I got loads of chocolates etc.

This afternoon I’m doing my yard owner’s horses so she doesn’t have to rush back from her mum’s, so I have mine, seven others, four dogs and about 60 chickens to put to bed, feed, muck out etc. Will be lovely to get some fresh air and peace after Christmas lunch.

Hope you all have a good day today xx

DH is often on call over Xmas (IT consultant)

ExBIL (graphic designer) had to work to get many websites up for the sales.

If much prefer to work Xmas day/Boxing Day, but as a HR manager in the NHS I don’t get the option. Sad

TheFairyCaravan · 25/12/2019 12:18

DS2 is working . He's a nurse in A&E.

DH is in the RAF and has worked, and been away, at Christmas in the past. DS1 is in the army and is going to be deployed next Christmas.

MagentaRocks · 25/12/2019 12:20

Police control room. Due to start work shortly.

maddiemookins16mum · 25/12/2019 12:27

@PhoenixReincarnated my DP used to do the late/sleep/early on Christmas Eve/day too.

differentkindofpenguin · 25/12/2019 12:46

Walk in centre nurse.
Previously worked in ICU and elderly care, always work some part of Xmas
Work it around the kids normally, so cooking dinner now, then off to work til 10

Teedeepie · 25/12/2019 12:57

I work for law enforcement too and off to work shortly til midnight. But off tomorrow so that will be our Christmas Day. Merry Christmas to all Wine

FatLassNumber1 · 25/12/2019 12:57

I'm a community first responder on call today. No pay but it feels better than being at home with stbxh and kids are all away at parters this year.

Christmas is a bit of a non event as DM passed away less than a month ago and still waiting for the funeral

FreyaMountstuart · 25/12/2019 13:04

Regulation - but not in the U.K. - did finish early though. Chilling on my own as turned down offers to join other ex-pats! Bliss

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/12/2019 13:04

Not now but used to be a cleaner in a care home.
Everyone forgets the other staff so only the carers ever got gifts.

Emmacb82 · 25/12/2019 13:09

Paeds nurse here. Am working the night shift tonight so just had our Xmas dinner early. However hard it is to leave family at Christmas, it’s not as bad as those poor people in hospital x

ClientListQueen · 25/12/2019 13:21

Water company is working - they seem to currently be digging up something outside my living room window!

Thelonewanderer · 25/12/2019 13:25

Cleaner in a care home, been here since 530am. Will be clocking off in a couple of hours though. Back in tomorrow. I wouldn't have it any other way

Thehagonthehillwithtinsel · 25/12/2019 13:26

3 night shifts from tonight. Also on my own as DC with father this week.
I will have a lone Christmas dinner, watch box sets on TV until work.
I am joining family at the weekend though.

runningtogetskinny · 25/12/2019 13:28

Deputy manager in a children's home, I'm not working today but will be in tomorrow, obviously we're staffed 24-7. Everyone does their best to make it special but it always feels sad for the ones who have nowhere else to go on Christmas Day

han01uk · 25/12/2019 13:29

Neonatal intensive care nurse...no double pay or bonus here! But we do get to hand out stockings to all the poorly babies so worth it! 🎅🏼

Pipandmum · 25/12/2019 13:30

My sister is a psychiatrist working in a residential hospital which requires her to stay overnight - doing the Christmas Eve to Boxing Day shift this year.

LINABE · 25/12/2019 13:32

Flight Attendant long haul and currently far far away from home.

Layoverlife · 25/12/2019 13:32

Ambulance service front line 😭

foamrolling · 25/12/2019 13:35

Oh Karen, that sounds very rough! I'm working this evening and every evening for the following week. I'm a call handler for 111. It'll be busy but most of our callers are perfectly pleasant. Wishing everyone peaceful shifts.

Thehagonthehillwithtinsel · 25/12/2019 13:37

Double the pay would soften the blow but no where near if you work NHS.The maximum for nurses is time and a third,so same pay for Christmas night as during the day.
