It's Christmas Eve!! (I'm possibly as excited as dd2 Xmas Grin I love Christmas)

We're both up, dd2 is dressed, and I'm off to get dd1 up & get myself dressed in a minute so we can have a walk to the market for sprouts.

When we get in, they have my gifts to wrap (they're very pleased with themselves; I'm slightly worried but sure what they've picked will be lovely). I'll prep tomorrow's dinner with a Wine then my friend is calling with tomorrow's dessert that she's made for us.

What about all of you? Are you all sorted for tomorrow? Or has anyone yet to brave the supermarket/wrapping?

LOVE Christmas Eve!

Going to see Santa at his workshop, walk with the dog, watch crappy tv, lots of baking which the kids love , last minute touches around the house with a mulled wine or two and then the midnight mission of putting the presents under the tree! Christmas Eve is my fav!

DonnaDarko · 24/12/2019 08:48

hopefully try to get DS to the park but I reckon he will want to watch Cars 2 & 3 again for the upteenth time.

DP is working until midday. Once he's back, he needs to build our dining table and chairs lol.

Then we're seeing friends this afternoon to give them a gift.

No prepping for tomorrow needed as most things are frozen. I will be doing proper potatoes though!

Sitting in a house that looks like a building site, waiting for various trades to turn up and do a few last jobs...

DH has just gone to work.
I'd like to clean up, lay the table, boil the ham, take dcs out to feed the ducks and have hot chocolates somewhere.
However, I'm still in bed, contemplating a second coffee.

maddiemookins16mum · 24/12/2019 08:50

I’ve just made sausage rolls.
The gammon has gone in the slow cooker.
Washing about to be hung outside...yaay.
House is very tidy but I’ll steam the floors in a bit.
DD is in bed.
DP has taken 2 cooked (and deboned)turkeys to the cat rescue place and needs to buy some last minute presents 🤗.
Going to see Cats late morning with DD.
We have visitors arriving to stay over until Friday, they’ll be here late afternoon and we’re having a Chinese takeaway for dinner tonight.
I’m just going to set the dining table and sort of decorate the dining room as we’ll spend several hours in there tomorrow afternoon and I like it to look lovely.
That’s it, we’re ready.

BentNeckLady · 24/12/2019 08:50

Cooking a ham
Brining a turkey
Making stuffing and pigs
Making a Dundee cake (grandparents present)
Cleaning entire house

Runwayqueen · 24/12/2019 08:50

Finally attempting a weekly food shop (I know 🤦‍♀️, but we moved house at the weekend and it's been crazy). Then we'll be sorting out the final room in the new house (kitchen). We'll then pop to old house to collect a few bits and eventually settle down on the sofa and watch Home Alone.

Crunchymum · 24/12/2019 08:52

Just back from supermarket. Now home for a cooked breakfast and I'll prep veg for tomorrow and bake a cake. Kids have Xmas activity books / stickers / paperchains and we have loads of movies lined up. I'll take them for a quick scoot in the park later if they get too raucous Grin

As soon as it's dark kids will be bathed, in their Xmas PJs and we'll watch a film.

DP may call in to see some relatives later but he'll be home today to keep kids entertained / hoover and mop etc. We usually do a steak for dinner but this year we've decided to have a take away before all the festive food (we have an xmas dinner tomorrow and boxing day!). Its a toss up between Turkish or Thai at the moment.

Before bed I take the kids for a walk in their pjs, and we look for santa. Then home to leave carrots / mincepies out and wrangle the older ones to bed.

Baileys and Planes, Trains, Automobiles for me and DP. Then we'll sort the presents out and hopefully get a few hours kip.

BonfireStarter · 24/12/2019 08:52

Day off work for me and just relaxing/catching up on laundry and housework ready for tomorrow, having a small xmas with my two dc (single parent) not too much to do, quite nice really!

CigarsofthePharoahs · 24/12/2019 08:53

DH is going to clean the kitchen.
Then I am going to make some gingerbread Christmas trees.
Then I will - prep and stuff the turkey, parboil and chill the spuds and parsnips, pre steam sprouts, Cauliflower and broccoli and put together the gratin. Also pre steam and chill the carrots so I can honey glaze them.
Then I'm going to put blankets on the pigs and remaining stuffing.
Then DH will clean the kitchen again.
I think he's got the harder job.

Sharkyfan · 24/12/2019 08:54

Gravy
Tiramisu
Sticky toffee pudding
Stuffing
Laundry/tidying
Wrapping
Trying to keep kids from killing each other!
Crib service at church later

Good idea may try and get out for a solo jog/walk later for some head space!

Sewingbea · 24/12/2019 08:58

Cleaning kitchen and finishing ironing, rest of house and dry clothes were cleaned /ironed yesterday.
Prep veg.
Taking my uncle to a hospital appointment which is late afternoon (poor hospital staff) but he's in the next city along not ours so will take most of the afternoon and early evening.
Take away pizza for dinner (again, poor staff) as I'm damned if I'm cooking this evening when I'm helping to feed massed family tomorrow. Smile
And a huge thank you to all those who are working today, whatever their job may be. Xmas Smile

yomellamoHelly · 24/12/2019 08:58

First ever Christmas alone with our family. Is wonderfully quiet and peaceful here. Just sat with a pot of tea..... Meeting up with friends this afternoon. Pottering this am. ILs usually spend the day stressing (even though we've hosted the last 10 years) Is just fab

carrie74 · 24/12/2019 09:00

I'm feeling quite ill at the thought of it all.

Woke up at 7 and just spent an hour wrapping the last of the presents.

Need to go to Farm Shop to collect turkey and ham
Clean house and change spare room bed
Start food prep
Bake brownies
Kids want to go to crib service
Pub trip after crib service to see friends
Mum and Dad arriving late afternoon
Gammon to make for dinner

Am currently hidden away at the top of the house doing none of it, need to get myself going again...

chocolate26 · 24/12/2019 09:05

DH is at work today so my parents are coming over to walk our dogs together Smile I've then got to wrap DHs presents whilst watching a Christmas film! I'll probably have a bubble bath (no wine as I'm pregnant) then later when DH gets home we are going over to in laws to have dinner and open presents with them as it's our year this year with my side on Christmas Day (we take it in turns) 😃

Happy Christmas 🎄

lilgreen · 24/12/2019 09:06

@yomellamoHelly same here. Strangely calm. When it’s just us, it doesn’t really matter . Enjoy!

AuntieMarys · 24/12/2019 09:53

Full English in cafe. Off to the pub this afternoon.

MsMellivora · 24/12/2019 10:10

Posting neighbours Christmas cards through their doors.
Dropping off a present
Prep veg for tomorrow, will get DS to do most
Ringing my sister
Cooking a whole salmon for dinner tonight
DH is sorting out clean laundry and picking up DS main gift

Caroian · 24/12/2019 11:12

I was outside the butcher at 5 past 7 to collect the meat - queue was about 15 minutes but much longer when I left, so felt it was worth the early walk down. Also popped to Sainsburys and that was very quiet. No queue at the self checkout so was in and out very quickly.

Now entertaining an over excited 8 year old (currently engrossed in Santa Tracker, then we're building a Lego Christmas tree) whilst my husband works from home. He'll finish around lunch time. We'd usually go out to burn off steam, but we had flooding at the weekend and the local playgrounds, park and country park are still underwater, so a family board game will have to suffice. Will do the baking this afternoon - mince pies mainly and then ice the Christmas cake. Plus make the trifle. Husband will finish the vacuuming and dusting and clean the bathrooms. We'll have Carols from Kings on. Always have spag bol for dinner and then we'll watch The Tiger Who Came to Tea before the 8 year old goes to bed (hopefully). All wrapping was finished last night, so hopefully a chilled evening with a couple of drinks! Quiet family day before 4 days in a row of seeing others!

I will add that hosting definitely makes a big difference to how much there is to do. I'm hosting for the first time in a while and it feels like there has been a lot more work in the last couple of weeks (cleaning and shopping mainly!) To be fair though, it's also the first year in a while that I haven't worked right up to Christmas so having the day free of work is really nice.

Thecathouse · 24/12/2019 11:13

Very easy day here, made pancakes for breakfast, ate them together then partner went to work. Changed baby into clothes (how do pancakes make such a mess?) fed dogs and the rest of the zoo (dropped a tub of locusts so had to round up the escapees) bathed the tortoise and beardie.

Did some dog walking and training while pointing out things to baby.

Tidied up a bit, now having a coffee and playing with baby before i make lunch

Thecathouse · 24/12/2019 11:15

Still got a few gifts to wrap, rabbits to clean out, two more dog walks, water change on the fishes and sime housework then dinner but not too much to do otherwise

Bluewavescrashing · 24/12/2019 11:19

Pancakes for breakfast 🥞

DD and I are watching Back in Time For Christmas together--loving the 90s edition!

DS and DH went out on scooter and now have gone to the car wash.

I'm cooking turkey and cranberry burgers for lunch. Then a trip for few hours at the Zoo this afternoon (it's local to us and we have season passes).

Party tea and films this evening 🎅

IndecentFeminist · 24/12/2019 11:21

Chocolate/pastry Christmas tree for breakfast. DH has taken dog for haircut and will do last minute bits from Aldi. Big kids are playing Minecraft while I extend the table ready for tomorrow and faff about whether to put a tablecloth on. Smallest child generally being annoying toddler

Toddler will nap soon 🤞🏼 then will hopefully go for a walk this afternoon to blow away some cobwebs and get rid of some energy.

Most food prep is done, may do another batch of roast potatoes, and make a prawn cocktail for kids. There are two presents left to wrap, and may get some visitors later.

Cooking gammon joint later, will have with egg and chips for dinner and then cold over the next few days.

TheMostHappy · 24/12/2019 11:26

Poorly child unwell in bed so not a lot.

WakeyShakey · 24/12/2019 11:26

Taken dog out for a good yomp, will be nipping to the chippy for lunch then after a quick shower, will hit the pub for the remainder of the day 😁
