1 day after flu jab I had aching joints/feeling shivery, swollen glands but not a sore throat.

@Caramel78

She probably had the flu. The jab won't have caused it but doesn't protect against it until 2-3 weeks post vaccination.

AlunWynsKnee · 21/12/2019 12:06

Had mine in September. Side effects were a sore arm. Not as sore as last year either.

Baaaahhhhh · 21/12/2019 12:11

The injected vaccine is a dead vaccine. You cannot catch flu from it. Any "flu" like symptoms will be coincidental. You can however, catch a different strain which may not be in this years vaccine, but the vaccine should help reduce the symptoms of that strain too.

I’ve had a bit of a sore arm from it before but nothing more than that.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 21/12/2019 12:27

Bit of sore arm but nothing else. Had it done at work in the morning, was fine when I got home in the evening.

Flurgle · 21/12/2019 12:32

Sore arm, nothing else, same as always. And hopefully won’t die from flu as an asthmatic Smile

It’s not a live vaccine. It can’t cause flu. It only protects against certain strains as they can’t predict everything, and it doesn’t protect from colds. Really bugs me when people at work say, oh I had the jab once and it gave me flu. No it didn’t.

ginyogarepeat · 21/12/2019 12:32

Had it for years and only side effect has been a sore arm for a day or two. If you have flu-ey type symptoms it's because you were already infected with a virus at time of getting the vaccination in all likelihood.

Pericombobulations · 21/12/2019 12:38

Mum and I had ours in early October, didnt really have any effects afterwards, previous years have had a sore arm where it was injected but nothing else.

beachcomber70 · 21/12/2019 12:41

Me. No side effects this year or any years previously.

LucaFritz · 21/12/2019 12:44

Had my 1st ever flu jab in November and had no side effects apart from a slightly sore arm for a few days

Aragog · 21/12/2019 12:44

In the past very little - sore arm for a few hour after maybe.

This year - very swollen and red arm, very achy arm. Had to get it checked to make sure ok. It was, though an unpleasant reaction and it did got down after a few days.Came up over night after having the jab the day before. No illness though.

Teen dd always gets one too. No reactions there.

Celebelly · 21/12/2019 12:49

Nothing except my arm was a bit more red and swollen this year than last.

Aragog · 21/12/2019 12:49

If you have flu you can’t get out of bed.

Argh! How many threads have we had this year saying this kind of thing.

It is NOT true!

Research has been published many times showing that people can have flu with mild and even no symptoms. You wouldn't know unless you'd been swabbed. This is scientific and medical fact. Flu does not always make people so ill they cannot move!

Likewise a cold - a different illness to flu - can be mild to very heavy and make you very poorly. People have been hospitalised after having a nasty cold, not just flu.

YessicaHaircut · 21/12/2019 12:51

I usually have it and pretty much always get ill afterwards, with bad cold, feeling knackered, one year I developed a nasty ear infection. However I think it was always coincidence as I work in a school so always surrounded by germs!
This year I haven’t had the jab and touch wood, haven’t even had a mild cold.

HoHoHoik · 21/12/2019 13:24

The nasal spray is live, does that have more side effects ?

It's live but weakened, some children have a runny nose after or a very mild fever. My DC have always been fine after theirs though.

I got jo sode effects from my flu jab except a little bit of tenderness at the injection site and some mild chills/shivers overnight which is my usual immune response to having it.

If you have flu you can’t get out of bed

Not true and there is a lot of overlap between mild flu and a severe cold.

Apparently they have this year's strains fairly accurate and I would highly recommend getting children vaccinated/sprayed as this year's strains are particularly aggressive in children. There have been two child deaths locally over the last couple of weeks, both showed symptoms of flu then collapsed before dying in hospital a few days later Sad

Glittercandle · 21/12/2019 13:27

A slightly sore arm that evening. DS didn’t complain of any side effects.

RogueV · 21/12/2019 13:29

Me

No side effects

TowerRingInferno · 21/12/2019 13:42

No side effects at all

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 21/12/2019 13:44

I’ve had it. I’m pregnant. Zero side effects. It’s not a live vaccine

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/12/2019 13:44

No side effects at all.

ragged · 21/12/2019 13:47

No side effects at all.

Spied · 21/12/2019 13:50

Bit dizzy a couple of hours after having it but pretty sure it was anxiety as I had been in two minds about whether to have it and was a bit panicked- so none from the jab itself.

gamerchick · 21/12/2019 13:52

None, other than it was sore if I poked it. So I didn't poke it.

wonkylegs · 21/12/2019 13:54

None bar a sore arm well 2 sore arms as I had the pneumonia jab at the same time as I'm immune-compromised.
But by the next day that was fine too.

SauvignonBlanche · 21/12/2019 13:54

Me -no side effects whatsoever.

If you’re feeling poorly only the day after the jab you were most likely already coming down with it.
