Do you, or anyone you know go to the gym on Christmas Day?

I’ve just noticed our gym is open until 1400 Christmas Day. I really can’t image who would go! Maybe those who don’t celebrate Christmas, but this gym is in an area which has little ethnic diversity, to the point that I don’t actually know anyone who doesn’t celebrate it. Maybe childless couples or single people, people with an exercise addiction? Or maybe people who get new trainers or plan to work off the calories they intend to consume.
I just can’t see enough people going to make it profitable.

I don’t think someone that might pop to the gym for an hour or so of peace before going back to the bedlam that may await them at home is necessarily suffering from “exercise addiction”. It’s hardly any time out of their day, they can still be with family/friends for the rest of the time. For a lot of people exercise can act as a bit of meditation and calm; so can see how a gym visit would be attractive.

(And I say this as a fat unfit person who hasn’t stepped foot in a gym in years and will be spending my Christmas face down in the Celebrations tub!)

No but I go for a run. Both for the physical and mental rewards. A lovely 10k all to myself (apart from the other runners I’ll see and will exchange a knowing 😉 with).

Not everyone has a family xmas or due to shifts might have it on another day.

It might be someone who has a race or competition coming up.
As in body building or something. I know them types at my gym go a few times per day every day. And maybe they have work on other days or something.

But I know it would be the last thing I could be arsed to do

I'll exercise on Christmas Day morning. Allows me to overindulge in the afternoon and then have Boxing Day off. I will wear a Santa hat throughout!

I never said everyone who went to the gym on Christmas Day had an exercise addiction, I just offered it as one possible reason. (Having suffered from an Ed I know that this is a reality for some).
Somehow to me, going for a run doesn’t seem such a big deal, don’t know why though.

I don't know a single person who does exercise on Xmas day. I've never seen a jogger pass my house either and I'm on a main road.
My gym instructor did mention a few weeks ago that she used to open up a gym on Xmas day and a fair few single people went.

I think it’s a good idea to give people the option. Even more annoying is our local gym closed on New Years Day, that would be a great day to be able to get out & go for a swim (& yes, I myself work unsociable hours in retail so know what it’s like to work on BHs).

I would actually consider someone who goes to the gym on Christmas Day to be addicted. Everyone can have one day off surely?

I don't belong to a gym, but I'll probably go for a quick run with DH, just to get a bit of movement into a day that will otherwise be quite sedentary!

No, my gym is closed. But I will be at Parkrun. And if the gym was open and my kids were older I might well treat myself to an hour or so there on Christmas Day. Why not?

Why ‘addicted’? surely a bit of exercise is good, considering most people eat and drink a lot on Christmas Day and unless you make an effort to go for a walk, the day can be very lazy.

When i competed i would have been in gym boxing day. Though not christmas day. The last comp prep i did christmas day didnt fall on my chest day so i had turkey and broccoli and sprouts for my dinner. Had the full works on boxing day instead.

To those saying "everyone can have one day off", if exercise is something you truly enjoy and it is an important part of your self care routine, why not go on Christmas day?

Why not not everybody is wrapped up (gettit) in Christmas they maybe live on their own or don't have young children or as you said don't celebrate Christmas so why not go to the gym if it's open.

I'm planning on going. I'm a SAHM who is doing a fitness regime to get my cardio fitness back after a long illness which left me deconditioned. DS is now on holiday from preschool so I'm going on Christmas Day as DH is off to look after him. I'm not an addict by any means, but it's as important as medication according to my cardiologist so I'm fitting it in when I can during a busy time of year. I'll go before DS wakes up so I'm not missing out on family time, or I'll go in his nap time.
