Serious jockin' (no g)

Spartak · 20/12/2019 16:57

Finished work slightly early today, and had Steve Wright on Radio 2 for the drive home.

Is the Serious Jockin (no g) with DJ Silly Boy supposed to be entertaining? Am I missing something?

Almost an hour of "big shaaauuuuttttt owwwt" to Billy and Jane travelling to Tesco to do some serious shoppin' (no g), Tom and Mandy going to the gym, serious squashin' (no g).

In 10 minutes, the term jockin' was used 38 times. I don't get it. It was just bloody annoying - I've just replaced my car and haven't worked out how to programme the radio, and I like it on for the traffic reports otherwise I would have switched it off, but I'm slightly miffed that the licence payer is funding this crap.

I know, crap isn't it!

TheReluctantCountess · 20/12/2019 17:02

God is that still going. I stopped listening to it a couple of years ago because it was tedious then.

FatherRabulaConundrum · 20/12/2019 17:03

Steve Wright must know where some very, very scandalous BBC bodies are buried to be getting away with all this still.

MoaningMinniee · 20/12/2019 17:03

He's been doing it at 4.15 on a Friday for a good couple of years now. It is meant to be funny... But the 'serious whateverin' puns stopped being entertaining many many months ago, and the dance music genre is dire. I change channel or put a CD on! Suggest you spend ten minutes working out the instruction manual rather than subjecting yourself to 45 minutes of weekly misery. It also means you can get rid of Jeremy Vine whenever he gets particularly annoying!

AnduinsGirl · 20/12/2019 17:03

Yeah it's beyond cringe!

FatherRabulaConundrum · 20/12/2019 17:03

Sorry, gettin' away with it, no g.

Fucck · 20/12/2019 17:04

Radio 2 is absolutely pish. SW is annoying as fuck and don't even get me started on Jeremy Fucking Vine (We had to listen to it at work, I was not in charge of the station)

teenagetantrums · 20/12/2019 17:04

I absolutely hate it. Don't get it at all. I can just about tolerate Steve wright but hate this stupidly.

billysboy · 20/12/2019 17:05

cant believe we through our licence fee pay him and his sycophant s nearly £500k pa

Whyisitsodifficult · 20/12/2019 17:07

God it’s so irritating surely no one finds it amusing!! Also chuck Ken Bruce into the mix of equally annoying presenters.

PlasticPatty · 20/12/2019 17:09

I don't know what the words mean, I don't listen to the radio. Gave it up in 2014. Felt better ever since.

bigburdd · 20/12/2019 17:11

My DH hates it, you're not alone!

Spartak · 20/12/2019 17:11

£500k for that crap? I'm in the wrong job.

Glad it's not just me. I was wondering if there was some hidden meaning that my little brain was missing!

NameChangeNugget · 20/12/2019 17:13

Utter drivel

AlunWynsKnee · 20/12/2019 17:17

He was annoying in 1983 and it's hard to believe the BBC have paid him all these years. I have successfully avoided him for decades.

peachgreen · 20/12/2019 17:19

I don't mind Steve Wright but can understand why others aren't a fan. But I won't hear a word against the angel that is Ken Bruce!

TreacherousPissFlap · 20/12/2019 17:19

As a PP has said, SW has to know something that's meant he's kept his job this long.
DH and I used to engage in radio wars (he 2, me 4) Even he has conceded that (at times) I may be right

notacooldad · 20/12/2019 17:20

This is why I have podcasts on in the car during the afternoon!

theyarereallytakingthepissnow · 20/12/2019 17:21

Cannot hit the off button fast enough. Who the hell thinks that's amusing ?

PoultryBallot · 20/12/2019 17:22

I think he is funny and we (whole family) love serious jockin, we do everything on a Friday with no G.
Ken Bruce should be on a pedestal.

Willieekerslike · 20/12/2019 17:26

I’m so glad someone else has said this. He is absolutely awful and I can’t believe he’s got away/still getting away with this lowest common denominator shite decades later. He is surrounded by sycophantic idiots as well, that stupid Tim and silly Janey woman. It’s so not funny. He’s really boring. Really sucks up to guests in a cringey way. And all that phone in crap “hi Steve loving the big show” please give a shout out to my wife who’s currently at work.......” The stupid theme tune. Switch over to Shaun Keaveny on 6 music and save your sanity.

Nannewnannew · 20/12/2019 17:30

I used to love Radio 2 but now find it hard to listen to any of it for more than 10 minutes. I agree SW is irritating beyond words, closely followed by Zoe Ball, her show is torture in the mornings with her fast talking and gasping for breath, everyone is lovely and beautiful( according to her!) and she ALWAYS talks over people, sooo annoying.

Biscusting · 20/12/2019 17:35

I think it’s funny in a silly ironic sense.

Maybe spend less time counting how many times words are said, and spend two seconds figuring out how to program your radio 🤷🏼‍♀️

BrownSauceOfCourse · 20/12/2019 17:35

I agree OP - I used to hear it and think that I'd missed some terribly witty in-joke from years back, and that it would all become clear eventually (a bit like Mornington Crescent.)

Imagine my surprise after a while to find out it's basically people saying they are doing things, but missing the 'g' from the end of the verb. I was listening this evening whilst stuck in traffic (my car has a particularly shit radio so retunes to the nearest thing every time it drizzles), and I couldn't believe people would bother to send in a message about 'wallpaperin', 'no g'.

Also, if you have to say "no g" at the end, then .... just why?

franklymydearidontgivea · 20/12/2019 17:36

I turn to local radio when he comes on, I have no idea how he still has a show, he is not interesting or entertaining at all......but when has the BBC ever been accountable for its presenters, you can add Vanessa Feltz to the lost of annoyingly overpaid non talented presenters.
