Anyone else feel lost when they finish whatever show they're binge watching?

Been thoroughly enjoying rewatching ER on all4, final season drops tomorrow and based on last week I'll have watched it all by Monday.

I've even gone back to the beginning to watch again and am back up to season 7 for 2nd time but feeling the familiar restlessness that I do when coming to the end of a "binge".

I struggle to find things I like to watch, been watching a bit of madam secretary too but not finding it as compelling.

Tried supernatural too but not finding that as entertaining as I thought I would (in theory should be right up my street as a horror and charmed fan)

I end up often going back and rewatching for like the millionth time old favourites (charmed, friends, lie to me, white collar...)

I like "drama" but nothing too intense or upsetting, some humour but not necessarily comedies.

I'm getting off topic...

Am I the only one who's stomach sinks when they know they have to track down something else worth watching?

"Normal" tv I find pretty dull these days, mostly repeats and "scripted reality" crap or poor quality documentaries...

Can't remember the last time there was something on normal tv in terms of properly scripted pieces I really enjoyed - bodyguard maybe?

Periodically I'll check the TV guide to see what's on and it's all shite!

I have Netflix and prime video plus of course the catch up services but it's older stuff i tend to watch on those.

What is this weirdness?

It's not weird, it's normal. Or maybe I'm weird too Grin

I get so invested in TV shows I really miss them when they finish, ditto books I've got really into. Sometimes I'll finish a book, or a series, and feel totally bereft because that's the end and I really want more but it doesn't exist.

I've just started watching Bodyguard and am starting to get hooked. It's been on my planner since it was first aired & I've been saving it. I watched Madam Secretary for a couple of seasons, but I didn't really gel with it so I was happy enough to let that one go.

JessicaPeach · 20/12/2019 01:05

I get like this too. I know a box set is really doing it for me when I find myself wondering what they are up to when I'm not watching Blush

Idontkowmyname · 20/12/2019 01:06

Perfectly understandable to feel lost if a large proportion of your down time has been immersed in a particular series. If you liked ER, The Good Doctor and New Amsterdam are worth a look.

Yes

And the other thing is, the next thing has to be a "palette cleanser" so COMPLETELY different vibe from the last thing, can't get going if it's similar.

I'm single so I binge a lot. Got loads of recommendations for different things.

What are you looking for ?

GlitchStitch · 20/12/2019 01:12

Yep. I've just binged Prison Break and was completely obsessed with it, then went on to Mindhunter and became even more obsessed with that but there are only 2 seasons so I'm bereft and can't find anything else that I can get into. I need something new to watch!

AutumnRose1 · 20/12/2019 01:12

Completely normal in my view!

Do you like legal drama? The Good Wife was great but not the last season.

Elementary is great, became ridiculously attached to Watson.

I’m going to assume you’ve seen Grey’s Anatomy...

AutumnRose1 · 20/12/2019 01:13

Ooh I nearly forgot - The Haunting of Hill House, only ten episodes bit superb.

Skidzer · 20/12/2019 01:16

GlitchStitch. I've watched Prison break over and over. Even though I know what's going to happen.......

Will try Mindhunter

VanyaHargreeves · 20/12/2019 01:25

End Of The Fucking World

Buyitinbamboo · 20/12/2019 01:27

Yes I even feel like this when I'm not fussed on the programme. Binge watched bad education this week whilst feeding the baby, thought it was pretty crap, still felt sad when it ended

DramaAlpaca · 20/12/2019 01:29

Oh yes, I got totally hooked on Prison Break.

I liked the first few seasons of Elementary then got bored, ditto Greys Anatomy. House was amazing, I've seen all those. The Good Doctor is in a similar style but not a patch on House.

Graphista · 20/12/2019 01:29

Yes I’m the same with books too and yes the characters have whole rounded lives in my head!

New Amsterdam I’ve already watched and enjoyed well enough but not as good as ER. The good dr I’ve not heard of what’s that on?

“And the other thing is, the next thing has to be a "palette cleanser" so COMPLETELY different vibe from the last thing, can't get going if it's similar.” Yes!

Greys anatomy also on my list but it’s also medical so I don’t really want to watch that straight after er.

Just as after binging the good wife and the good fight (sequels don’t count) I didn’t wanna watch another legal drama.

I’m single, unemployed (disabled) and housebound so this is pretty much all I do - tv and mn!

Elementary is on my list I saw a few episodes of that when years ago I did a prime video trial and liked it but at the time I ended up cancelling the membership as it didn’t have a good library then and I didn’t think it worth the money.

Anyone struggle with stuff they “should” like but then struggle to get into?

I’m finding that a bit with madam secretary, I SHOULD like Bosch And have tried it a few times but...

So glad it's not just me by the way - but what's the cure?

(Copywriting this Grin) I'm wondering about setting up a site/app where you put in what you're bingeing and it recommends what you could watch next (yes I know the streaming services kinda do this especially Netflix but they don't seem to get it right!)

House IS fantastic but I've watched it loads!

VanyaHargreeves · 20/12/2019 01:33

Oh and OP Parks and Recreation on Prime is a must see.

Slightly slow start but I ended up loving it so much.

20 min episodes, funny and heartwarming

Bosch is definitely a certain mood

The older desk clerk from ER, the grumpy guy is in it though!

Graphista · 20/12/2019 01:33

Anyone watched Goliath?

OP posts:
Graphista · 20/12/2019 01:35

The older desk clerk from ER, the grumpy guy is in it though!

Frank?

Parks & Rec not for me at all, I'm REALLY fussy on comedy!

Friends, catastrophe, the good place, no offence all good but I rarely find a comedy I like

I started a thread on Virgin River, 50 posts in, general consensus is :

Complete rubbish, in the most watchable way Grin

Idontkowmyname · 20/12/2019 01:37

Hi op,

The series is based on a Korean show which has been adapted for an English market. I’ve actually watched some of the episodes in Korean on you tube and on the whole it follows the original series well.
The series is available on amazon prime. Here is the blurb from the website
“Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, relocates from a quiet country life to join a prestigious hospital’s surgical unit. Alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, Shaun uses his extraordinary medical gifts to save lives and challenge the skepticism of his colleagues”.

VanyaHargreeves · 20/12/2019 01:37

Yes Frank!

That's the thing I also feel ambivalent to comedy. Think I lack a funny bone. Cant stand the Ricky Gervais ones for example. Loved P + R. Same writing team as Good Place

Graphista · 20/12/2019 01:39

Yea I'm not really one for almost pure saccharine romance either - it's what puts me off outlander

That said I just came back to say i ADORE Bones and have watched that more times than I care to admit (or even know!) with certain romantic episodes being my favourites (trying not to spoiler)

@Idontkowmyname that sounds good - what's it on?

I've also had on here and in real life people recommend me subtitled shows, but unfortunately my eyesight is pretty poor so I struggle with these, especially if it's fast moving and I don't get time to read!

AutumnRose1 · 20/12/2019 01:43

True Detective

The Affair

Heard Watchmen is very good.

Idontkowmyname · 20/12/2019 01:43

@Graphista the good doctor is available to buy on amazon prime, think it’s about 5 pounds for season 1.

AutumnRose1 · 20/12/2019 01:44

Body of Proof also good.

Going to assume you’ve seen the West Wing.

VanyaHargreeves · 20/12/2019 01:45

Watchmen is great but a very specific taste

I recommended Dark which is subtitled but it is available with English dubbing

Good Doctor is Sky, as is Watchmen
