I have a Hotpoint washing machine but the model number is not on the front and it is virtually impossible to pull it out to see if it is on the back as so heavy and in the corner of a galley kitchen. It's an 8kg one and yes, rented. Might call the rental co tomorrow.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 17/12/2019 19:56

I have gone into panic mode. I have checked but now doubting myself.
The top number is the number I am looking for isn't it? If thats the case I think I am ok.

@pilatespeach open the door and the sticker with the serial number might be there, mine was.

I've read that they are saying to unplug them but also that if you are desperate to use it do a cold was of about 20 degrees

MunchMunch · 17/12/2019 19:58

**Cold wash

MunchMunch · 17/12/2019 19:59

Yours isn't on the list @Idroppedthescrewinthetuna

PilatesPeach · 17/12/2019 20:06

yes I saw about the 20 degrees - nothing gets properly clean at that temperature especially sweaty gym kit (I'm a fitness instructor) thanks I found the label inside and yes mine is one of them

BrendasUmbrella · 17/12/2019 20:09

Ours is on the list. Funnily enough I'd stopped using it unless I was in the house at all times because it has behaved a bit erratically. It makes a loud noise almost every other wash. (Couple of months out of warranty.)

I'm hoping I can get a replacement because I don't know if the faulty part tallies with their faulty part (door mechanism?) and I don't really want this one any more. Not sure I even want a new one actually...

Span1elsRock · 17/12/2019 20:10

We had a nightmare with our dryer that was affected. They were quoting around 8 months to come out with the modification, so we took the offer of a brand new replacement for £99. Then that developed a fault and was condemned at less than 6 months old.

We gave up and got a Zanussi instead. I'd never buy a Whirlpool product again after such shockingly bad customer service.

PilatesPeach · 17/12/2019 20:32

I might actually phone the rental co tomorrow and tell them just to pick it up and put it in the garage until then and buy a Bosch from AO- according to their website I can have it this week.

Eatsshoootsandleaves · 17/12/2019 21:10

My model number is on the list, I can't cope with a month without a washing machine though. We live nowhere near a laundrette and we are a single car family where we both work full time. I also don't have the money to be able to do anything about a replacement quickly.
Really hoping I can get in touch with hotpoint tomorrow, thier website isnt currently working.

CeCeLaine66 · 17/12/2019 21:14

I thought this was a continuation of the tumble dryer recall but realised it’s now washing machines!!!

I’m still awaiting a repair on my dryer despite contacting them several times. Didn’t feel safe using it as it did smell of burning when I did use it. Gave up after a year with no dryer and bought another I’ve had the new one 2 years!!

I refuse point blank to buy anything under the whirlpool brand now

PerfectPeaches · 17/12/2019 21:21

Has anyone actually managed to check their serial number on the website? I can't get past that bit

HeIenaDove · 17/12/2019 21:36

I dont have any of these brands but i think their behaviour over this is fucking disgusting. What if someone who owns one of these needs to use a machine often because they have a disabled and/or incontinent older child/adult in the home.

And what if someone with flammable cladding on their home has one of these.

Whirlpool you ABSOLUTE FUCKERS.

LazyFace · 17/12/2019 21:44

I was totally hoping that the Indesit we have in the rental we're in will be on that list. It wasn't. It had already burnt holes in two items even though we've only been here for less than 2 months.
I have a feeling this list should be longer.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 17/12/2019 23:01

I've just been reading the wiki entry for Whirlpool's handling of the tumble dryer fires. In a properly run country the CEO would be arrested for negligent manslaughter.

LipstickTaserrr · 17/12/2019 23:09

My model is not on any printed list but the model and serial number checker on the website said it is affected by the recall.

Please don't go by any printed or screen shot versions as it may not be up to date. Hopefully the website will be working again by tomorrow.

My washing machine is on the list. Great.

Part of me is thinking carry on using it, not had any fault codes. It was on yesterday evening, and twice on Monday. Or should I just absolutely not?

Kazzyhoward · 18/12/2019 08:25

Sadly this is to be expected when consumers want everything on the cheap. Manufacturers end up cutting corners just so that they can produce an item that can be competitively priced. There's a reason that the likes of Bosch etc are more expensive - they're made properly and last a lot longer. Things like washing machines shouldn't be a disposable that lasts just a few years. My Mother had her first washing machine (a Bendix washer/dryer) for 30 years, when it finally packed in, she replaced it with a cheap one that lasted only 5 years.

stripeypillowcase · 18/12/2019 08:27

my mother still has her miele that was a wedding present 50 years ago.

OP posts:
stripeypillowcase · 18/12/2019 08:29

but this shouldn't be expected.

I might not expect a cheap washing machine to last 10+ years, but I certainly expect it to be safe
