I found this beauty. A combination of gorgeous original features with a few modern touches. Light and airy. Beautiful grounds. Close to motorway networks to Glasgow/Edinburgh/Stirling. Eight bedrooms probably too much for me but I guess I could have some more children... Hmm.

See, i look at all of those converted barns with their mezzanines and just think "but the heating bill". I visited some friends who live in one and shivered all night, despite underfloor heating and a raging log fire

KiwiGremlin · 15/12/2019 08:33

@TooMuch87 I drive past that house regularly! Can't see it from the road mind...
You'd have Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster for next door neighbours 🤫

KiwiGremlin · 15/12/2019 08:44

@Lexplorer I think looking at the arrivals and departure maps Stansted public (because I am a nerd at heart...) they might get off quite lucky and fall outside of any of the main routes used - you must still hear some
Though being that close!

VenusClapTrap · 15/12/2019 09:31

It’ll only buy you 3 beds round here. Cute ones though.

So far my favourite is that mini castle outside Barnsley.

massistar · 15/12/2019 09:38

This one.. sigh. It's my dream house. Within 0.5 miles !!

This is erm... “interesting”
Unfortunately right by the airport in the flight path.

KittenVsXmastree · 15/12/2019 09:42

There are only 3 between 900k and 1M within 5 miles of us.
I dont fancy any of them. One gas agricultural o occupancy restrictions on it, one includes i's own pub, and the final one has amazing views, but is a mass of glass sliding doors and no privacy.

ooooohbetty · 15/12/2019 09:45

So many with beams, I hate them. Also the prices for pokey flats in London is terrible. Look at this. Not a million but look at it. Andy Carroll's football mansion.

High Road, Chigwell, Essex, IG7

VenusClapTrap · 15/12/2019 09:50

Oops I had the wrong filter on. Expanding out to 5 miles gives more options, like this one:

fishonabicycle · 15/12/2019 09:52

That's it really. It's blinking expensive here.

VenusClapTrap · 15/12/2019 09:54

That Essex footballer’s one is horrific.

AmmoniaAvenue · 15/12/2019 09:54

This would be my first choice, for a mere £795k

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-82442807.html

Or if you fancy a doer-upper with its own stream, this could be yours for £900K

Love that Norland one, Ammonia. Straight out of Wuthering Heights.

AmmoniaAvenue · 15/12/2019 10:04

If the Brontes, are your thing, Venus, you might like this one

The decor is a bit dated but it's only £800k so if your budget is £1 million you'd have some left for new carpets!

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 15/12/2019 10:07

There's nowhere within 5 miles of me that costs £1m!

GoldenKelpie · 15/12/2019 10:15

That first one, Flapjack, is actually two properties together. But, the mullioned windows would have to go!

That second one, oooh!

GoldenKelpie · 15/12/2019 10:20

NeverTwerked, that is one beautiful house and I love the kitchen/living area; its just as I would arrange it. That playroom is awesome too.

Sickofpineneedles · 15/12/2019 10:21

Like that one massistar.

This is near me it's on an estate that was an American air base so half the facilities haven't been finished yet.
I found this www.rightmove.co.uk/s6p/44179335

VenusClapTrap · 15/12/2019 10:23

Oh yes Ammonia that one is seriously gorgeous!

I grew up in Bronte country so those type of houses remind me of home. I live a long, long way from there now. I miss the moors.

GoldenKelpie · 15/12/2019 10:24

Hmm yes, Pick, it is very...brown. However it has stables and that would be a big plus if you had horses (brown ones, of course Wink.
