I found this beauty. A combination of gorgeous original features with a few modern touches. Light and airy. Beautiful grounds. Close to motorway networks to Glasgow/Edinburgh/Stirling. Eight bedrooms probably too much for me but I guess I could have some more children... .

this seems beautiful but unfortunately it sits in a triangle of land between a fast road, a railway and a rather large housing estate.

Lolomax, I am not sure about the quality of some of the photos, they don't seem to be professionally done, which is a pity. Not sure about a brown bathroom either .

Looked up the most expensive within 5 miles of us - my mind is blown that £15million mansions get put on right move - surely they have some secret exclusive way of selling beyond the websites used by us mortals! Looks like the royal family should be living there (for context we are in a 2 bed terraced on a cul-de-sac)

Pascha, I doesn't mention being listed but looks ancient. The panelling is stunning. None of the photos or description mentions the downsides you've mentioned. I wonder whether people going to view it will be disappointed.

Kiwi, you would need a whole raft of staff to look after that property, for sure. A cleaner a couple of hours a week wouldn't cut it .

In a conservation area, close to the river Hamble and the coast, but 15 mins from rail links to London.

It doesn't have enough bedrooms for us though, I usually set our searches with a minimum of 5 beds! Too many children, one will have to go

People in London, are you not tempted to move out for bigger houses for your money? Not a judgy question, just curious? I can't imagine knowing that my small house could get a vast place somewhere else and never being tempted

Meshy, it just shows how much more you get for your money the further away from London you travel. The first two are deceptively large with cellars. The third one is lovely.

Nothing that makes my heart sing, right down to 700k. Either terrifyingly dated or blanded to fuckery. I just picked something from the top end at random and it may just be the brownest house I've ever seen.
