As we're doing regional words.

A Male swan or a bread roll or a horse

ofwarren · 15/12/2019 00:48

A horse. I live in Cheshire

-A horse

roiseandjim · 15/12/2019 01:04

I'd assume corn on the cob- South Wales 🤷🏽‍♀️

ithinkmycatistryingtokillme · 15/12/2019 01:09

bap or barm cake was a soft bread roll, a cob was a crusty roll or round loaf

MitziK · 15/12/2019 01:12

A sturdy horse, great for wandering over moorland. Sweetcorn. Native hazel nuts.

Or when somebody's really pissed off, they've got one on.

Southwest.

MitziK · 15/12/2019 01:12

And a male swan.

Clevererthanyou · 15/12/2019 01:14

It’s a bread roll (it’s getting a little bit cancel the cheque on this thread now lol) but even as a proud Welsh valleys person I am partial to the word barm and use it instead Xmas Grin I feel bad for the cultural appropriation though x

HoHoHoik · 15/12/2019 01:44

Cob is not a bun, it's a round loaf of bread (Northumberland)

HoHoHoik · 15/12/2019 01:45

It's also a horse, lots of horsey types here so we see a fair few out and about.

notsodimwit · 15/12/2019 04:58

One of those horrible things you eat, yellow and look like teeth! Xmas Grin

notsodimwit · 15/12/2019 04:59

Ah! It's corn on the cob! Xmas Blush

Bluesheep8 · 15/12/2019 07:50

A sturdy horse, a bread roll in Nottinghamshire, a bad mood, or an ear of corn as in corn on the cob.

Bluesheep8 · 15/12/2019 07:50

Oh and cob nuts

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/12/2019 07:52

It is what we call a bread roll here in the east Midlands.

4theanimals · 15/12/2019 08:16

A bread roll. I'm Midlands. I went to Dorset and asked for a chip cob. No one knew what I was on about.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 15/12/2019 08:18

A sulk

welliesarefuntowear · 15/12/2019 08:33

@4theanimals love this, what is a chip cob in Dorset?

I live just in the Derbyshire Dales and no one says cob round here, my kids grew up here and go to school in Ashbourne and would not use so. and yet Derby is 10 miles up the road, Burton on Trent is 12 miles. It's all about cob there which is a bread roll and many sandwich shops in the area are called cob shops. Is Suzy Dent on Mumsnet? We need her origin of words wisdom here.

TheReef · 15/12/2019 09:33

Horse

Brigante9 · 15/12/2019 09:35

@safariboot I never knew it was a type of horse, but then I'm not rural or posh so I've never had anything to do with horses

That has to be one of the stupidest, most stereotypically ridiculous things I’ve ever read on here. I don’t live rurally, the horse is kept on a yard some miles away. I’m not even vaguely posh. The very idea is laughable.

Blingismything · 15/12/2019 09:44

(A corn on the) cob

Boxerbinky · 15/12/2019 09:46

Bad mood / crusty barm

Ivebeentohellanditscalledikea · 15/12/2019 09:48

Sweet corn or a horse. I've never heard of a bread roll being called it.

Boxerbinky · 15/12/2019 09:48

Also a round crusty loaf - but you had to say cob loaf or you'd get a bag of little cubs in the bakery I worked in at age 15 Grin

To be fair I don’t think it’s laughable. I am not rural and have literally never met anyone who rides. The odd time someone has had a riding lesson it’s a bit of a one off to try out and never follow up. Horse riding just not on the radar of the people I come across and yes, knowing nothing about riding I would also assume it’s an expensive hobby which people either couldn’t afford or wouldn’t be interested in affording because they assume it’s expensive
