The Ludlow

TickleMyPickle · 08/12/2019 11:21

I’m here now and staying in The New Yorker Wyndham, don’t stay here, it’s a shit holeGrin

Wigglewagglee · 08/12/2019 18:31

The metro

We went booked it with virgin airways as a package.
It was having a refurb when myself and my daughter was there last feb. But it's a lovely hotel.

Trip advisor reviews are great and NO tourist tax (at least not when we stayed)

It was 1 block north of the empire state, round the corner from times Square, subway and Macy's within a few meters

I've just looked it up and it's changed it name to
Hotel kixby

The Ludlow is amazing

ProseccoSupernova · 08/12/2019 19:02

The peninsula 💗 we got an amazing deal on hotwire

ivykaty44 · 08/12/2019 19:22

We’ve just come back, stayed at the courtyard by Marriott at the World Trade Center - it’s a bit further out but we spent a day doing the museum, the free statin island ferry. There were some nice places to eat nearby

I like Marriott, you know what your going to get. There are others spread about Manhattan, I picked this one as it was quieter

We got the sky train to Jamaica and then purchased a week subway ticket which was $66 for the week for two and the air train was $7:75 each

I would also highly recommend using whole foods for coffee and muffins/bagels etc and hot food. There is no tip, food food (think upmarket Waitrose) and you can go upstairs and eat but no tip required. It’s great for breakfast/brunch. Especially if you want to get food and go and sit in central park

I love the Beekman downtown- it's boutiquey but well soundproofed so you don't get street noise. The interior design is phenomenal.

I've also stayed at the Millennium Hilton which, if you're on a high floor, has some brilliant views of WTC. I don't like Hiltons though.

I had a bad experience at the Royalton in Midtown- a ton of street noise and loud elevators.

Avoid anything too generic, especially in Midtown. The Grand Hyatt is really convinient but the whole thing is filled with school parties.

We had a very disappointing stay in 50 Bowery, one to avoid!

grincheux · 08/12/2019 19:34

Le Parker Meridien was fantastic when I was there around Christmas in 2015!

AlwaysCheddar · 08/12/2019 19:34

Waldorf or 4 seasons

PrincessHoneysuckle · 08/12/2019 19:38

MrsRipper · 08/12/2019 19:40

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge

Fantastic views across Manhattan

Awesome rooftop bar and pool

ihearttc · 08/12/2019 19:41

The London Hotel

AuntieMarys · 08/12/2019 19:42

The Library... cheese and wine every evening! And perfect location near Bryant Park

KellyHall · 08/12/2019 19:44

The Roosevelt

I stayed for my 30th which also included Christmas and had an awesome time. It's close enough to everything to see a lot (Rockerfeller, Central Park, Time Square, Madison Square Garden, Grand Central Terminal) with minimal effort and still slightly removed enough to be able to get a good sleep!

jcurve · 08/12/2019 19:44

Best hotels I’ve stayed in:
The Refinery (definite favourite)
The Edition

Both very cool.

Stay away from W Times Square, it’s utterly awful.

jcurve · 08/12/2019 19:47

Also, from time to time BA Holidays does really good deals on hotel/flight packages - worth keeping an eye on.

lunasunshine · 08/12/2019 19:56

We stayed at The Casablanca for our honeymoon and we absolutely loved it! It’s a smaller, boutique hotel and great location Smile

MozzchopsThirty · 08/12/2019 20:04

We stayed at the Watson
Don't bother

HotSince82 · 08/12/2019 20:19

Thank you all, also I hope you're still enjoying NYC TickleMyPickle

We loved the New Yorker! Right opposite Penn Station, lovely deco suite, really central location. Super consierge organised tickets etc for us too.

caperplips · 09/12/2019 13:12

We stayed in Le Parker Meridian and loved it - incredibly comfy beds, great breakfasts in Norma's - voted one of the top 10 breakfasts in NY and also has the amazing Burger Joint in the foyer (also voted in top burgers of NY) cool cocktails and great location.
We loved it.
I was a big gossip girl fan and always wanted to stay in The Palace Hotel from that series, but never have...i'm interested to see if anyone on here has?

caperplips · 09/12/2019 13:13

We also stayed in Le Parker Meridian at Christmas!

HairyFloppins · 09/12/2019 13:16

@MozzchopsThirty

What was wrong with The Watson if you don't mind me asking.

I have booked it for next August as it was cheap and it has an outside pool.

TreesRUs · 09/12/2019 13:16

The Standard East Village is really nice, quite trend. Not cheap mind!
