I’m voting Conservative because....
- They have a more credible economic plan. No, it isn’t perfect (very far from) but it’s significantly safer than the Labour offering.
- I don’t want another year of wrangling whilst Labour renegotiate a Brexit deal then hold yet another referendum.
- Linked to the above. I don’t want British politics to be held to ransom by Scottish nationalists and their agenda which will result in....wait for it....yet another referendum.
- I find the Conservatives are significantly stronger in a number of key areas. This isn’t because their pledges are more generous, it’s because their pledges are more measured and reasoned.
- I simply don’t believe that Labour can achieve what they are offering. I believe that they will try, and will wreck the country in the process. Free broadband was where they lost me completely. Unnecessary and symptomatic of the pie in the sky Labour approach to economic planning.
- Fanatics of any flavour frighten me and I really don’t like bullies. I’ve seen a lot of accusations that Tories are bullies etc but I’ve also seen first hand a lot of incredible vile, vitriolic and threatening behaviour from Labour supporters. The hypocrisy is pretty staggering. I’d rather have someone knowingly lying to further their own ambitions than I would have a fanatic refusing to acknowledge facts because they don’t fit with their world view. An ambitious liar is rational. A fanatical liar is not.
- I believe the Conservative party can temper their zealots significantly more easily than the Labour Party can.
- The evidence of anti-Semitism in the Labour Party is frightening. So is the refusal of so many supporters to acknowledge that there is a problem.
It’s incredibly telling that so many Conservative voters justify their vote with their fears about Corbyn, Momentum and the economic madness they are proposing. That tells me that so many of them, like me, aren’t voting for the Conservatives because they are strong supporters of the party. It tells me that, again like me, they feel they have no real choice because the alternative is madness. I’m not a dyed in the wool Tory, very far from it, I would love to vote for Labour. I would love to have a compassionate, reasonable middle ground option on the ballot paper. But that option simply isn’t there with the Labour Party as it currently is. I’ve researched my vote carefully, as it is important, and concluded that despite all the things that I acknowledge are wrong with Boris Johnson and his Conservatives, the alternative is far far worse. The refusal of so many to acknowledge the issues with Corbyn, McDonnell and Momentum speaks volumes. If it looks like a personality cult and sounds like a personality cult, then chances are, it’s a personality cult. Threads like this only confirm my opinion about the fanatics within the party. So, here is my plea: if you lose on Thursday (and I hope you do), have a really careful consideration about who your next leader should be and what direction your party should be moving in. I’d love to vote for you next time, I really don’t want the Tories to be my only option (because I don’t like them very much), so please ditch the fanatics, bullies and hypocrites. Please pick a reasonable, sensible and competent leader and come up with some half believable policies. Then you’ve got my vote back.
