I know bmi wise it’s right at the top bmi 24.9

I don’t think it’s possible to categorise it that way and it more needs to be about being healthy, what weight is made up of and your frame. Me and my best friend are the same height and the same dress size yet she’s a stone heavier than me so I don’t find weight an easy thing to focus on. I’ve also weighed more when I’ve been more toned as the muscle weighed more than fat.

Shmithecat2 · 05/12/2019 06:34

The BMI is a rough guide IMO, nothing more. I'm currently at the heavier end of my 'healthy' BMI weight - I'm 6'2 and 83kg (currently on a diet). The lighter end of 'healthy' for me is 65.4kg 😮. I would look spectacularly skeletal if I was that weight.

TipseyTorvey · 05/12/2019 06:36

I think it depends on your frame. I'm 5ft 4 and that's heavy for me. I yo-yo but that's the top I get to before I have to have a word and do something. 10st is okay but 9st 7 is optimum. Not skinny but just the right size for me.

gamerwidow · 05/12/2019 06:38

Too heavy for what? Are you healthy, can you physically do all the things you want to do? Are you putting your self at risk from obesity related illnesses?

Fredy45 · 05/12/2019 06:39

Too heavy for what?

For health? Probably not if you are otherwise fit and active. How big is your waist? That is a good measure for health purposes (should be less than 31.5 inches I believe).

For looks? Depends on your build and if you are toned or not. Some people will complain of having rolls of fat, some will be compact and proportionate.

I am an inch shorter and suit that weight although it makes me technically overweight. I can sustain it without making myself miserable which is important in my eyes. I have an hourglass figure though so carry weight on thighs and arse and my waist at that weight is about 27 inches. I am also a big build for my height.

Some will come on and say you are a huge heifer btw. You are not. You aren't skinny either mind but thin doesn't equal morally better.

TooMuch87 · 05/12/2019 06:43

It depends on the individual and their body type. Some people will look their best at the lower end of the normal BMI range, some at the middle and some at the upper end. I have the same BMI (but taller and heavier) and I have a lot of excess fat. I need to lose a stone or two before I start looking slim again.

LeaderoftheAteam · 05/12/2019 06:44

It's too heavy for me, I suppose it depends on how your weight is distributed. I am a pear shape so carry most of it on the bottom but I still know its too heavy for me. Ideal is 9st 7 for me to feel okay.

Neome · 05/12/2019 06:45

No, I would say you are morally and intellectually superior to me.

StrayWoman · 05/12/2019 06:45

I'm 5.4 and feel very uncomfortable at that weight. I'm quite stocky built and I feel like my thighs rub and my size 12-14s are very tight.

I'm 9.6 at the moment and feel ok, but feel best at about 9.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 05/12/2019 06:52

You need to have a look at My Body Gallery.com. Absolutely fascinating.

nrpmum · 05/12/2019 06:53

I'm 5'6" and 11st 7. I'm a 10/12 and I look and feel much better at that weight than the 9st I was 2 years ago as I looked very gaunt then.

I do run though, and am usually very careful what I eat although that's gone out the window this week

DreamingofSunshine · 05/12/2019 06:59

I'm 5ft 5, 10st 12 and I do look overweight at this weight- I store weight on my tummy and it's quite prominent at the moment. I have a very small build so for me I look better at a lower BMI.

BMI is a range, and I see it as a useful general guide. My Doctors agree that I'm personally healthier at a lower weight but that doesn't mean that another person at the same weight and height is.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/12/2019 07:01

No.

I'm 5'4 and 11 stone 7. I'm slightly overweight and would like to lose a stone. Ten and a half sounds fine.

Sssneks · 05/12/2019 07:03

I think it all depends on your fat distribution, how much of the weight is muscle and what your general fitness is like.

LolaSmiles · 05/12/2019 07:05

BMI is a useful benchmark but doesn't take into account all factors (though some take this as a opportunity to claim it's a load on nonsense because they know someone unhealthy with a BMI of 18 / if you bulk out muscle building it can be inaccurate)

For example a BMI of 24 is going to be upper healthy on somone who is fit and healthy, with a larger frame. It would look overweight on someone with a smaller frame and if the person is carrying more fat than muscle.

kjhkj · 05/12/2019 07:11

Yes. Sorry but we normalise excess weight in a misguided attempt to be kind.

MidnightCircus · 05/12/2019 07:17

No, I don't think so. I'm 5 foot 5, and about that weight now (not sure, not weighed myself in a while). Still fit in size 10 clothes so not too bothered! I'm a bit too large (untoned) for my liking, but I'm aware I was always well underweight when I was younger so my perception is warped. It's nice not getting moaned at when I go the doctors though

Rachel438 · 05/12/2019 07:17

Sorry, but yes, that is overweight.

oohnicevase · 05/12/2019 07:20

I'm the same height and a bit heavier but hourglass and although I'd prefer to be my previous child weight I think I look better than a lot of people who are slimmer due to my shape . If you have good clothes that fit well I think you can look great at most weights ...
People are different though and I'm a safe size 10 at 10.7stone

foxcote90 · 05/12/2019 07:25

@Lardlizard not at all. I'm 72kg (11.3 stone) and 5.5ft and a bit and have been to the doctors many a time and they say I'm fine weight wise.

Of course it all depends on your bone structure, muscular weight etc but I wouldn't fret at all about it.

To be honest I only know my weight because the nurse weighed me when I went in for a check up - otherwise I stay off the scales and just go off look as weight itself is a very unhealthy thing to focus on. Just go off what you see in the mirror.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 05/12/2019 07:26

I'm 5"5 and for me, it was slightly too heavy. I wasn't obese but definitely too big for my frame. I'm now 8 and a half and it's too small for me (size 8-10). My face looks too thin, my chest area is slightly bony and my legs are a little too small. I'm better off around 9-9.5 and more of a solid size 10 (my face is a little rounder and the bones of my chest are less obvious). I'm trying to gain in back. My friend is same height as me and a size 6 yet it really suits her, whereas I would look ill. Depends on your build and body time.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/12/2019 07:27

Sorry, but yes, that is overweight

It is impossible to make that judgement with no information about the build, activity levels, waist size or body fat percentage of the individual.

If they're a fine build, flabby, poor muscle tone with excess fat around their middle, then yes they are overweight.

But if they have a large frame, small waist, lower body fat percentage and muscular, particular if toned and muscular bum/thighs, which can contribute a lot to weight, then they aren't.

BMI is only a guide, waist size and body fat percentage is a far better indication of health.

Wheresthesandman · 05/12/2019 07:29

I’m 5 foot 5 and when I was around 10 stone 4 I was a fairly easy size 10 and looked really good (I’m allowed to say this because I no longer weigh 10 st 4 Wink) so no, I don’t think so.

Obviously some of it is about frame and body type (I was still a DD so obviously some of the weight was there) so it’s not a definite answer but if you’re happy and your bmi is ok I don’t think it’s too big at all. I got told by my mum not to lose anymore weight because I was starting to look like a lollipop but she’s probably a bit biased...

lightnesspixie · 05/12/2019 07:31

No it's fine. Love yourself.

JellyfishAndShells · 05/12/2019 07:31

It sounds fine to me. I’m the same height and weigh less but I have a small frame and don’t carry it on my tummy at all, which is the danger area for health concerns. Your own frame and how you carry it will be unique to you and you can’t spot lose weight ie if you aim to lose weight because you feel you have heavy thighs, it will come off everywhere else as well so the imbalance will still be the same. If it is about looks rather than health, gaunt is rarely attractive in real life, especially as you get older
