Who buys individual Christmas cards?

I thought most people bought Christmas cards in packs if they're bothering to do cards. Who buys individual ones from card shops? They're not all 'to a lovely sister this Christmas' etc. And they take up half the card shops' displays!

My brother did send a few individual ones to each of my family this year but he's a bit odd Grin

I still haven't heard of any one sending Happy Easter cards either but they still appear that time of year in the shops.

Its shit when you're trying to buy birthday cards at this time of year as all the Christmas cards take over

My grandma. She can't send you a card unless she specifically references her relation to you. Bonus points it it also has your age Grin. Best was "To my granddaughter and her partner at Christmas"

To family members? I do! My kids make theirs too. Do you send a box of the same cards to individual family members? Is this only at Christmas or do you bulk buy birthday cards too and send the same one to all members of the family each year?

I use cards out of a packet to send to my mum, siblings, other members of the family, etc. I dont buy individual ones

dementedpixie that's exactly what prompted my OP! It's bloody annoying, hardly any nice kids' birthday cards where I was looking

My SIL. Last year we got no less than 5 Christmas cards from her household to ours Hmm one from a pack to all of us from all of them, one to dh and I from her and bil, one to dh and I from nephew to auntie and uncle, one to the dc from auntie and uncle and one from nephew to his cousins. It was utterly ridiculous.

We sell a shitload of them. Mostly older ladies and in a couple of weeks husbands / partners.

I send one card per household and usually have several different designs from a couple of packs on the go.

Guilty. I even do one for husband and daughter. I know it’s a bit twattish but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside too.

DH's family do the named family member ones. I've never seen one that wasnt tacky as fuck. But then it wasn't till I met him I realised people do cards for immediate family. To me they are for sending greetings to people you aren't seeing over Christmas and I find it really weird sitting there with his parents and sister opening cards to and from each other.

So maybe OP it's for people who do give them to people they are seeing on the day bit find the names relative ones too twee.

My MIL. She is the sole reason that Hallmark is still in business. If they did a "Merry Christmas to our neighbours next door but one" "Merry Christmas to the person behind the counter in Costa Coffee" etc etc she'd be on it.

Harmless but pointless in my opinion especially as she claims to be quite hard up.

She also often sends more than one card for an occassion just for that added level of card pointlessness. Confused

I find Christmas cards specifically for your husband or wife really really weird.

I cannot imagine handing one over to my dh and vice versa...he'd think I'd lost my mind.

Why is it weird to write your spouse a card?! Shock I love a thoughtful message in my card to open first thing Christmas morning, my husband’s one and the handmade ones from the kids are my favourites.

Actually maybe this is really REALLY weird to some now I think about it but we all sit and give each other cards on our bed first thing in the morning before we go downstairs. We read them out to each other (help the kids with theirs) and it’s a lovely start to the day. It’s basically a message to each of us about how proud we are/ what positive things each of us has done his year/ how much we love each other. I love my cards!

My DH and I exchange cards on Christmas Eve as well as one gift to each other. We also share a bottle of champagne. We’ve always done as Christmas Day present opening is so much for the DC we really enjoy a bit of couples time.

Me too, slightly fancier box than for everyone else but all close family get the same. We don't do cards at home for Dh or kids, seems a bit odd when we're all in the same house. I don't put any up either, they sit in a pile to read through and then off they go to recycling.

I do. For my bloody sins. Cannot find a Great Nanny and Great Auntie & Uncle cards and it's driving me mad! 😫but I love doing it.

My DH does, to all his family and me.

Took me years to cooperate but I have finally conceded that he really likes it so I now buy him a husband one, none of the rest of my family though.

I bought his yesterday in fact, a handmade card from an artist's studio with a porcelain heart on it with 'to my lovely husband'. I think he will like it.
