You must be a great owner!

Over never had a cat but my colleague at work recently lost her cat to old age. She was 23!!
I was so amazed. I had thought they only lived to about 10!

TooMinty · 30/11/2019 21:47

Wow! Ours is 17 and he seems pretty elderly. Spends a lot of time sleeping in front of the fire...

Ohffs66 · 30/11/2019 21:48

My ex still has the cat we got as a kitten in 1999. He says she's lost one of her teeth but other than that she's still really sprightly!

21 is amazing! A friend had one who lived to 22 and her sister 18.

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 30/11/2019 21:50

I lost my 19 year old girl in April this year. We had owned her since she was 9 weeks old. Other cat we had at the same time was only 14.5 when she died Sad

Bumfuzzled · 30/11/2019 22:00

Wow I thought mine was old at 18. She doesn’t seem old though, she is still very sleek and active. She has developed a weird habit in recent years of sitting and sleeping on Lego. Wtf is that about?

DramaAlpaca · 30/11/2019 22:02

The oldest I've had was 19. My local vet's oldest cat patient is 23.

PhantomErik · 30/11/2019 22:03

My mums cat is 21!

My oldest is 16.5 so far & fingers crossed she's in good health.

SlothOfSluggishness · 30/11/2019 22:04

We need a picture!

NatureGal · 30/11/2019 22:06

Our cat is 18. Sleeps loads, weighs the same as she did 17 years ago, 4.1 kg. She still goes out but only for a walk in the front of back garden, still jumps the fence and gate although I wish she would stop as she gets a bit stiff, even bought us a mouse last week.

21 is an amazing age.

Polkadotdelight · 30/11/2019 22:06

Mine was put to sleep a few weeks before his 20th birthday. He'd been sitting under a neighbours car and they didn't know he was there. Had he been a youngster we would have gone for fracture surgery etc but it didn't seem fair. I do wonder how long he would have lived otherwise though.

WYP2018 · 30/11/2019 22:22

Wow! Mine is 19 but he’s blind now due to high blood pressure. He comes out the garden with me when it’s sunny but his hunting days are long gone

fussychica · 30/11/2019 22:23

We had brothers who made it to 17 and 18. Broke our hearts when we lost them.

weebarra · 30/11/2019 22:26

My mum's cat died a couple of months ago at 21. She had a couple of issues but was pretty healthy and just went in her sleep. She was run over when she was only 2 and badly hurt but obviously went on to live a long life!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/11/2019 22:28

My dd used to work at a cat rescue centre.
One of the cats there was 23. I don’t know wether he’s still alive or not

Thecatisboss · 30/11/2019 22:42

Dcat is18 and very happy to snuggle up to me on cold nights which isn't helping with my hot flushes. We got her when she 8 weeks old and she adores DD now, who arrived when she was 9 and Dcat wasn't keen on children but she made an exception for DD. She's got kidney failure but had that for 6 years and doing very well the vet says.

onedayallthiswillbeyours · 30/11/2019 22:53

Mine is 19. She was the runt of a rescue litter and the vet wasn't sure she would survive. She turned out to be the feistiest and most cantankerous cat I've ever met and has now outlived her sibling (who we also adopted) by many years. In her lifetime she has tamed not one but two highly prey-driven sighthounds, who became quivering and submissive wrecks in her presence. She is surely a force to be reckoned with and much loved and revered by all who know her. A few teeth missing now and very skinny despite a huge appetite, does not venture outside except on very warm days to lie in the sun and spends most of her time asleep by the fire. But she remains just as feisty and cantankerous as ever!

Twixes · 30/11/2019 23:04

Yay! Go you. Coincidentally I just started a cat thread v dogs. You're an awesome owner. Lucky cat 😻

HeatedDryer · 30/11/2019 23:06

Aw can we see a pic OP?

HeatedDryer · 30/11/2019 23:08

Our old girl lived to 18, current cats are 6 and hoping they keep going strong for many years to come.

RedCatTail · 30/11/2019 23:11

My mum has a cat whose about 18. Got her as a kitten in 2001.

celtiethree · 30/11/2019 23:12

Have two that are 20!

OrangeZog · 30/11/2019 23:16

I have a 20 year old and an almost 19 year old.

StCharlotte · 30/11/2019 23:16

We had a cat who lived to 23. Never a day at the vet. She was tiny and looked like a very young cat right to the end. Mad fucker though

WWlOOlWW · 30/11/2019 23:27

This makes me so happy ! I'm a first time cat servant and my brother / sister combo are almost 11. I'd be ecstatic if they lived another 10 years!
