My last cat was 21. Not sure how old my current cat is. He had been living as a stray. I think he's about 15

justcly · 30/11/2019 23:34

Monty is 20. He is quite arthritic but still loves dinner, threatening birds (through the window) and tearing paper into tiny pieces.

My girl made it to 19 (died early this year)
My Step Mum's Nellie was 23 and my friend's cat made it to 24!

They all looked bit decrepit mind!

I had my cat when I was about 4, she died when I was 26, I was heartbroken, she was my best friend growing up! I have two now, one is about 14, the other is 12 😊

Wow that's amazing OP, well done.
Dcat is 19 in a couple of months, she has been ill and sickly her whole life and I was pretty sure she's die young but she never does.
She has always had gastric troubles and now has Inflammatory bowel disease.
She also has hyperthyroidism that doesn't respond to drugs so she's off to the animal hospital in a couple of weeks for radioactive iodine injection which will cure that problem.
People say why don't you have that cat put down as she costs so much but I've had loads of cats over the years and I always know when they are ready and I happily make that decision if it's what they need.
She isn't ready, she still terrorises the neighbours big male cat and chases the ducks back into the river, plays with all her toys and loves to cuddle.
My neighbours cat died recently at 25.

Monty is fab Grin

CalleighDoodle · 30/11/2019 23:44

Mine are wuite young at 11. My parents cats were 18 when they died.

I read something that said cats are generally not well looked after. People tent not to take them to the vets.

SarahBeeney · 30/11/2019 23:45

My cat is 14 so still a nipper compared to some the oldies on here!
He only goes out for a poo and sleeps the rest of the time.

TheCanyon · 30/11/2019 23:53

My dm's cat was 23 when she went when I was 18 or so mum rescued her at the same age. I think my dm would be more upset losing a cat than child, and she loves us.

Mum brought us fluffyand his dead runover brother 7 years ago

Lovely pix from PPs. I miss my cat. He was only about 10 when he died. He’d always been a bit poorly.

SebandAlice · 01/12/2019 00:03

Love the three cat pics. Op picture please or it didn’t happen

Aloe6 · 01/12/2019 00:08

Love Monty. I’m envious of all these long lived cats. We’ve lost ours much younger to cancer.

Toomuchgoingon · 01/12/2019 00:12

We lost our cat two months ago and she was 21. She was feisty until about a week before she died. Feels very strange without her

PandasandRabbit · 01/12/2019 00:14

One 15 year old cat here, spends most day napping, howls when wakes until you explain where everything is, can't see much and on renal diet but very happy.

21 and still fairly active.
Struggles to groom his fur as well now and kidney function a little reduced, but otherwise fine.
Can't imagine not having him.

We got our last cat from Battersea dogs home and they advised she was between 3/5 yrs old when we collected her. As she was a stray they could not be sure. We had her for 19 years so she lived to 22-24. Our vet used to tell us she was the oldest cat on their books.

StrongerThanIThought76 · 01/12/2019 05:39

Is it very bad form to say I hope my 6 year old beast doesn't live that long? Tonight he brought in a live baby rat always alive which exceeds any of his previous offerings (Robins, blue tits, pigeons, mice, voles and even a live fucking rabbit one morning) If he continues to bring us live gifts for the next 15 years he'll be reducing the local rodent/bird pupolation by 5000+ creatures.

meowcatmeow · 01/12/2019 08:24

We adopted our cat when he was 12 years old from a cat rescue centre. He had just had his 21st birthday when went blind overnight. He was in so much distress that the next day that we let him go. He was 21 and the most lovely cat, so purry and dribbly and my shadow. Miss him a great deal.

Itstheprinciple · 01/12/2019 08:31

My mum's cat got to 20. She was upset she didn't make her 21st as she wanted to have a little party for her.
Our eldest is 15 now and is super skinny despite huge appetite. I suspect her metabolism is shot. She is otherwise happy and snuggly and actually the most content she's been as she was quite stressy when she was younger. She doesn't go out much in winter but does love a mooch round the garden on a warm day.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 01/12/2019 08:34

Mine is 16. He fought everything that moved when he was younger and he's still a mardy little fucker but he can't see it through these days. He met a cat who wouldn't back down in out garden the other dayand he had to slink away. I've never seen a cat look so embarrassed Grin.

I love old cats, so lazy and affectionate.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 01/12/2019 08:35

My eldest is 19, she’s amazing for her age! She does sleep quite a lot but still runs, jumps and can scrap with the other neighbourhood cats like a good ‘un when necessary!

She keeps my other three cats, including a five year old very Alpha Male, in check!

Ynci · 01/12/2019 08:51

Although I have 3 cats, I’d like a shout out for my 10.5 year old rabbit! She’s the grumpiest most stubborn creature and I adore her to the ends of the earth. She has her own room and the cats are terrified of her.

My Lucy is 14-16 years old. I got her from a rescue 12 years ago after she had been dumped in a box outside presumably as she was visibly pregnant. She went on to have and raise a litter of 5 kittens apparently who were all homes and she remained at the rescue for 18 months before I took her home.
The rescue told me black cats often get overlooked and left behind 😢 I think she is beautiful and love how the sun shines off her black fur!

I love her so much she is my best friend. She spends most of her time in doors now and whenever my daughter gets out her toys she always goes and sleeps next to or in the middle of them!!!

@ynci gorgeous bunny. My bunny Radish is 10 and she rules our house.

Cannyhandleit · 01/12/2019 09:41

We lost our cat at the grand old age of 19 last year! It was a very sad day! The vet kept saying we must have been very good owners but in all honesty I don't think we did anything different, she was very Independant and we rarely saw her 🤷‍♀️
