No tree this year, I only do it on the years dd is home for Christmas. When we do have one, it goes up on the 23rd and down on the 1st.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 30/11/2019 12:27

My real tree arrives on December 1st.

I will put it up on the first or second.

I have never had a problem with them lasting til 12th Night.
hopefully have not cursed myself by saying that

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 30/11/2019 12:31

We don't have a real tree anymore, but when we did we always put it up this weekend-ish and it would last until after new year. We had a stand you could top up with water. Always got a nordman fir.

Just got all the boxes of decorations out of the shed and will decorate ghe house tomorrow. Can't wait! This is the only time the house is changed as we don't decorate for Easter or Halloween and I love the abundance of sparkly lights everywhere 😊

PineappleDanish · 30/11/2019 12:42

Is there anything more depressing than a Christmas tree up for a month? Just urgh.

RolytheRhino · 30/11/2019 12:43

I don’t understand why people take their tree and decorations down before the holiday period is over i.e New Year’s Day

It's considered bad luck by some to leave it up over New Year's apparently because it drags some of last year's baggage into the new year. 🤷

TheMostHappy · 30/11/2019 12:58

We just finished putting up our tree - I couldn't be arsed with the faff of it all if it was only just for a couple weeks.

Some people's holiday period finished before then. When you're working over Christmas and New Year, I can see why you would take it down before twelfth night.

I cracked, mines up!

It's chilly and bright and there's a thing in town so lots of carroling. We're gonna wander down and watch a parade, drink some mulled wine, and come home to the tree.

Hurrah for trees!!!!

...and I did this wee one with the top of an old artificial tree..

We no longer have a real tree.

Ours will go up next weekend, as it's the only weekend I have off before Christmas.

The rest of the decs, mantle, stairs, dining room will get done as near to Christmas Eve as I can make it.

Everything comes down on New Years Day

threesenoughthanks · 30/11/2019 16:53

Ours won't be up for a couple of weeks. There's a place down the lane from us that sells trees and its car park was packed this morning.

JolieOBrien · 30/11/2019 16:55

@LumpySpacedPrincess

Your tree looks lovely!

megletthesecond · 30/11/2019 17:02

Of course not! It's November.
Our fake tree will go up on the 15th/16th. It gets in the way.

Celebelly · 30/11/2019 17:06

We don't have a real one this year for various reasons, but in the past ours has always gone up the first weekend of December and lasted fine for a month plus. Plenty of water and a non-shedder like a Nordmann fir is the key for us.

HowToBeAWoman · 30/11/2019 17:09

Putting ours up tomorrow. We are going away on the 20th for the whole Christmas period so I want a good three weeks of a tree up. Not bothering with any other decorations this year, though. Ours are tatty and I really don’t want to spend money on new ones this year.

stucknoue · 30/11/2019 17:12

Just finished but it's artificial (and 18 years old)

ysmaem · 30/11/2019 17:24

Yes! Tree has been up for over a week now.

Velveteenfruitbowl · 30/11/2019 17:28

No. Surely it would just die completely? Only put up the first lot of decorations today (a few lights and a countdown and wreath outside). Won’t be bringing in greens until a few days before (usually aim for 12 day’s before but can’t always be arsed). Definitely not more than two weeks before.

Evilspiritgin · 30/11/2019 17:30

Mine is going up tomorrow and more than likely will like every other year last until the 6th

Evilspiritgin · 30/11/2019 17:30

Of January

Thehagonthehill · 30/11/2019 17:35

I'm working the whole Christmas period,my DD is off to her dad's.The tree will be there to cheer me up as there will be no turkey and not much alcohol.
Going up the week before and staying until 12th night.

TheWinterCaillech · 30/11/2019 17:35

Up on St Nicholas’s day, down on the 5th January, day before Epiphany. My real tree lasts a month because it’s in a fairly cool extension, watered well and fed with lemonade.

DappledThings · 30/11/2019 17:36

Went up today. I think it's ridiculously early but DH wanted to and he cares more about it than me.

It's quite wonky. I like it though, I like a bit of haphazard, thrown together decorating!

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 30/11/2019 17:46

Nope. We get ours from a local fundraiser and they have the trees in a fortnight's time.
