Ours usually goes up around my birthday (16/12), this year it will be weekend of 14th-15th. Even a really decent Nordmann won't last from now to Christmas. Ours usually comes down 2nd/3rd January, definitely before school goes back!

Though it's getting a wee bit Christmassy this weekend as it's the first Sunday in advent so we start our advent candle wreath this weekend.

playftseforme · 30/11/2019 08:41

We’ve just put our real tree up and will decorate it tomorrow. We go on hols just after Christmas so we want to make the most of it in Dec. We usually get the tree early and with plenty of water we’ve not had a problem with it lasting.

Howmanysleepsnow · 30/11/2019 08:48

Ours goes up tomorrow. It will last fine. Last year’s tree went up on 23rd November and still had needles on 31st of January waiting to be recycled: see picture!

I did it yesterday because I am out shopping today. I don't have real Christmas tree just one in a pot outside which I put lights on.

WhenYouCantRunYouCrawl · 30/11/2019 08:51

Putting our potted tree up today but that's because we're away over Christmas from the 19th so may as well get some use out of it!

Bluesheep8 · 30/11/2019 08:53

No. Far too early. Ours will go up the weekend before Christmas. Although as no ones visiting I might just not bother this year.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 30/11/2019 08:54

Our real tree is up already, as are most of our decorations. I've never had an issue with keeping the tree alive for a month either.
We always get ours up early though as we take everything down on the 29th so DS's birthday doesn't get overshadowed by Christmas.

DogAndCatPerson · 30/11/2019 08:57

No. It goes up a week-10 days before Christmas in my house.

There are lots of people getting their trees already on Instagram and I’m wondering how they’ll keep them looking good throughout the season. I do all the ‘right’ things with mine (saw a bit off the bottom so it’s fresh, keep it in water, turn the central heating down, buy a good quality needle retaining species) but they still wouldn’t last 5 weeks through all of December and the first week Jan.

Shodan · 30/11/2019 09:14

No, although ds1 (23!!) is currently campaigning to get ours tomorrow (won't happen, I have an early Christmas party tonight and plan on being hungover Grin)

I had planned for next weekend but ds1 has scuppered that by getting a job that means working over those hours, so ours may go up sometime this week.

Watered well, and placed as far away from the radiator as possible, it should last until after New Year (mine always have)

Mjlp · 30/11/2019 09:20

We'll put our tree up on 1st December 🎄

TheChosenTwo · 30/11/2019 09:26

Just commented on a similar thread!
But no chance for us. We’re going on the 15th.
It all comes down on the 27th as we go away for 10 days every year after Christmas and I would hate to come home to all that clearing up and de-christmassing.
Love having the tree up, it always smells amazing and it’s really lovely to come down and switch the lights on etc but my god half of me is always itching to take it down and put all the Christmas stuff away so my house looks normal again Grin

danmthatonestakentryanotheer · 30/11/2019 09:35

Mine goes up the weekend before Christmas and comes down New Years Day. There's nothing more depressing than going back to work after the Christmas break and coming home to a still decorated house.

BrieAndChilli · 30/11/2019 09:37

Might get ours tomorrow. But we get ours from a farm in the woods rather than a supermarket/garden centre so freshly cut. We water it etc and it’s not in a warm spot.
Always last until just before new year - we like to have it down by NYE so that starting the year fresh and tidy. Never get any needle drop, and always looks fine at Christmas

MontStMichel · 30/11/2019 09:42

DD wanted to get it out in October; but we said

“Imagine what it would be like by Christmas with the cats at it?”

A drunken wreck! (One year I put it up in a different place. DH came home drunk from the staff Xmas party and picked it up by the top to move it, where he thought it should be! It fell apart into its three constituent pieces!)

wonkylegs · 30/11/2019 09:52

Nope we don't do Christmas before DHs birthday (today)
Next weekend we will do the tree partially because it's the only weekend we have time

WhenTwoBecomeThree · 30/11/2019 09:56

Ours usually goes up on the 1st but we've put it up a week early this year as i'm due to give birth any day now. Our real tree lasted fine last year and was still as green as the day we bought it after having it up a month!

Treq · 30/11/2019 09:59

Ours normally goes up on the 1st or 2nd, always lasts fine until Christmas

supadupapupascupa · 30/11/2019 10:12

Artificial here. Normally all goes up beginning of December and comes down 6th January. This year we are decorating until 17th so will have to wait until then and it might kill me!

Crunchymum · 30/11/2019 11:21

God no. Way too early.

Although I did sort through all my Xmas stuff and I've put the candles and signs up.....the kids have gone to a winter wonderland thing today (not the winter wonderland) and they'll like to come home to see their calendars up and it looking a wee bit festive.

I'm debating between next weekend and the 14th for the actual real tree (kids trashy tree will go up next Sunday!!)

KingscoteStaff · 30/11/2019 11:27

Of course not. It’s not the 21st of Dec yet, which is official tree-day.

StCharlotte · 30/11/2019 11:36

It's about three weeks too early for a real tree

We used to sell Christmas trees at our village shop from about the first week of December. Our supplier told us they're all cut at the same time so the one you buy on Christmas Eve is probably no "fresher" than your neighbour's that went up on 1st December.

The only time I went really early was when we bought our house with a BAY WINDOW and I couldn't wait. I normally put ours up during the Sports Personality Awards. It's our only "tradition"!

Cookit · 30/11/2019 11:39

Also.. it feels like it's been November for a year and a half so maybe that's the issue

It really does.

I’m a second week of December person myself but I can see the appeal of late November this year!

GorkyMcPorky · 30/11/2019 11:40

No. It's November. It won't be bought for at least a fortnight.

Emmapeeler1 · 30/11/2019 12:00

No way.! Just before Christmas til 5th Jan for me.

LauraLooDerby · 30/11/2019 12:11

We've just put ours up, yet to decorate (that's my job this afternoon while DP is at the footie!).
I'm 38 weeks pregnant so didn't want to wait any later in case baby decided to make an early appearance!
