My 2 year old won't talk, will he ever?!

He was 2 earlier this month.

No speech. Nothing. Won't say a word. Occasionally babbles.

I try to encourage speech in various ways, such as speaking to him all the time, him being around other people, reading, but he won't engage with any of it.

If your child wasn't speaking at 2, when did they start to speak?

I'm so worried Sad

My DS was exactly like this. However his comprehension and ability to follow instructions was there.

What changed for us was he started nursery. Compared to the other kids he was practically non verbal. Words started slowly coming out in first term. Start of the second term he started repeating everything and it exploded from there. He was 2.5 by this point. Health visitor referred him to salt and audiology. Hes had his hearing test, it was all fine. As said he just started repeating words then talking and it just exploded from there. It's just his pronunciation that needs work but were getting there. Everyone says they should be this at this age or that but every child is different. So long as u dont have any concerns about his comprehension he will get there in his own time
