Have you changed your mind about who to vote for in the GE?

Was wondering whether the leaders debates, political news or social media have made anyone change their mind about who to vote for? Also, any predictions about the outcome at this point?

OP posts:

The NHS needs investment. I don't care if the US funds some of it.

MediocreOmens · 21/11/2019 20:38

I was voting Labour begrudgingly, but now the manifesto has been released I am much more comfortable about voting Labour, and I am a higher rate tax payer and I work long hours but I am ultra aware I am one of the lucky ones. Also to the poster complaining they can't afford the extra 20% on school fees, my heart bleeds for you. There are people in this country who can't afford to bloody feed their children but boohoo your children may have to slum it in a state school, give over.

TiceCream · 21/11/2019 20:40

I might change my mind if Labour got rid of Corbyn. Otherwise I’ll have to vote Tory because I cannot in good conscience vote for anything that would make Corbyn our Prime Minister.

I don't want or need you to feel sorry for me. But my concerns are as valid to me as yours are to you. I don't think punishing private schools is fair or clever.

I am more than happy to pay more tax and would never say otherwise. I'm just sick of being seen as a valid land grab.

pigeononthegate · 21/11/2019 20:41

timeforawine, do you think people on minimum wage don't work hard?

The Tories will win, and win handsomely, because many people are spoiled, selfish and stupid.

ShinyGiratina · 21/11/2019 20:41

No one is persuading me not to spoil my vote yet. The whole lot sounds like bullshit or fantasy so far.

I'm in a crap constituency anyway. Safe seat with well over half of the votes cast for Conservatives. You could fit the voters for Greens or Lib Dems into an average size secondary school and have spare seats. The demographic is a lot older than average and resistant to changing.

Half a mile away had the most marginal seat in the country in 2015. Swung 2017. An interesting clash of loyalty in avaliable candidates this time.

FPTP stinks.

Trewser · 21/11/2019 20:42

And the Labour manifesto is dishonest, and that is patently obvious to anyone with an ounce of economic knowledge.

Quellium · 21/11/2019 20:42

That's not what is going to happen though, is it Trewser? American "Investment" out of the goodness of their hearts.

We will all be looking at needing private health insurance to access any form of medical care, sky rocketing drugs prices and god knows what else.

What makes you look at the American system, where for example, diabetics have to decide which days to take their insulin on so they can save money and hopefully not die? Or those with pre-existing conditions are denied cover and think all that looks great?

It's terrifying.

SueDoeName · 21/11/2019 20:44

I have . I was considering voting 🤮 Tory for the first time in my life ( wanted Brexit done with!) but my conscience won and I'll be going with labour all the way . Can't see how anyone with a social conscience could do anything else?

MediocreOmens · 21/11/2019 20:46

No your concerns aren't as valid as mine. My concerns are human beings have access to basic necessities such as safe housing fit for habitation, enough food, an education and healthcare, regardless of the situation they were born into. Your concerns are your children don't have to give up a part of the very privileged position you find yourselves in, for the not as good but still valid option of state education. You need to look further than the end of your nose.

Trewser · 21/11/2019 20:53

I don't have to actually. I don't have to vote for a party who makes it clear that they hate me and everything I stand for. Sorry if that's not virtue signalling enough for you.

A couple of years old but an interesting article about the wealthy ‘bubble’. Are the pitchforks coming...?!

CendrillonSings · 21/11/2019 20:58

No, I’ll just vote Tory with extra gusto, thanks! Maybe make sure like-minded friends and neighbours get to the polls too Smile

Canyousewcushions · 21/11/2019 21:01

I am undecided. I was going to vote SNP as an anti brexit party who is quite likely to win my local seat, but I have serious reservations about the Scottish independence agenda. They've now made it pretty clear that they consider a vote for SNP as a vote for indyref2, which it wouldn't be in my case.

However, Labour are the other realistic contender for my seat, they are blatantly a leave party who are trying not to alienate remainers with the "fence sitting", and also have a lot of policies which are far too left wing for my liking.

I might vote lib dem. Really I'd be OK with the snp winning my seat but I'd equally be happy if we had more time before indyref2 was real- I don't want my vote to be seen as a 'yes' to independence when actually I just want to say no to brexit.

Roman4 · 21/11/2019 21:02

You should only contemplate not voting LD if your constituency only has a small minority support for LD .
Why should we not cancel BREXIT . The hard Brexit that Boris/Nigel have worked so hard to engineer will bring disaster .
If you think that US Pharma are NOT going to pressure for increased control over our drugs procurement (as part of a trade deal) just look at the Canada/Mexico deal . Trump unilaterally cancelled NAFTA and pressured tham into increasing the length of time drug patents last and removing acces to both Generics and Bio-similars .
As a further result of this "re-negotiation" Bombardier sold their Belfast wing plant to a US company , after Airbus had agrred to save it from the imposition of 292% tariff charges .
The UK is better off with the EU deal that we have , than any deals ( US or EU) that can be brokered after we leave . We will then end up begging for re-admission , BUT without Sterling as a currency and without a rebate option (Even Germany now gets a rebate) …
You cannot trust Boris and/or the new Tories , and Labour will bankrupt the population trying to buy back what we already have - and giving it away free if BroadBand is anything to go by .. (Not sure of the impact on Virgin , esp. since this is now US owned - like SKY .
Unfortunately , this is just a short starter from a long list !

TheGirlFromStoryville · 21/11/2019 21:03

Conservatives for me.
DH has always voted Labour but feels he can no longer vote for them due to anti-Semitism.
Fairly safe Tory seat though.

MediocreOmens · 21/11/2019 21:05

That's fine, I don't have to consider you anything other than heartless and selfish, trembling at the idea you have to give up a small slice of the huge pie you have, so that someone else's kid may have a tiny fraction of what your children enjoy on a daily basis. And don't even start on the bull crap of we worked hard to build our business we didn't get help from anyone, I hear that all the time. No one built a successful business in the UK without benefiting from the educated workforce and infrastructure this country provides.

Looking at the disparity in society and thinking we are all human beings why should I have so much when others have so little, is not virtue signalling, it is called empathy.

BennyTheBall · 21/11/2019 21:06

I will vote conservative. Labour would ruin us.

Very safe Conservative seats around here.

popsadaisy · 21/11/2019 21:12

Couldn't have put it better myself @MediocreOmens 👏🏼👏🏼

AngelOfDeathNix · 21/11/2019 21:14

We're in a safe Tory seat here, been Tory led since we moved here 15 years ago. A tactical vote would be for Labour, but I cannot bring myself to vote Corbyn in. Our local MP hasn't exactly made herself many friends here either with some very odd voting decisions. A Lib Dem vote would be wasted here, they've never come in close. I work in the NHS, Im concerned for the future of it, the privatisation of healthcare and the many many bullshit lines that we have already been spun. I'm struggling to choose who to give my vote to.

SwedishEdith · 21/11/2019 21:17

No - I'll still have to vote tactically to try to get rid of the Tory MP. The threat of no deal has most certainly not gone away.

Snowy111 · 21/11/2019 21:19

Very safe Tory seat but will vote labour. We need to stop Brexit and start caring about the most vulnerable in society.

Trewser · 21/11/2019 21:21

trembling at the idea you have to give up a small slice of the huge pie you have, so that someone else's kid may have a tiny fraction of what your children enjoy on a daily basis

If I thought it was that easy I'd do it in a heartbeat. Don't try to pretend that punishing private schools and the people who use them is anything other than a spiteful swipe at people who have removed themselves from state control.

Solihooley · 21/11/2019 21:22

I was going to vote Lib Dem. We were traditionally a safe Lib Dem seat but more recently have been very safe Tory seat and my area is majority leave. So I feel my ‘tactical’ Lib Dem vote won’t count and after seeing the debate and manifesto I’m going to go with my heart and vote labour. I would love to see some of the changes in the way we fund public services and I feel we desperately need investment in so many areas.

SuperMeerkat · 21/11/2019 21:22

Lifelong Tory voter here and staying that way.
