You've got your hands full comment

Why do people say this? It's obvious if someone is walking around with 3/4 children and shopping etc they are struggling.

The past 3 days when I have gone out with my dc I have had this comment said to me many times.

If someone has said this to you before what was your reply? I started of by smiling at them but now it's got to a point I just pretend not to hear them.

On the other hand if you have said ' you've got your hands full' to anyone before, why did you say it ? Apart from to state the obvious.

I hate that phrase. Used to have it said to me all the time whilst working in an understaffed medical department - it's like not shit Sherlock. Although I would smile nod and humour the abit 😃😃😃

I say, "yes, I am, would you like one?" with a big grin

When I’ve been asked “are they all yours?!”, I have once or twice responded with “No...they just keep appearing”

Like you, it’s the ‘rather you than me’ tone to it that grates.

I have 2 very close in age and when the toddler is kicking off because he doesn’t want to leave the park and the baby is crying because he’s hungry (I’m already stressed!) and I get a ‘you’ve got your hands full!’ With a tone like that it makes me feel I’m being negatively judged for not being able to handle my kids.

Sometimes it is obviously empathetic but a lot of the time it isn’t.
