Horrific, cheesy drivel.
I love it!

BuffaloCauliflower · 14/11/2019 20:58

Excellent crap. Love it! try to ignore the sexism

blackmould · 14/11/2019 21:00

I find it massively offensive, by which I mean it was made with huge contempt for the audience, as if they'll accept this badly written, nonsensical shit because it's about wuv and chopped up into different stories, each shitter than the last.

soupforbrains · 14/11/2019 21:00

Obviously if you disent it, there are a great many failings but I ADORE it love watching it and it never fails to make me laugh and cry and it’s an uplifting feeling I’m left with at the end.

(Though the Joni Mitchell CD breaks my heart again every time I watch)

PurpleDaisies · 14/11/2019 21:02

I don’t like it. Don’t go in with too high expectations!

Magnificentme · 14/11/2019 21:03

Thought I'd give it ago as hugh Grant is in it
Don't ask me why but he makes me feel all warm and cosy whenever I watch him in films haha I think it's his voice it's really soothing God I sound like a freak now Blush

You'll like Hugh dancing Grin

Celebelly · 14/11/2019 21:05

I love it despite the more problematic elements.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/11/2019 21:07

I love it but probably because it reminds me of being 17 and loving it then... not sure if I watched it fresh today how I’d feel

soupforbrains · 14/11/2019 21:07

If you’re expecting an amusing and lighthearted trashy romcom (which you probably are given your fondness for Hugh) then I think you’ll really enjoy it.

It’s by no means intellectual or deep but IMO it’s fun, funny, and actually quite moving at times.

Bluerussian · 14/11/2019 21:07

I've never seen it but seen clips - Bill Nighy?

LoseLooseLucy · 14/11/2019 21:12

I once spent a glorious Christmas day in the front room with MIL and DPs elderly aunt and various relatives with Love Actually on in the background, when all of a sudden Martin Freeman was thrusting doggy style with a naked Joanna Page, boobs bouncing all over.

I don't know who turned redder.

Rosere · 14/11/2019 21:14

It's a great watchable film. Enjoy.

blackmould · 14/11/2019 21:17

The contempt for its female characters just hits you over the head - I can't imagine any self-respecting woman would think any of these relationships were good/aspirational? (I may be forgetting some)

But that's not even the worst thing for me, it's the sheer laziness of the 'storylines'. What's the Kris Marshall one? He says he will do (X - no spoiler), does it, and does it in a really sexist way. A lot of the humour is based around calling a not-at-all-fat character fat. I can't think of many saving graces - Rowan Atkinson is quite funny in it? Maybe the caterer conversation, which is entirely predictable?

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 14/11/2019 21:21

I don't like how the word "spaz" is thrown out so casually by Colin Firth's character. The rest of it is terrible too really.

Elbeagle · 14/11/2019 21:23

blackmould I don’t think anyone has said that they find the relationships aspirational.

MrsGrindah · 14/11/2019 21:23

Never understood why this is a “Christmas classic”. Utter rubbish.

Spied · 14/11/2019 21:26

I'm a horror fan...
But LOVE Love Actually.
Maybe it is horrifically bad but it's a thumbs up from meGrin

Fishcakey · 14/11/2019 21:27

I love it. Total cheese!

blackmould · 14/11/2019 21:30

blackmould I don’t think anyone has said that they find the relationships aspirational.

No but they're supposed to be heart-warming? I guess? Am I missing something and everyone loves this film because it shows awful creepy relationships?

SleepwalkingThroughLife · 14/11/2019 21:31

But, oh, Emma Thompson, my heart broke....

elmosducks · 14/11/2019 21:31

I adore it

30not13 · 14/11/2019 21:32

Only time I ever fancied Hugh Grant in anything, shimmying around #10 to the Pointer Sisters 😳
