Which one do you prefer?

It’s The Chase for me.

ComfortablyGlum

Pointless is a great game ruined by Armstrong’s weapons grade level of faffery

The show could easily be 30 minutes if we were spared his inane waffling

In the audience, watching it being filmed was a good 3 hours. In a freezing cold studio. Those ad-lib jokes? When you've heard them half a dozen times and then applauded like demented seals each time as if you've never heard it before its soul destroying.

Never been so glad to get in the pub afterwards! Grin

@iklboo
I can say for definite The Chase isn't rigged.

Was that referring to my post? I said specifically the celebrity charity versions I thought were rigged. I remember in one of the early ones when Shaun guessed incorrectly and didn't know that The Simpsons were yellow. Seemed so fake.

iklboo · 12/11/2019 18:25

@BritishHorrorStory - sorry I meant that tongue in cheek. I do agree the charidee ones seem much more biased.

Did you meet Paul Sinha? I really heart him

iklboo · 12/11/2019 18:46

No @ArseDarkly - I got The Beast (who is actually quite nice off camera).

Please bring back the chase

Had my photo taken with the sinnerman in york this summer for the fringe festival
Went on to see the show..he’s very funny
His Parkinson’s is getting quite evident

ArseDarkly · 12/11/2019 19:16

God it's so sad about his Parkinsons Sad

He did a series of shows in radio 4 in the summer, they were so funny and sharp and informative, might still be on Sounds. I hope he can keep going as the Parkinsons progresses, he seems very busy.

The Beast - I just knew he'd be a big softy

KateFoster · 12/11/2019 20:03

The chase. Love it so much I went on it!

Me neither, I watched it, thinking The Chase was going to be on and was getting confused by what was going on. Just do a straight up quiz where people at home can play along.

Does anyone else remember when ITV trialled week long versions of The Chase, Divided and The Fuse back in 2009 at the same time to see which one would get most viewers and be most popular to replace Goldenballs? The Chase was viewed the least apparently, yet still going on 10 years later but the other two aren't. Divided (the end round) was horrifically CRUEL! But intense (and often funny Grin)!

I'd really have liked to see how Shaun Williamson would have done as a Chaser. Apparently, he was a very strong contender when they were looking for a fifth one, but not unreasonably, they wanted another woman to even things up a bit - and Jenny is very good at it (and quick).

It might also have got a bit confusing having two Shaun Ws on there, unless they strictly referred to them by their Chaser names at all times behind the scenes. Even then, can you imagine it?! Will it be:

The Beast
The Governess
The Dark Destroyer
The Sinnerman
The Vixen
Barry

to see which one would get most viewers and be most popular to replace Goldenballs?

The big dramatic ending of Goldenballs was taken from Shafted, wasn't it (unless they nicked it from elsewhere before that)? Maybe it's a generic gameshow function, as they also did it on The Bank Job.

And I was always irrationally irritated where it was taken as the default that the two finalists would share the prize unless somebody stole, but Jasper would always say they'd stolen ALL of it. If the jackpot was £20,000 and somebody stole whilst the other one split, the former had surely only stolen £10,000, on top of what was already 'rightfully' theirs, hadn't they?!

I wonder if Shafted would have had more success if it had had a less disagreeable and oleaginous host than Kilroy. Then again, I really liked The Colour Of Money (aka Highly-Strung People Shouting At Cashpoints) - and Chris Tarrant was a safe pair of hands to present it - but that got cancelled very quickly indeed.

youngestisapsycho · 14/11/2019 12:17

I've seen some episodes of The Chase where it is obviously clear that the chaser is stalling or giving wrong ansers so that the contestants win....

EggysMom · 14/11/2019 22:04

I once got three pointless answers in the final - I was thrilled.

DH and I once got over twenty pointless answers in the final. The question was to name Manchester Metrolink (tram) stations - all bar one of the stops on my home line were pointless Grin

I would agree with PPs who say that Pointless drags. We tend to pause it, answer the questions / come up with words to fit the pattern required, then fast-forward between contestants giving answers.
