Everyday is a school day Grin

I once passed something strange. It was extremely painful. It was white, round, flat and rubbery in texture. Probably about the diameter of a small orange. I always assumed it may have been a miscarriage?

havingtochangeusernameagain · 11/11/2019 17:59

I've never heard of this either. Yuck. I have seen some pretty big clots but nothing like this. I think I'd rather sit on the loo for an hour a month and lose it all in one go than have a long drawn out flooding process though!

IceniSky · 11/11/2019 18:10

Anyone had them fall out at an inconvenient time? Thinking at work, in a meeting!

Never heard of them.

Thescrewinthetuna · 11/11/2019 18:56

I don’t think they would come out at an inconvenient time because you get very strong period pains (as some have said on here akin to labour pains) because the cervix has to open a bit to let it out, so I doubt you’d be out and about in such pain. I’ve had really big clots and had bad pains so I imagine a cast this big would be worse. Glad you feel better now OP

PaisleyPrintz · 11/11/2019 19:01

I've had one before, when I was about 19 years old. Always thought is was an early miscarriage because I was sexually active, though on the pill at the time.

Baguetteaboutit · 11/11/2019 19:07

Jesus Christ. I've never heard of anything like it. If that thing fell out of me I'd just be pleased it didn't bust out through my ribcage. Envy Bleugh

Loving the links, very informative and yes, probably not the best idea to put pictures on Instagram!

Never heard of these, but given how many pp on here have experienced this or similar, it should definitely be in textbooks and spoken about more.

Hope you’re OK, OP.

Lardlizard · 11/11/2019 19:16

Just showed dh and he nearly passed out
Had to let him know just incase I pass out or anything (don’t feel like I’m going to, feel fine )
He can call for medical attention

He looks like the one that needs medical attention now

There’s nothing about it on you tube I can find

Fascinating. Again, something I wish I'd been taught about in my 46 years.

I remember the postpartum shedding of blood/clots - so much that I thought my insides were coming out, and the nonchalant nurse's "meh!" reaction to my panic.

Lardlizard · 11/11/2019 19:18

It’s also made me wonder what would happen to a woman of the woman’s body was unable to pass that

OP posts:
Lardlizard · 11/11/2019 19:55

I’m guessing I really shouldn’t take that provera again ?

My first one was on a train, second at work. I have endometriosis though, and have very long very painful periods for which I take morphine so if I didn’t go out with such severe pain I’d rarely go out! I can’t say it was worse than a normal period, which should give you an idea of what my periods are like!

Lardlizard · 11/11/2019 20:18

Sinkgirl when you say your first one ? How many have you had ? 😵

moanyhole · 11/11/2019 20:19

I had one as part of my ectopic. I thought it was the baby and told the medics I didnt need surgery. They told me that I still did which was a bit of a bummer!

Lardlizard · 11/11/2019 20:19

Just been looking at uterus photos online and it is exactly that shape so it must be what it is
I don’t think I’ve ever really know what a uterus looks like before

OP posts:
Lardlizard · 11/11/2019 20:20

Wonder why this happens with ectopic pregnancy then ?
Somehow the lining builds up I guess

There are threads about this periodically the most memorable one was along the lines of ‘unexpected item in baggage/ shagging area’ but i can’t find it any more.
Bodies are weird.

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 11/11/2019 20:25

Ooh, I had one of those once. Had a thread about it in fact Grin

SinkGirl · 11/11/2019 21:15

I’ve had two. I was consistently on some hormone or other for endometriosis from when I was 13 to 33 so not too surprising my body responded badly a few time.

Quite often I’ll lose chunks of tissue but only had full casts like this twice.

It does make you realise that your uterus is actually smaller than you might think, although it doesn’t feel small when passing one of these.

I’ve had multiple courses of provera or norethisterone to delays periods and it definitely hasn’t happened every time so I wouldn’t worry.

Lardlizard · 11/11/2019 22:21

I thought a non pregnant uterus was the size of a thumb nail
A friend told me that so I simply believed it

Wowzers....

I can't believe I have made to it almost 40 without knowing what a 'decidual cast' is.

ReallyLoveChickens · 11/11/2019 22:38

Amazing stuff!

GoldfishGirl · 11/11/2019 22:42

Really glad you were able to get a quick answer and glad it's okay, I'm going to park this under 'things I may need to know one day'. PHEW.
