Ooh I had this once! I was freaked out thought I was having a miscarriage. I had taken the same period delaying medication for two weeks for a holiday. Nice to know it has a name (the process, not that bit of your uterus lining, although maybe you should name it!)

nibdedibble · 11/11/2019 14:56

OP I am glad you are ok, that must have been a horrendous adrenaline surge when you saw that...thing.

I'm really Shock at the number of people saying they've had this - I haven't and have never heard of it! You'd think we'd get taught about something so potentially worrying.

When I was 25 I went to the dr after a horrendous flooding incident and he told me that menstrual haemorrhages are quite common. Nobody tells you this stuff and we need to know!

managedmis · 11/11/2019 14:58

Lord above

How come we've never heard of this before? I know my rock is comfy, but come on!

Lardlizard · 11/11/2019 15:02

Should get taught about this stiff at school
And the menopause !

Or something and it’s starting to dehydrate !!

I felt like I was happier in life before I knew this could happen. Now at the start of every period I am going to live in fear.

Phoenix76 · 11/11/2019 15:20

Celebelly 😂 I too will now be getting the "fear", I'm 43 fgs and I'd have been on the phone to my gp in a panic, never heard of anything like this!

BaronessBomburst · 11/11/2019 15:26

I wondered about clicking on this thread when I read the title but I'm glad I did!
It's fascinating.

Lardlizard · 11/11/2019 15:42

So does this mean my cervix must be one for that to have passed through ?!

OP posts:
Lardlizard · 11/11/2019 15:42

Open not one

OP posts:
PonteLaCorona · 11/11/2019 16:20

It hurts like labour because your cervix has to open like labour (not all the way, obviously) to let it out.

It can be the effect of the hormones on your womb lining. I had one too after taking period delay medication. Not as massive as yours though.

HermioneWeasley · 11/11/2019 16:28

I once had something the texture and size of a small skinless chicken breast fall out of me during my period. I could feel it slithering it’s way out and then it plopped on the bathroom floor. It was hideous in a really compelling way.

Never found out what it was.

Fuckenstein · 11/11/2019 16:40

It's amazing that a uterus can grow from something that size, to something big enough to house a baby.

MotherofKitties · 11/11/2019 16:45

Well you learn something new every day; never even heard of this before! Quite glad I came across this thread and googled what it was because if I'd had one of these and didn't know about it beforehand I would have massively freaked out!

Glad it's nothing too scary OP Smile xx

rabbitsandrhubarb · 11/11/2019 16:52

I have had exactly this after taking Norithisterone to delay periods whilst I was on holiday. Got back, had really agonising period pains and then passed something similar. Has never happened since, and am now post menopausal (though in the peri menopause I also had a lot of flooding and passed some very large blood clots at times).

Am quite glad to find out it actually has a name!

StellaRockafella · 11/11/2019 17:04

Probably wrong to say this but how fascinating, thank you OP for sharing.

This is an interesting read

Lardlizard · 11/11/2019 17:15

I find it quite fascinating. Too in a bizarre alien type way
No wonder I was cramping so bad !

MepsiPax · 11/11/2019 17:15

Jesus! You learn something every day. Never in all my 55 years have I heard of this.

Lardlizard · 11/11/2019 17:15

I don’t want to tell my dr as I don’t want to be sent for an internal exam or internal scan

notangelinajolie · 11/11/2019 17:22

Yep, I had this after being on Norethisterone for quite some time. I was taking it for heavy perioids. I forgot to get my prescription and so started to get period pain type pain but then it got really, really bad and it was literally like being in labour. I passed it in the bath and was totally freaked out by it.

Wrapped it up and took it to an emergency Doctor and he said it looked like the lining of my womb had come out whole. He didn't tell me there was a name for it - it's kind of reassuring to know that it's a thing.

He referred me to Gynae and I had a D&C under general anaesthetic - they didn't find anything wrong but other tests revealed that at age 37 I was in early menopause. I wasn't allowed to go back on Norethisterone after that. Thankfully periods stopped not long after.

OhMsBeliever · 11/11/2019 17:27

I've taken norethisterone to delay my periods quite a few times and this has never happened.

Though I pass quite big clots normally anyway, so maybe it has and I just haven't noticed?

WotcherHarry · 11/11/2019 17:28

I also had this many years ago - I had an implant but had it taken out after a few months as it was having a hormonal effect on my ligaments and I had awful back ache. My periods stopped for a few months and then this happened on my first period. I was only 19, was scared stiff!

WinterRose92 · 11/11/2019 17:32

Wow, I never knew this could happen! How crazy!
