Ridiculous things that you do for actually no reason

Whenever I pick up a parcel from the reception desk at work or from a neighbour I have to tell them what's in it. I have no idea why, they obviously don't care but I do it EVERY TIME.

Please tell me I'm not uniquely weird?!

Pee paquita!!!!

Somanysocks · 16/11/2019 20:03

I shout CHIPPY CHIPS when i drive past a chip shop and can smell them frying (but only when i'm by myself) 😊

Cherrysoup · 16/11/2019 20:09

try to make words out of the letters. I annoy myself doing it but can't seem to stop.

I’ve done this since I can remember. It annoys me!

Shockers · 16/11/2019 20:13

I tell everyone how much everything costs me because I really love a bargain.

I also have to balance food in my mouth, so mouthfuls are always the same size, but I alternate sides.

Knittedfairies · 16/11/2019 20:18

I have to sing a little ditty about the number 9 bus whenever I see it. It doesn't really matter if I'm in the car, but I was on another bus a couple of weeks ago, so had to quietly hum the tune. Bonkers.

SugarThreat · 16/11/2019 20:21

As PP mentioned up thread, I upset myself by imagining unpleasant scenarios where my feelings get hurt or complex arguments with my DP 😩 I really break my own heart at times. What's that all about?!

TooManyGlasses · 16/11/2019 20:29

When I was younger, if I was walking somewhere and had to turn in the same direction too many times, I’d then have to turn around on the spot in the other direction to feel straightened out. It was as if there was a string coming out of my back and I’d tangled myself up in it. I once caught my dad doing it and realised it was genetic! I’ve done it a lot less since having kids - too busy thinking of more immediate concerns!

TooManyGlasses · 16/11/2019 20:33

Also, whenever I’m in the car I end up singing specific songs. If I spend too long in second gear I sing the Friends theme “always stuck in second gear...” and there is a particular song I find myself singing automatically when I get to a certain speed, because the sound of the engine is in a certain rhythm, which matches the song. I can’t remember the song now because I’m not driving!

TooManyGlasses · 16/11/2019 20:33

Aren’t people weird? Grin

Shockers · 16/11/2019 20:35

I can’t walk the same way twice in the same journey- I always do round trips to the shops etc.

Ilovelala · 16/11/2019 20:37

1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128.......... whenever I have nothing else to think about.

Kittyhawksue · 16/11/2019 20:37

When I look in the mirror I always make weird faces at myself, can’t seem to stop!

bouncychair · 16/11/2019 20:40

I binge watch series of TV shows and then my internal brain voice takes on the accents of the show.

Peaky Blinders - became very brummie and aggressive during that binge watch. More Arthur than Tommy.
Orange Is The New Black - not so much an accent but a conviction that I could DEFINITELY cope if I was falsely imprisoned.
Downtown Abbey and The Crown - became frightfully posh and superior. (And will do once again when I begin the binge tomorrow!)

Cherry4weans · 16/11/2019 20:40

I replay the Riverdance steps by chattering my teeth Grin and am actually quite upset no-one else can hear it the way I do Hmm

SoulToSqueeze · 16/11/2019 20:41

I also trace out words with many fingers for no reason. If I'm talking to someone to just watching tv a random word or sentence will stick in my head and I'll start writing it out in fancy imaginary writing on my leg, a table, a book etc

Cherry4weans · 16/11/2019 20:47

@whyhaveidonethis Omg!! I do this but it's like the sunset over flats near where I used to live. So random! I have Auras alot though so wonder if it's the hormones...

Spitsandspots · 16/11/2019 20:50

If i am a passenger on the motorway or on a train, I imagine someone running really fast alongside and leaping over the fences and walls etc.

Same. But also when even just being driven down the road at 30 mph

For some reason every time I hear a sentence on tv that is a sentence from a song I start bellowing out the song

I also do this.

And I count all sorts but especially steps when I’m walking and I like even numbers.

GoodyAdultHumanFemale · 16/11/2019 20:56

I ALWAYS have a song in my head. I didn't realise til I was night feeding DD 18years ago, but it's usually a different one every time I wake up.

And I ALWAYS start singing songs if anyone says a word or two that could be the lyrics. Eg someone could say 'it's so cold' and I'd star singing so cold the night.

And I ALWAYS notice registration plates and try to make words for them or imagine they are acronyms and I make up phrases.

GoodyAdultHumanFemale · 16/11/2019 21:00

And I see the words I'm sayi g or hearing.
If someone says their name is Katie or Sean or Stewart, I visualise how it's spelled. Even if I don't know, I just guess, but I always see it.

RedRec · 16/11/2019 21:10

When I first started drinking effervescent vitamin C I put it in a champagne flute so it looked like Bucks Fizz. Now I couldn't possibly drink it out of any other glass.

(Can't stop chuckling about the PP who whispers Sean Bean's name.)

SLC88 · 16/11/2019 21:11

@Cherry4weans I am actually pissing myself at the Riverdance. I love it.

Nannewnannew · 16/11/2019 21:17

OMG I do the counting thing as well! But why?
When I was working and in a meeting I always had to draw little hedgehogs in the margin, goodness knows why, maybe it gave the impression I was studiously taking notes!
If I closed a wound I always liked to put an uneven number of sutures in.
Perhaps it’s just as well I’m retired now!

Tonz · 16/11/2019 21:17

The one who whispers Sean Beans name has just made my night 😂😂

mylaptopismylapdog · 16/11/2019 21:32

Very reassuring that lots of us do things we fear are odd so self consciousness is quite common!

Stroller15 · 16/11/2019 21:34

Everytime I make scrambled eggs I pretend I'm on a cooking show. Get 2 fresh eggs, make sure they're fresh...etc.
I have to turn over 3 times in bed before I can fall asleep. Some nights when I'm exhausted the last thing I want to do is turn over 3 times but I have to. I also have to catch the microwave before it bings.
Also narrate most of my day to myself.
