Ridiculous things that you do for actually no reason

Whenever I pick up a parcel from the reception desk at work or from a neighbour I have to tell them what's in it. I have no idea why, they obviously don't care but I do it EVERY TIME.

Please tell me I'm not uniquely weird?!

If I am jogging I cannot run on the pavement when there are parked cars as I feel really boxed in. Unfortunately this is most roads as there's not much off street parking where I live. So I have to run in the middle of the road. This means I go running at 5am so there is no traffic.

I am also terrified of vomit. If I think about sick I have to touch my head six times or something bad will happen. Sometimes my head makes me think about sick on purpose so I can be doing it all the time. I hate it and wish I could stop.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 08/11/2019 05:33

@Hecateh

Now I have “pee Paquita” going round my head to the tune of “sing Hosanna, sing Hosanna, Hosanna to the King of Kings”

cantfindname · 08/11/2019 06:14

I do the counting thing, often unaware I am doing it.

My worse one is when I make a cup of coffee (or even tea) My first boyfriend would always say 'Let the kettle go off the boil before you make the coffee' 45 years later I still say it to myself every single time!

TroysMammy · 08/11/2019 06:34

When I see cars I zoom in on the last three letters of the registration number and think of an abbreviation I know eg CXR = chest x ray, DHC = dihydrocodeine etc.

lowlandLucky · 08/11/2019 06:37

Oh my, thank god i dont have neighbours, i am sat here laughing like a drain. I am glad to know i am not the onlycrazy one who does things for no reason. I do so many things that drive me mad, i have to use the same coloured pegs to hang an item on the washing line, if its pillowcases they must all have the same colour. I have to turn my wedding ring around on my finger 7 times before i go out the door or get off the bus or train and i can only eat crisps from a bag with my left hand

BethanyGilbert · 08/11/2019 06:38

I have so many like these. These are the three that annoy me most.

  1. I have to take notice of every car reg I see and work out how old it is. It’s like a compulsion. One time I accidentally drove without my glasses and it felt so relaxing because I wasn’t looking at all the regs.
  2. I have the same thoughts every time I drive past certain places, do certain things or watch certain things. I drive past St Catherine’s Way to work every day and every day I think work is near St Catherine’s Way and I work with a Kat. Every single day!
  3. this one might be quite hard to explain but if I make a mistake I have to imagine (even if just for half a second) if that was right and what difference it would make to the world. For example if I typed tomofofe instead of tomorrow I would spend a few seconds thinking what if that’s how we spell it and how would we pronounce it. I do this pretty much constantly and it drives me bananas at times.
sashh · 08/11/2019 06:51

I count different colours, I used to do it with everything but now only when I watch TV.

SuperMeerkat · 08/11/2019 07:02

@PearlsBeforeWine You pee for 20 seconds 😱

PearlsBeforeWine · 08/11/2019 07:33

@supermeerkat

Is that wierd? 22 seconds is my standard massive wee. preens

15 is normal wee..

PearlsBeforeWine · 08/11/2019 07:37

@bethanygilbert

I give the names.. Normally incorporating the last 3 letters.. We live rurally so I often pass the cars. Loads of PN15 which causes much mirth..

FrappeLatte · 08/11/2019 07:51

The counting thing could be OCD related!

Giraffecantdanse I do this too! Always plan what I’d say about my latest dilemma and then ‘re-write’ it several times until I’m happy with it... sometimes I imagine responses and plan my reply. Very rarely do I post it though.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 08/11/2019 07:52

I do this. Must be the same style and colour peg for each item, none of this one red peg and one wooden one Hmm

I count steps, I check out my escape route from any room I’m in, I mentally trace round objects with my eyes to make sure that I can get all the way around its outline with nothing in the way, if not I'm uneasy.

I also play hopscotch on my kitchen floor tiles while the kettle is boiling.

This could save your life one day, so don’t feel bad about it.

As you were...

MurderOfGoths · 08/11/2019 08:00

Another one who has to have volume set to even numbers, though I make exceptions for multiples of 5.

If someone asks me to spell a word I have to mime writing it first.

I used to form words/ acronyms with license plates, but then I got a job where I looked at vehicle registrations all day and burned out on it.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 08/11/2019 08:06

@FrappeLatte good point! My grandad taught me to do that, he was a very shrewd man.

UnitedRoad · 08/11/2019 08:07

I count things too. My weirdest one is that I have to count and march when I’m brushing my teeth. Yes march. I have no idea why

Also when I dry myself after a shower I sing a song by Depeche Mode (Cleeeean, the cleanest I’ve beeen).

I need glasses for distance, but always put them on to answer the phone, or if someone wants to talk to me. It’s like I can’t concentrate on what someone’s saying without wearing my glasses.

Samcro · 08/11/2019 08:08

so glad to hear people talk to themselves. I always have. Dh has given up asking who I am talking to.

I love you @UnitedRoad

SeaViewBliss · 08/11/2019 08:27

When I’m at work, especially in meetings, I will write something but write all the letters on the same spot so that it’s unreadable. It is mainly when something or someone is annoying me. Just yesterday I wrote ‘shut the fuck up John you don’t know what you’re talking about and you’ve got a stupid tie on!

Sometimes I write whole paragraphs and make a hole in the paper.

It’s quite cathartic!

AngusThermopyle · 08/11/2019 08:29

Whenever i open a can of baked beans i HAVE to eat a spoonful before cooking them. No idea why i do it, it's like a kind of ritual thing, I've tried not doing it but I can't.

I also count! It started when i used to have to count spoonfuls of baby milk powder, i had four kids, all over 26+ now but i still bloody count all sorts of stuff and sometimes don't even realise until I've finished.

cravingmilkshake · 08/11/2019 08:39

Mine is so weird, when I'm a passenger in a car looking at trees/other inanimate objects, I say "on" until the next inanimate object where I then say "off" so basically, in my head I am saying "on off on off on off" constantly . BlushHmm

BustedDreams · 08/11/2019 08:43

@KenAdams I do the same. I’m almost apologetic when receiving parcels and give a blow by blow account of who ordered it and what the parcel contains. 🤦‍♀️ I’ve even been to know to apologise if it’s been raining and they’ve got wet coming to my home!

Honeybee85 · 08/11/2019 08:46

Whenever I bought something nice and cheap (clothes/make up) and somebody compliments me on it, I tell them proudly how cheaply I have gotten that particular item.

And I love softy touching the cat when she sleeps because she will meow like ‘grrrrr’ as a ‘hello/f*cl off human slave’ and I love that sound

KurriKurri · 08/11/2019 08:46

I talk to the dog as PP does, but I also answer for him - we have quite long conversations. He has a little boy's voice - and has a little speech impediment where he says a 'w' for an 'l', and he giggles all the time.
So it will go
me 'Hello favourite boy'
Him 'Hewo Mummy'
Me ' would you like your dinner?'
Him 'Wes wes I would, I hope it's chicken, I wove chicken' '

An having written that down it looks so crazy I can't believe I'm admitting to it. Grin

BustedDreams · 08/11/2019 08:48

@JigsawsAreInPieces if you were my neighbour I’d drive you crazy. I love being rebellious with my pegs! I love to mix them up and never have 2 the same side by side. Try it, it’s advised to do something every day that scares you Grin
