Does your workplace give a long service award?

Just that really.. do you get any acknowledgement at your workplace for long service of 5/10/20 years? If so, in what format: nice letter, cash bonus, vouchers, carriage clock etc?
DH has just (in the last year) completed 10 years with the same employer and there was no acknowledgment at all. I thought this was a bit sad - even a letter or card would have been appreciated. Although his direct line manager has changed a couple of times over the years, it's a big organisation so thought that HR would have it in hand.
But then I wondered that maybe it doesn't to matter to employers anymore?

Yes. After 20 years here staff are eligible for an extra couple if days holiday, and a nice certificate in a plastic frame. You do have to write to HR and remind them though, they don't track it themselves.

We get an extra 5 days annual leave after 5 years and a one off bonus of £150 after 25 years (civil service).

Yes. Unfortunately they are having to pare down their costs so the awards are just a certificate now. For 10 years service I got £200. For 15 years service a certificate. Although my HOD put her hand in her pocket to by us (there were 3 of us with 15 years service) a bottle of Prosecco each. I have a great boss.

Oh, and I get an extra day's leave.

I got no acknowledgement of 10 years. A colleague who has been there the same time got a bottle of wine, lunch and her desk decorated! I'm hardly ever in the office so it was totally overlooked. Never mind. So nothing official, just whatever takes the owner's fancy.

I’m in HE and we get £200 in vouchers for M&S (or similar) for 20 years service.

After 25 years we get a bottle of champagne presented at a meeting...

HR didn't want to even do that. Saying long service awards are age discrimination.. miserable gits.

So no change of earning extra leaving etc

Extra day for each 5years then vouchers at 25.
DH - gets a certificate for every 5years how a company thinks that's worth anything is ridiculous

We get a gift worth about £70 after 10 years and 1k in vouchers of your choice - so tax free after 20 years. I've always taken it for granted but sounds like we do OK actually!

After 25 years service, yes. Can't remember what they do exactly.

I find it a bit odd that you'd expect anything after 10 years tbh. However, turnover is pretty low where I work, so ten years isn't anything special. I guess it's different in places where the workforce is more transient.

Vouchers at twenty-five years.

DH works in private sector and after every 5 years he gets 12 weeks paid holiday or 12 weeks extra pay.
I'm public sector and after 25 years I will get a gift to the value of £100 (which I have go buy myself and claim back the cost).

Personally, I think it’s a very fine line of drawing attention to the long service without basically incentivising it. We have a few people who have been here for 20+ years who aren’t particularly efficient and sort of just part of the furniture and if I was a business owner, I’d want to be seeing ambition and turnover in those cases.

My old employer - a gift (from a set booklet) at 5/10/15/20 years plus an invite to a formal lunch - all long service staff whatever length at same lunch.

At 25 years you would get a big perk (one weeks free stay at any hotel, hotel chain employer, in the world) plus the gift and dinner.

My current employer you get additional 5 days leave after 5 years.

Really annoyingly, when I was coming up to 10 they changed it to 15 ... then when I was coming up to 15 they changed it back to 10, so I didn't get anything until 20 years.

I don't think it's about incentivising people to stay in a direct sense - no one is going to pass up their dream job in another company for the sake of a few vouchers - it's more about lifting morale generally, just a nice thing to do.

Yes - you get a paid sabbatical at 5 and 10 years, with the one at 10 years being enhanced if you didn't take the one at 5. There's also a big celebratory lunch with the two founders of the company. Our industry has a high turnover of staff and it doesn't benefit our clients so they really celebrate longevity.

I had a slightly surreal function for all those who had reached 20, 30 or 40 (yes, really!) years during the previous 12 months, at which there were speeches, certificates and photos, plus a £100 John Lewis voucher.

DH (different employer) got a rather expensive watch which he never wears because it doesn't fit.

Yes for 5, 10 etc. I think its £100 for 5 and then increases. Also a paid for party if you want at 20 years.

No. You get a bit of a do after 40 years of service. At ten years you are still a newbie. I've been there 28 years.

I know of a lawyer who got a 2 month sabbatical after 20 years.
My sisters workplace has celebratory meals and gifts for 10 years as well as adding extra days holidays. (She works for not much more than NMW with v few perks so its prob not very costly for the company as very few staff stay that long!)
