Does your workplace give a long service award?

concernedforthefuture · 31/10/2019 07:13

Just that really.. do you get any acknowledgement at your workplace for long service of 5/10/20 years? If so, in what format: nice letter, cash bonus, vouchers, carriage clock Confused etc?
DH has just (in the last year) completed 10 years with the same employer and there was no acknowledgment at all. I thought this was a bit sad - even a letter or card would have been appreciated. Although his direct line manager has changed a couple of times over the years, it's a big organisation so thought that HR would have it in hand.
But then I wondered that maybe it doesn't to matter to employers anymore?

I got a medal after 22 years... for long service and good conduct Halo

bluebell1981 · 31/10/2019 11:07

Painting of the place after 25 years. Like you'd want a constant reminder at home of how you'd spent so much time at the hell hole Hmm

MirandaWest · 31/10/2019 11:08

Have just looked mine up

After 10 years you get 2 paid days off and £200 contribution to night out or week/end away

After 15 years it’s 2 days off and £300

After 20 years it’s a week off and £500

And you get that every 5 years after that

Why would you stay somewhere for so long if you hated it? Confused

MrsT1405 · 31/10/2019 11:34

Did 28 years at university, got a nice letter from HR when I retired early with ill health.

BlueThursday · 31/10/2019 11:36

You can choose something from a catalogue after 25 years. High street bank

Biancadelrioisback · 31/10/2019 11:37

After 2 years we get extra holiday, enhanced ma/paternity leave and a badge.
Every year after that is another days holiday, a card and a meal on the company

Gizlotsmum · 31/10/2019 11:38

Extra leave at 2 and 5 years, nothing anymore for 10,just done 15 years and got £150 to spend on a selection of things, including a concierge service if not on the prescribed list, and a badge, more for 20 and 40 years

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 31/10/2019 11:52

Not that I know of. But I work in a university and some people stay here for decades.

Gbarmy · 31/10/2019 11:56

NHS, we get extra leave at 5 & 10 years, and an awards dinner with hampers and certificates at 25 & 40 years

gemma19846 · 31/10/2019 13:49

Yes at 10 years we got a certificate, pen and paper weight then at 20 years you get something (something similar i imagine) and also extra days holidays each year

gemma19846 · 31/10/2019 13:50

Also they do long service meals/evenings too

Benes · 31/10/2019 13:53

Only after 25 years. There's a party and you get £250 to spend at certain outlets ( for jewellry and such like)

I wouldn't expect a big fuss for 10 years tbh.

blackteaplease · 31/10/2019 14:00

Ours is quite generous. £50 for 3 years. £100 plus a day off for 5 years and £500 plus a day off for 5 years. Not sure about 10. 25 years is a meal for your team and a week off.

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 31/10/2019 14:03

At 20 years, extra 5 days leave to be taken within 12 months and a little piece in the staff newsletter.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/10/2019 14:13

I work from home for a software company which has been through many mergers and acquisitions over the years so what they do has varied. At 20 years in, I was sent an iPod nano rather out of the blue - DH was very impressed. At 25 years I got a framed certificate and a choice from a rather odd US online catalog - not many things I'd have given houseroom to, items like male signet rings and watches, sentimental ornaments ... fortunately there was a nice Cross ballpoint and pencil set among the dross.

I'm not sure I got any acknowledgement at all other from my manager when I passed 30 years.

TheFlis12345 · 31/10/2019 14:17

A month paid sabbatical for 10 years, 2 months for 20 years etc.

starfishmummy · 31/10/2019 14:18

Also civil sevice, we could have a voucher to buy something to a certain value but lots of restrictions where from or type of thing. Other option was some extra leave as a one off. Never did get a certificate.

HunterAngel · 31/10/2019 14:21

Just got my 15 year service award. Thank you card, pin badge, personalised crystal cube and a gift card. Very nice!

IncyWincyGrownUp · 31/10/2019 14:34

My daughter plays for the youth orchestra in our city. When she leaves at 19 (having been there since she was 8) she’ll be entitled to a long service gift, usually a plaque and gift voucher.

I know it’s not comparable, but I think it’s quite lovely that they reward their dedication.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/10/2019 14:43

A month paid sabbatical for 10 years, 2 months for 20 years etc.

Oh wow, I wish!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/10/2019 14:45

We get an extra day of annual leave for every year we work there past 5 years.

MrsWombat · 31/10/2019 16:40

When I worked for local government it was an extra day leave every year after 5 years. When I worked for a supermarket after 5 years it was £100 extra every year in your December pay packet, which was probably spent back in the shop boosting the Christmas sales figures. HmmGrin I don't think they do that now.

Archway04 · 31/10/2019 21:15

We get 5 days leave after 5 years, used to get some small value vouchers think it was £100 for 20 yrs service but that was stopped many years ago, it's all part of the cuts in social services and it's classed as public money. A lot of people have worked for 30 years or more with no recognition.
