Does your workplace give a long service award?

Just that really.. do you get any acknowledgement at your workplace for long service of 5/10/20 years? If so, in what format: nice letter, cash bonus, vouchers, carriage clock Confused etc?
DH has just (in the last year) completed 10 years with the same employer and there was no acknowledgment at all. I thought this was a bit sad - even a letter or card would have been appreciated. Although his direct line manager has changed a couple of times over the years, it's a big organisation so thought that HR would have it in hand.
But then I wondered that maybe it doesn't to matter to employers anymore?

An extra 5 days leave after five years is extremely generous

SomethingSpecialzz · 31/10/2019 21:19

No absolutely nothing. And if you leave you’d only get a card and gift if you’d previously contributed to the staff social fund. One teacher at my school has been there since 1993 and it’s not been acknowledged in any way. When she retires she won’t get anything official from school unless she’s paid into the staff social fund. Friends/colleagues would of course buy her individual gifts.

I received £250 John Lewis vouchers and a framed certificate after 10 years service.

terriblyangryattimes · 31/10/2019 21:34

I had flowers and a gift card for both 10 and fifteen years. For 20/25/30 and so on team members are given a shoutout and gift at the annual conference.

AliceLittle · 31/10/2019 21:35

20 & 30 years. A dinner and a certificate.

GrapefruitGin · 31/10/2019 21:37

We receive recognition in form of a ‘medal’ type brooch, different colours for different lengths of service. I’d prefer extra leave Grin.

thenightsky · 31/10/2019 21:39

High Street vouchers of £100 for 20 years, £200 for 30 years. But you have to apply to HR months in advance.

I was granted the 20 year award, but when I applied for the 30 year award ten years later I was told I wasn't allowed to have both Confused I guess no one in our Trust EVER gets the 30 year then.

amusedbush · 31/10/2019 21:52

Yes, for 10/25/40 years service. There is a ceremony every year for everyone receiving an award and you get a gift voucher for £100ish I believe.

DH just hit ten years with Royal Mail and he got the smallest pin badge in a box. It’s hilarious and I’m trying to make him wear it everywhere Grin

TartanMarbled · 31/10/2019 22:09

25 years here. Ten years is nothing special.

MissCalamity · 31/10/2019 22:43

Yes, we get money for 10 years (£250) card & handshake 😁
Every 5 years from that the money goes up.
I've just received £375 for 15 years.

The company is 40 years old next year, I think there are a handful of employees who are nearing 40 years service as well!

adaline · 01/11/2019 07:09

The longer you work for the company, the more annual leave you get!

That's about it, though.

CanICelebrate · 01/11/2019 07:12

Yes after 10,15,20 and so on (private school)

Yeahnahyeah1 · 01/11/2019 07:14

Ha. Nothing. Someone left not so long ago after 55 years... our manager didn’t say a word before she left (earlier than the rest of us) and a director didn’t even come down to say goodbye.

BikeRunSki · 01/11/2019 07:16

Amazon vouchers - £200 after 20 years, £300 after 30 years, bit of a do after 40 years. Not sure if there any gift after 40 years.

Lower grades get an extra 2 day’s holiday after 10 years, but I started at a grade that gives me maximum leave anyway.

NotMeNoNo · 01/11/2019 07:19

We get a small silver gift (a kind of ornament) at 10 years. I was pleasantly surprised to get a gift of £1000 and a party in London for 25 years earlier this year.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 01/11/2019 07:23

I'm in Australia where you get long service leave after 10 years, you get eight and a bit weeks of paid leave! I think you can choose to get it paid out too. I've just completed 5 years and got morning tea with the CEO, a framed photo with a little plaque on it, a a beautiful set of glassware. Very happy with that!

SuperMeerkat · 01/11/2019 08:05

£250 vouchers after 25 years, £400 after 40 😬 NHS. Only 17 years to go 😆

Biancadelrioisback · 01/11/2019 08:30

I also got a cupcake for one year Grin

Aragog · 01/11/2019 08:47

School - none

Dh's law firm does. They get a financial bonus every 5 years, and they gain extra holiday days after x amount of time too.

And BIL's firm after x number of years they get an extra holiday that year to take an extended holiday- bil took a month off to visit Australia over Christmas with his family.
