Anyone else dread the clocks going back

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 26/10/2019 15:38

I hate it.
I loathe the long dark evenings. As the mornings get darker it means I go to and from work in the dark and no natural light in my workplace.
By February my energy levels and mood will have gone to shit
The nearer I get to menopause the worse it seems to get
Apols for the pity party
Anyone else join me on the
"No it isn't cosy it's fucking miserable " bench SadGrin

No sorry I love it.

I suffer with anxiety and it makes me feel safer and ‘wrapped up’. I sleep better, I rest and relax better and I’m an introvert so very happy to spend whole days at home. The summer always makes me feel like you have to be out and ‘making the most of it’. Yuck.

coldwarenigma · 26/10/2019 15:42

I'm in your camp OP....I dread clocks going back...

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 26/10/2019 15:43

Weird isn't it how different we all are
I find the darkness ups my anxiety by making me feel quite claustrophobic

I hate the dark evenings. It is tiring leaving work in pitch dark. I hate all this 'extra hour in bed' stuff. I have two small children. It wi not be an extra hour in bed, it will be several days of extra early wake ups.

frasersmummy · 26/10/2019 15:45

I hate the dark winter nights too.
I try to get out in the fresh air and daylight when I can at the weekend. Today its bright here so wrapped up sitting on my deck with my book
So by Monday I've seen daylight for a few hours.. Helps with the mood

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 26/10/2019 15:45

To be fair now that mine are teens the early wake ups from them is a thing of the past
My body clock is however utterly fucked so no doubt I will be awake at the crack of dawn Hmm

PsychoSmirk · 26/10/2019 15:48

I'm with you op. The dark makes me feel claustrophobic too.

PulpHorn · 26/10/2019 15:49

I agree....
It's tolerable to a point but come end of Dec-gah!
Hate the cold weather too

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 26/10/2019 15:49

I'm determined to try and get some vitamin d supplements this winter and get as much daylight as I can this side of Christmas in the hope I don't end up in a sorry state again come January

It is really weird! I guess that’s what makes life interesting Grin

tiajon · 26/10/2019 15:52

I love the dark evenings! Totally with you OP. 🍂🍁

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 26/10/2019 15:52

I can't wait, but I get up really early and we're all out the door by 7am. Anything that delays frozen windscreens and dark drives is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Can see its the opposite for anybody that needs to drive in the evening though.

tiajon · 26/10/2019 15:53

Sorry, not OP - meant to say totally agree with @GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

Morgan12 · 26/10/2019 15:53

Do the mornings not get lighter?

RavenLG · 26/10/2019 15:55

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat I feel exactly the same as you! I don’t feel as exposed in the dark and I blend in more. In summer I feel naked and people are staring (and I sweat all the time from my face even if I’m not hot in summer so it’s nice to not have that in winter too Grin)

wanderings · 26/10/2019 15:55

Lately the mornings have been so dark that I’m almost looking forward to the clocks changing. Yes, I know that later we’ll have the worst of both worlds.

fanniboz · 26/10/2019 15:55

I'm already dreading my dog waking me up at the new 6am demanding to be let downstairs to greet the night shifter at the door who won't even be home yet. She's already getting up too early! As for the dark evenings etc, I find it a bit grim and dreary but I generally like winter so I can't complain too much Brew

AnnaNimmity · 26/10/2019 15:57

Yes I really don’t like the darkness, the cold or the long nights.

I need to be in the sun!

It’s fine until Xmas because the run up is exciting, but after that? No

I’ve got vitamin D supplements too.

Kittykat93 · 26/10/2019 15:59

I have a 2 year old who will still get me up at the crack of dawn :( I'm dreading it

PumpkinKing · 26/10/2019 16:02

I'm with Georgie. Dark evenings, cosiness, no expectations of having to go out and "do things." I can just be at home under a blanket where I'm happiest!

Graphista · 26/10/2019 16:03

I get really confused every time there's a clock change and I feel like my family/friends get frustrated that I don't get it.

So...I'm gonna irritate you lot instead Grin

If the clocks are going back then that means 2am becomes 1am at 2am is that right? So actually if (not happening but hypotheticals) I had set an alarm on the sat for 9am Sunday with the clocks going back that means 9am becomes 8am so I'd "actually" be getting woken at 10 am hence the "extra hour in bed"?

And does it mean mornings become temporarily lighter earlier and evenings darker earlier?

Eg on my wee weather app it says today's sunset at 1751 so tomorrow sunset will be at 1651 ish?

I hope I've got that all right... then I have to bloody well work it all out in reverse in spring! Gah!

I'd rather we just had the same time all the time.

On the thread subject yes I dread because I don't bloody understand it!

But also I suffer from depression anyway and I'm worse in winter I hate the short days and less light.

Favourite season is spring, longer lighter days but not too hot like summer often is for me.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 26/10/2019 16:04

I don't think it helps that is pissed down for weeks here so I already feel gloomy before the long evenings even start

OP posts:
Graphista · 26/10/2019 16:04

I also hate that for the first day or two I'm not completely confident the time on my tech is accurate and end up checking by things like seeing when live tv shows start

FlamingoAndJohn · 26/10/2019 16:07

But the evenings would be getting darker regardless of the clocks changing.

Yes it means that there is a sudden change but even if we didn’t change them it would still be dark by 5pm in the middle of winter.

And BST is not the ‘real’ time. What we are changing the clocks to tonight is.
