Anyone else dread the clocks going back

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 26/10/2019 15:38

I hate it.
I loathe the long dark evenings. As the mornings get darker it means I go to and from work in the dark and no natural light in my workplace.
By February my energy levels and mood will have gone to shit
The nearer I get to menopause the worse it seems to get
Apols for the pity party
Anyone else join me on the
"No it isn't cosy it's fucking miserable " bench SadGrin

Love it! It’s lighter when I arrive at work now and I do love the darker nights. My kids might actually go to sleep at a reasonable time now that it’s darker earlier Grin

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 27/10/2019 10:23

I love it and wished they kept it on GMT. Faffing about changing time.

FluffytheGoldfish · 27/10/2019 11:15

With the clock change sunrise in Glagow (so not that far north by Scotland standards) on 11th of November will be at 7.44 am and on the 23rd of December it will be 8.47 am. If we didn't switch back to GMT those times would be 8.44 and 9.47. So for almost 3 months the sun would not be up until after the start of the school day. Very grim.

Normally I hate it and manage to chivvy myself along until new year BUT I'm getting married 1st Feb next year then off to Sri Lanka on honeymoon. I'm so excited. Everybody thought we were bonkers having a winter wedding but hopefully it'll brighten up the endless cold dark days for this winter at least Grin

Rockbird · 27/10/2019 11:22

Love it love it love it. This is my time now.

Dongdingdong · 27/10/2019 11:24

The EU have now voted to scrap it, so if we stay in the EU, the clocks going back/forward won’t be happening for much longer.

Delatron · 27/10/2019 11:51

That does sound grim fluffy and I guess it’s true we can’t find extra light in the day when there is a little.

There’s another thread for all those suffering which doesn’t have the cosy, snuggling brigade chipping in about how much they love the endless dark and cold and how alive they feel in their pjs....

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/10/2019 12:09

@delatron indeed there is
I'm on that thread and am glad to find kindred spirits
Happy for the snuggle blanket bunch but really don't need to keep hearing about it

Can't abide winter. But I enjoyed the extra hour I got today to do my jobs and enjoy the lovely sun (yes, up at 7am old time).

I could do with an extra hour every week really.

Ginfordinner · 27/10/2019 13:28

Can you link to the thread @Delatron

The winter lovers go on about hating being hot, yet they extol the virtues of snuggling under a blanket with a hot chocolate. The irony.

I take back what i said on here yesterday, my son who literally never gets up and you have a full on battle every morning, woke up at 05.15AM!!!!! Confused

So much for an extra hours sleep!

You are confusing hot and warm.
I hate being hot but I love being warm.

Confuseddotcotton · 27/10/2019 15:35

I find it easier to relax in the evenings when it is dark, and being very fair, get fed up of days on end of sunny weather, for no other reason than feeling endlessly sticky from the sun cream!

But, this summer has been generally shit, rainy, damp, grizzly weather.

A month or so of light, bright, dry, cold weather would be great, and would compensate for the shorter days.

Days like we have had today, in London, are glorious.

ExpletiveDEVILighted · 27/10/2019 15:40

Yes, I agree. Far easier to warm up when its chilly than cool down when its hot. I do hate the dark evenings though, they feel claustrophobic to me.

OneToughMudderFudder · 27/10/2019 17:39

I love it but I also love spring and summer too. It'd get very tedious if it was light and warm all the time, or cold and dark. That's why I couldn't live in a tropical climate. I enjoy the changing seasons but I'm an old gimmer and I appreciate all the time I have left on earth!

I definitely prefer cold and crisp to damp and foggy though. Don't mind the short days.

Ginfordinner · 27/10/2019 18:02

If we had the autumn and winter days that are romanticised on here I wouldn't mind them either. Unfortunately the reality is the kind of weather we have had recently - damp, wet, low light levels and bloody miserable. Although today was cold, the bright sunlight more than made up for it, but days like this are as rare as hen's teeth where I live.

ExpletiveDEVILighted · 27/10/2019 18:05

It was glorious today, a bit chilly in the shade, but very warm in the sun, we had lunch outside without needing coats. We've been getting a couple of sunny days a week in the last few weeks, not too bad.

Ginfordinner · 27/10/2019 18:24

We haven't, and most of the country haven't according to our local weathermann.

Delatron · 27/10/2019 18:26

It’s been raining constantly and the odd sunny day really doesn’t make up for that.

Lots of places round here on flood alert with events cancelled for ‘safety’. So I do think it has been that bad.

shinynewapple · 27/10/2019 18:29

I'm grateful to have a few more lighter mornings as I really struggle to wake up in the dark. Have considered one of those dawn light alarms but DH is shift worker so that wouldn't work.

I don't like it dark in the evening though. In the summer I am happy to walk the dog 9, 9.30 at night but come the autumn I want to do nothing more than sit on the sofa. I don't like driving in the dark either. I'm lucky that I work part time so generally back home around 3.30. And will definitely be taking dog out at that time over next few weeks as darkness means fireworks.

DrCoconut · 27/10/2019 19:07

It sucks. Hate autumn and winter. Cold, damp, dark, everyone ill all the time, stuck in the house a lot because of cold/rain/dark, poor light levels, depression, scraping ice off the car in the semi dark to go to school run and work, DS's asthma and autism exacerbated, ugly itchy suffocating clothes that look frumpy and add lbs, cold, dark, did I say cold and dark? Grin It's awful and "cosy" lovers can't understand SAD at all or they wouldn't think a few orange leaves or hot chocolate (that you can buy all year round) makes it all OK (I know there are exceptions before you all attack me hygge books). My car broke down yesterday, would have been so much better waiting for the AA with DC in daylight and warmth rather than lashing rain and near freezing temperatures and dark. I have tried to find the positive in all the seasons but I can't find anything to like between October and March weather wise. Just hoping it's not another harsh winter like the last one. The DC filled an inflatable paddling pool to try and make a giant ice cube, the resulting ice disk was over an inch thick and they rolled it round the yard.

Ginfordinner · 27/10/2019 19:32

Last winter was very mild. The one before was hideous with many visitations from the beast from the East.
