Anyone else dread the clocks going back

I hate it.
I loathe the long dark evenings. As the mornings get darker it means I go to and from work in the dark and no natural light in my workplace.
By February my energy levels and mood will have gone to shit
The nearer I get to menopause the worse it seems to get
Apols for the pity party
Anyone else join me on the
"No it isn't cosy it's fucking miserable " bench SadGrin

I've had a lovely walk in the sun and eaten a spicy curry
Am going to order some vitamins
Determined this will be a better winter

I am one of those who hates the heat and enjoys Autumn (not so much full on Winter). I look at the things the summer loving poster talk about enjoying and it really isn't my kind of thing so I can understand that those who dislike Autumn probably feel the same about Autumn activities.

Good on you for trying to make the best of it though, I hope it helps.

Ginfordinner · 27/10/2019 20:33

Have you honestly been enjoying the miserable, wet weather we have been having Oddboots?

Shooturlocalmethdealer · 27/10/2019 20:35

I love it! I love the cold also. I hate spring and summer. Guess I'm an odd one.

OddBoots · 27/10/2019 21:19

Yes, it is so much nicer than feeling hot, sticky and tired from being unable to sleep. I have a good coat and boots so I have been out and about regardless of weather pretty much all weekend. I didn't even need to coat today, I could happily scrunch through golden leaves.

Now when it gets icey I won't like that. My favourite seasons in order are spring, autumn, winter, summer.

safariboot · 27/10/2019 22:28

But, this summer has been generally shit, rainy, damp, grizzly weather.

Except for the record-breaking heatwave in July. And the one in June too. Of course depending on your point of view those qualify as "shit weather". There was quite a lot of rain this summer but the sun was out in force too.

PickAChew · 27/10/2019 22:30

The mornings would be even darker if the clocks didn't go back.

Ginfordinner · 27/10/2019 22:33

safariboot apart from July, a couple of days in June and August bank holiday the summer was generally disappointing for many of us.

SunshineAngel · 27/10/2019 22:35

I hate it too. I have depression and anxiety anyway. It's manageable through healthy habits for the rest of the year, but in the winter it's just ridiculous. I get tired, down, snappy, I'm a nightmare to live with.

I have tried SAD lamps, getting out more.. but tbh it doesn't help. If the outside is miserable, so am I.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 28/10/2019 07:18

Feel like screaming to some posters on here
It's not about the temperature I am indeed a grown adult who remembers to wear a coat
It is the lack of light over several months that has a huge impact on people's mood and energy
If it was just about being warm enough I'd put on another jumper
Jeeze
I'm up early today and the sun is shining
Off to the beach for a few days and boy am I going to try and make the most of every minute of sunshine and daylight
And I'll wear a jumper if it's cold honest Wink

Ginfordinner · 28/10/2019 07:20

I agree. I have the right clothes for cold weather, but low light levels really make me feel gloomy.

Delatron · 28/10/2019 07:37

June was shit, there was no ‘record breaking heatwave’ maybe you are thinking of last year? There was one random day of 30+ on Saturday 29th June, then the temperature dropped by over 10 degrees the next day.

July was better yes but there was only one ‘Record breaking’ day and that was the first day of the summer holidays. The rest of August was disappointing until the last week around the bank holiday. I know this as I track the weather for my job.

So not a hot and sunny summer at all. Especially in June and August. So that left about 3 weeks in July which were nice.

Delatron · 28/10/2019 07:40

Yes it’s subjective if you want an unpredictable and average summer with lots of rain then yes you’d be happy. If you hate summer and the heat then you didn’t do too badly this year.

If you actually wanted some sunshine and consistent warmth, especially the 6 weeks the kids were off then it was disappointing.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 28/10/2019 08:48

This summer was shit
Last summer was the scorcher

ExpletiveDEVILighted · 28/10/2019 09:19

I agree its not about the temperatures but the daylight, I'm a heat-hater (summer 2018 was horrendous for me) but no matter what the weather in summer I love, love, love the long hours of daylight and hate it getting dark early in winter.

OldEvilOwl · 28/10/2019 09:21

I don't give it much thought to be honest, just get on with it really

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 28/10/2019 09:40

I love the seasons. I’m sleeping so much better since it’s got colder and darker. I’m in the south and today is beautiful, cold and crisp. When it’s dark, rainy and gloomy I get my wet walking gear on and take the dogs out, I feel better for it, the fresh air is good for the soul in any weather. I love getting home and lighting a fire and making the house cosy and inviting. I still do the outdoorsy things I’ve always done, I still ride my horse and go running, it’s all about having the appropriate gear.

I’ve got a cover for my windscreen so no scraping the car in the mornings and a lovely cosy coat that I enjoy wearing on my commute (car, train and tube). I’ve got a sad lamp which I have at my desk and take a strong vit D. I do all I can and try and embrace the change, no one likes the damp, dark and dreary days Including me but moaning about it and getting pissed off with those who try and take a positive slant on it isn’t going to make you feel any better.

Delatron · 28/10/2019 12:31

So like those who moan about hot sunny days then? Shall we pop on to their thread and tell them to ‘get on with it and stop moaning?’.

That would go some well!

Delatron · 28/10/2019 12:31

Down well.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 28/10/2019 12:48

Oh ffs
Silly me all these years of struggling with depleted energy levels, anxiety, poor sleep
Etc etc
All I needed todo was cop on a positive mental attitude
Duh who knew
Hmm

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 28/10/2019 12:49

And FYI I am using this and the other thread to keep myself positive and pick up tips/coping strategies
Jeeze there's twats everywhere these days

It's about light for me too. I don't mind quite hot weather actually but can't bear the dark. And no amount of hygge shit is going to change that!

I'm going to go for a SAD light though and am looking at booking a holiday in January.

Lovely sunny day today here and I went out for a dog walk this morning which really helped.

verticality · 28/10/2019 12:54

I'm with you - I absolutely HATE the lack of light.

The only way I can get through the winter is by taking additional vitamin D and using a light box and trying to get outside in the sunshine whenever I can, even if it means working a bit later in the evening. If I can get away somewhere light in January, that often helps.

JaneJeffer · 28/10/2019 13:23
