I have a mixer and food processor. Saved up for them both, coveted then for years but use them for bugger all!

I hear people say they use theirs all the time but for WHAT?

This week so far - large sponge, 2 batches biscuits, 4 batches play dough for toddler group.
Planned for rest of week - crumble topping, another 2 batches biscuits and more play dough (family staying so treat food and activity required. )

I have the kitchen aid I wanted for years. It likes to sit on my worktop looking nice

PlaymobilPirate · 24/10/2019 23:48

I've genuinely never made biscuits! I'm 41 years old and love biscuits too! Blush

I literally make cupcakes with the mixer and blend soup with the processor.

I last used my processor (blender) for soup, a couple of days ago.

I last used my fancy-pants mixer for a cake - um. about a month ago.

That's probably about all I use them for if I'm honest. I don't use them nearly as much as thought I would. I make yorkshire puddings every sunday, but don't bother with the fancy pants mixer - just hand whisk in a bowl. It's easier Grin

The banana cakes we made last weekend, we didn't even use the fanc pants mixer for - it was a bowl & wooden spoon type recipe Confused

They do look v nice in my kitchen though...

Use processor loads in warmer weather to grate carrots etc. for coleslaw. I also do a lot of bulk cooking and slice veg in processor.

Whisk eggs for meringue, make buttercream icing, make pastry on a regular basis too. I like baking and often have hoarded of hungry students to feed. DD also loves baking and often takes a batch of biscuits to school or youth group.

Make bread sometimes using dough hook, not as frequently as above though.

notacooldad · 24/10/2019 23:54

DH used the mixer the other night for lots of different things, tea loaf, fruit slices, eccles cake and cheese and onion pie.
I used the blender for tomato sauce last night although I tend to use the stick blender usually.

PandaG · 24/10/2019 23:54

Biscuits v easy. Annabel Karmel cookies, think you can find recipe on line.

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 24/10/2019 23:57

I make cakes and biscuits all the time. Get a Mary Berrry book and just work your way through it! Every recipe works like a dream.

Christmas is coming up, that’s PRIME baking season. You’ll need to make your cake soon so there’s your first job. Then biscuits to decorate and hang on the tree. Gingerbread houses. A chocolate log...

AthollPlace · 25/10/2019 00:05

I only use the mixer for time consuming things I can’t be arsed to do by hand, like whipping eggs for meringue. I actually can’t think of anything else I use it for! In most cases it’s easier to use a hand whisk or stick blender and chuck it in the dishwasher.

theoldtrout01876 · 25/10/2019 00:05

My mixer I use a lot for making bread, dough hook takes all the work out of kneading. I make cakes in it too. In fact last thing was my Christmas cake last weekend. I have made meringues in it and bagel dough. Makes the best butter in like 10 mins. Gingerbread and cheesecake mix. All effort free
My processor, I couldnt live without it. Any time Im doing large volumes of stuff I use that. Grate cheese, chop onions and peppers, grate carrots. It makes fabulous short crust pastry too. I used to use it to mince meat too, until I bought a grinder. Home made breadcrumbs ( then I bag and freeze them). Suet, have you ever tried hand grating suet, omg, this does it in seconds without it going sticky. Cauliflower rice, few seconds in there and its a fraction of the cost of buying it ready done, coleslaw done in seconds. God I love it.
I have to say though I bought a stick blender for soups, works great and saves faffin around pouring over hot soup.
Oh and hummus, huge quantities at a fraction of the cost of buying ready made and it literally takes 10 mins, my family eat a lot of the stuff
You are limited only by your culinary imagination Grin

Processer: used almost daily. This week for chopping onions, making pumpkin puree and pesto. I also have a blender in use regularly for soups and smoothies. The processor is great as it fits in the dishwasher and chops better than the blender.

Mixer: Bread 2 weeks back. But also brownies and cakes when there's a special occasion. Even though it's used less it's worth it as I wouldn't ever bake without a mixer since I hate hand mixing.

I do have a George Foreman type grill and a slow cooker gaining dust though.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 25/10/2019 02:18

I got rid of my fancy mixer and bought a thermomix instead which I use for everything, I love it like a child. Grin

Starstruck2020 · 25/10/2019 02:33

I have a few attachments for my kitchen aid. Spirilised a zucchini, carrot and apple with it a few days ago.

ConstanzaAndSalieri · 25/10/2019 02:37

Made a cake yesterday and bread (pizza) dough on Sunday. Blended soup in my food processor last week.

FridalovesDiego · 25/10/2019 02:53

My DH uses the kitchenaid all the time, but rarely as a mixer, usually with an overpriced attachment. He makes pasta, stuffs sausages, grinds meat, makes ice cream, etc.
I occasionally use the big bowl to store shite I find on the counters.

UserX · 25/10/2019 03:32

Mixer for cakes & biscuits. Food processor for pastry, pesto, any kind of spice/oil mixture, grating...

Aquamarine1029 · 25/10/2019 03:50

I use my mixer a lot. The last thing I made was pizza dough.

Erismorn · 25/10/2019 05:07

Mixer was butterfly cakes a few days ago. Normally gets heavy use for baking, but I'm currently 40+3 with DD2 and can't do as much due to an inability to reach the worktop comfortably.

Blender/food processor was used over last week for mincing carrot and onion for a spag bol, breadcrumbs for some coated chicken, fancy grinder thing for price grinding and making a big pot of kachumbar.

DryHeave · 25/10/2019 05:11

Used my mixer most recently to make mashed potato. Potatoes in pressure cooker, then beaten in the mixer. Smoothest mash on earth.

MaidenMotherCrone · 25/10/2019 05:14

Italian meringue buttercream and the cakes it covered.

Bread and more cakes tomorrow.

cultkid · 25/10/2019 05:31

You can make bread and knead it in the mixer
I do cakes 2 times a week
Biscuits
Meringue

PirateWeasel · 25/10/2019 07:44

I have ALWAYS wanted both a mixer and a processor but my kitchen is tiny. Are there two-in-one type things available, does anyone know?

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 25/10/2019 07:51

Humous! I'm stunned at the prices people pay for a little pot of it!
Pasta sauce
Garlic. Bloody hate chopping that stuff, takes forever. 10 seconds in the machine and enough for several days!
Soup

I love my mixer. It's a hand me down from ILs but it's been excellent for 5 years and shows no sign of problems.
