How would you pronounce my baby name

My little girl is called Mia but people are saying it differently and it’s really annoying me! I pronounce it Mia as in mee-ah but she keeps getting calling mya, she’s only 10 days old and it’s putting me off it to the point of changing it.

I don’t think people would be shocked if I did change it because I’ve voiced my doubt of it from the day after we picked it, and I’ve cried over it nearly every day, sounds silly but when I was pregnant I thought of her as Evie so it’s hard to adjust

My default with that spelling would be Mee-ah but you WILL spend your entire life correcting people.
Are you ready for that?

Your baby's name has to be something you both agree on. Sit DH down and say you're not happy how people are pronouncing it wrong, and given that he doesn't like the name you love, you both need to go back to the drawing board and find a name you both love. 10 days is nothing and sod other people if they've had things printed with that name......... this is the rest of your life you're going to use this name.

And congratulations Flowers

If you don't like it do change it before registering..

You will regret it if you don't change

Would pronounce Mee-ah. Prefer Evie though.

Why not use Mia as a middle name and change her forename? It’s a fine time to do it as you haven’t registered her yet.

Mee-ah

I’ve never heard it pronounced My-ah. To me that name would be Maya/Maia

I would say how you pronounce it.

However I think issue is the name is not your first choice.

It will probably grate on you every time it is mispronounced. Being a reminder that second choice.

Not too late to change. I would talk to DH.

Why doesn't he like Evie? Would he do Eve, or Evelyn, Eva so you can shorten? With mia for middle name maybe.
Just call her what you want. all the royals have several different names

Me-a

People saying My-a clearly need grammar lessons as my is my so Mia can't be My-a

I think maya Angelou is may-a

DariaMorgendorffer · 20/10/2019 11:34

It's Mee-ya

Ginfordinner · 20/10/2019 11:35

Mee-ya here as well. The only Mias I know of pronounce it this way. TBH it would never occur to me to pronounce it Mya.

It's pronounced Ee-vee

I’d say My- ah. I know a few kids called this and most pronounced in the above way. I know one girl pronounced your way. She’s 9 and her mum is always correcting people’s pronunciation.

Me-a.

It's a lovely name and much nicer than Evie imo.

Oh OP that's heartbreaking to read. Your partner is being very cruel insisting on another name when your'e so upset about it. It's spoiling this new baby time for you. He's an arse.

I'd say my-ah but would change if I was corrected.

People have mispronounced my name all of my life so I suppose I am more forgiving.
