What do you still buy that you're convinced no one else still does?

Title may have been a slight exaggeration, but is there anything you continue to purchase ( be it groceries, cleaning products, home bits etc) that is maybe seen as outdated, useless, old fashioned or just generally unliked by the masses , that you continue to buy?

Mine is Fisherman's Friend. I love them but have never found anyone else who still buys them!

@YetAnotherSpartacus that's why I put the ?, he's only 6 so has never known it to be different and the wrapper says it only has the coal tar fragrance but he swears it stops his skin itching, Dove on the other hand doesn't.

PineappleTart · 15/10/2019 16:46

Meat paste - just occasionally as it reminds me of picnics as a child
Bar soap - much cleaner feeling and less waste
Proper cloths for cleaning
Advent candles - although these have made a bit of a comeback in recent years
Semolina
Butter beans

Di62 · 15/10/2019 16:49

Wright's coal tar soap.
Zoflora - though that's become really popular again recently.

Boireannachlaidir · 15/10/2019 16:51

This is my thread. I use a load of these things:

Bar soap (nice bars!)
Boxed washing powder
Dried scotch broth mix
Butter beans
Windolene
Soda crystals
Witch Hazel
Tinned pears
Crochet blankets

Lozz22 · 15/10/2019 16:52

@Scarlett555 I have the boil in the bag parsley sauce ones

MrsMoastyToasty · 15/10/2019 16:52

Vim or Ajax scouring powder. Many a burnt saucepan has been saved by those two products.

Fredastaireatemyjamsandwich · 15/10/2019 16:55

Sandwich spread. And meat paste. In white bread. I looked on Ocado for meat paste loads of times, then suddenly stumbled across it when looking for something else. Real comfort foods.

bringincrazyback · 15/10/2019 16:57

Pedestal mats. They seem to be associated with crocheted toilet roll covers these days. (No, I don't have one of those too. Grin )

The floor in front of the toilet just looks 'naked' to me without one.

bringincrazyback · 15/10/2019 16:58

Oh, and earlier I put some Angel Delight on the grocery order. Grin

sayhellotothelittlefella · 15/10/2019 17:00

Gravy browning!

Stravapalava · 15/10/2019 17:07

Bovril
Piccalilli

PulpPixie · 15/10/2019 17:09

I eat Lorne (Square) sausage but the stuff you get in England is nowhere near as nice as the Scottish stuff. When I’m up there, I go to the butchers and stock up.

MadisonAvenue · 15/10/2019 17:23

Princes fish paste, I had the tuna and mayo paste sandwich for lunch today.
Pears Soap for my face.
Parma Violets.

Does anyone remember those tiny violet sweets (violet cashews?) which used to come in a plastic box with a clear hinged lid? You could also get pastel coloured ones too which were sort of a perfume flavour.
Haven’t seen them for years and I loved the violet ones.

AlunWynsKnee · 15/10/2019 17:25

Gravy browning, hankies, fairy soap for collars, Brasso and witch hazel all in use here.
I use wintergreen on my chilblains.

@smemorata I buy my Euthymol in bulk online :)

bobstersmum · 15/10/2019 17:30

Frys cream chocolate, and poppets.
I make fish pie with those cod in butter sauce!

SomewhereInbetween1 · 15/10/2019 17:31

Every family gathering we have, boom, tinned fruit flan appears courtesy of my mum! 😂.

It wasn't until I was a teen that I realised not everyone knew the tasty delights that was tinned ham or part baked rolls!

Verily1 · 15/10/2019 17:32

bobstersmum · 15/10/2019 17:32

Skyejuly · 15/10/2019 17:38

I still buy hankies! I love them!

Bar soap. Imperial leather and soap.

Flannels.

Chicken pate spread

Nivea moisturiser

managedmis · 15/10/2019 17:39

I used to like Brain's Faggots, but they have been made more economical. Have a look at the ingredients list. "Rind" means "skin."

^^

You betcha Grin

MotherWol · 15/10/2019 17:40

I just remembered another one - we were up visiting FIL at the weekend, and the bakers (Birds, for Midlands Mnetters) had haslet and potted beef. Bought both for lunch and they were delicious!

CMOTDibbler · 15/10/2019 17:44

I used to love that sponge flan with tinned fruit and quick gel. It was the nearest thing my mum got to junk food.
I'm very partial to tinned fruit cocktail and evap or condensed milk, and the blancmange always comes out for the christmas trifle which also contains tinned strawberries.

BTW, bar soap is amazingly easy to make and you can choose exactly how it looks, smells, and what oils it contains. My ds makes it and it is far nicer than bought soap apart from the v expensive artisan sort

bumblingbovine49 · 15/10/2019 17:50

Tinned sardines
Tinned mackerel

SamBeckett · 15/10/2019 17:58

CMOTDibbler
Ooh please do tell , how do you make soap ?
A few more I have remembered,
Proper dish cloths
Flannels
I didn't realise people thought sandwich speed was old fashioned, I always have a jar in.

Wonkybanana · 15/10/2019 17:59

Sandwich spread (on white bread, butter and crunchy peanut butter)

The original pink Windolene cream. Yes it needs elbow grease, but none of the modern sprays get the windows as sparkling and smear free.
