What do you still buy that you're convinced no one else still does?

Title may have been a slight exaggeration, but is there anything you continue to purchase ( be it groceries, cleaning products, home bits etc) that is maybe seen as outdated, useless, old fashioned or just generally unliked by the masses , that you continue to buy?

Mine is Fisherman's Friend. I love them but have never found anyone else who still buys them!

Camp coffee. Makes the best iced coffee. I’m always convinced it’s about to be discontinued so I always make sure I have at least 5 bottles at any one time!

Anyone still enjoy a Cherry B. Also love cherry liqueur chocolates.

So many things on here I still use, soap, washing powder in boxes, cif, brasso, brillo pads.

In the winter love the slow cooker with oxtail, neck of lamb with lots of veg. and dumplings. mmmm..

OH eats tinned fish, the smell makes me heave. I must find some sandwich spread he has been asking for that as well.

WitsEnding · 16/10/2019 20:38

thanks!

Gileadisreal · 16/10/2019 20:41

Yardley Lily of The Valley soap. It makes me think of my nanna :)

HowlsMovingBungalow · 16/10/2019 20:42

Ooh I love a Cherry B - our Iceland stocks them around Christmas time.

MajesticWhine · 16/10/2019 20:47

Love this thread. Had forgotten about fish paste ❤️

Mummylin · 16/10/2019 20:47

I love old fashioned Zubes. I hate fisherman’s friends although dh loves them.
Salmon and shrimp paste, golden syrup, kippers are things I love to buy along with several other things in all these posts, oh and I also love Horlicks tablets which are no longer sold in shops but you can get them from amazon or eBay, I would eat them like sweets.

thisisthend · 16/10/2019 20:48

Primark £2 pants.

Earl Grey Tea.

What I feel sets me apart is that I don't buy much, rather than what I do buy. So many people BUY BUY BUY. Only recently just bought a smartphone and car(very reluctantly, out of necessity).

I would still be buying Force wheat flakes if they hadn't been discontinued. There used to be a Sunny Jim make-it-yourself doll offer on them and every time someone in our family became pregnant we had to eat more Force because my nan wanted to collect the tokens to make the doll for the new baby.

Force became very hard to get as it neared its demise around three or four years ago. I would phone around supermarkets and when I found one with Force I would drive several miles to buy a dozen or so boxes.

Incidentally, the Force slogan was, "High over the fence leaps Sunny Jim. Force is the food that raises him." Shock

stucknoue · 16/10/2019 20:55

Tinned pilchards, only the big supermarket has them now, ditto tapioca pudding

Redcrayons · 16/10/2019 20:57

Extra Strong mints and Brillo pads. Me and my mum are keeping them in business.

I’m adding boil in the bag cod and toast toppers to the shopping list. I didn’t know you could still buy them. Staple of my student days.

Wheat2Harvest · 16/10/2019 21:03

And another one, which is going to make me sound like a right dinosaur.

My Mum always used Reckitt's Bag Blue and I ended up using it too. It was a little white muslin bag containing some blue thing that you swirled around in your rinsing water when washing clothes. It make the water go blue (unsurprisingly) but got the whites really white.

Amazon sell a variation on it but it's not the same.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/10/2019 21:07

@Sundancer77 where do you get um bongo from?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 16/10/2019 21:09

Until recently Radio Times. My friend joked that they were printing it especially for me, the last subscriber on Earth!

willowmelangell · 16/10/2019 21:09

Another Kendall mint cake fan here. I bought 6 large bars recently and finished them off in a week. So yummy.

whattodo2019 · 16/10/2019 21:10

What are dried marrow fat peas????

PrivateSpidey · 16/10/2019 21:11

justasking111 M&S have got an offer on their cherry liqueurs at the mo - I think they're £2. I've held off getting them as I'm the only one who eats them in our house and I would just eat them all. I know I will get them eventually though

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/10/2019 21:11

@Blueracoon you can get it from Asda

Dried marrowfat peas make the best pea soup, after soaking them overnight with the little tablet they come with.
