I'm tagging along to IKEA tomorrow - never been. What do I NEED to buy? Small budget, I'm just going along for the experience Grin

The plants are good. Their stock of artificial plants seems to sadly be overtaking their real stock, but there's still some gems there.

feelinghelplesstoday · 12/10/2019 22:41

I bloody love ikea. Need to go soon as picked up the big 5 x 5 kallax for a snip on facebay but need 25 boxes for it now 😂😂.
Lovely towels and great quality cotton bedding @Ludos You get 4 matching pillow cases instead of measly 2-I'm easily pleased!!
Have a ball and don't forget your hotdog on the way out.
Sorry you've had a shitty time but Ikea will cheer you up. I remember the day after my ex husband finally left (ok was removed by the police) I did an Ikea trip with the kids and we bought a load of random brightly coloured shit he would have hated 😂

SweetPetrichor · 12/10/2019 22:48

The socktopus is a must have. Also, plants. We went a few days ago (live dead close so just go for a wander often) and got a gorgeous aloe vera, a succulent bowl, and a venus fly trap. I'm completely in love with my venus fly trap. It's like having a little pet! I love feeding it bugs.

Elphame · 12/10/2019 22:52

Nothing if you don't need it

PixieDustt · 12/10/2019 22:53

The meatballs and sauce 🤤
I usually go to Ikea at around 7pm cannot deal with it in the day time!

Chilledout11 · 12/10/2019 22:54

Plants
new drona boxes for kallax (lovely yellow one )

I love just going to look. Have a great day.

feelinghelplesstoday · 12/10/2019 23:05

@SweetPetrichor I bought a lovely aloe vera the last time I went but lost it before I got home 😂😂. Complete mystery 🤷🏻‍♀️

DonnaDarko · 12/10/2019 23:10

I rarely buy anything in IKEA but I will try out every single sofa and bed (DP hates going with me) so I recommend that 😂

goingtotown · 12/10/2019 23:13

I love Ikea but not at weekends, you’re braver than me to venture there on a Sunday.

BarbaraofSeville · 12/10/2019 23:13

I'm child free with friends - I'll gladly take crowds and queues

So am I but I don't do crowds and queues. Luckily I live within walking distance of ikea, so can go when I like but are there really people who have never been to ikea Confused.

LtJudyHopps · 12/10/2019 23:15

BlackberriesAndCream while I’ve never been to the lakeside Ikea I’m not far and will probably be at the shopping centre tomorrow! IKEA is just a roundabout or two away from the centre so not too much more driving.
Get there for when it opens and it will be fine. The intu centre is great, even when it’s busy it’s not too bad, there’s loads of parking. The worst bit is the food court if you want to eat it will be busy but manageable.

Flibbertyjibbit · 12/10/2019 23:16

I might have to visit our local IKEA midweek, we're only 5 miles away. Midweek means free coffee too! Brew

Enjoy your trip OP, have a look around the mock flats, sit on every sofa and people watch Grin

feelinghelplesstoday · 12/10/2019 23:20

@LtJudyHopps I bloody hate the food court at Lakeside. Hell on earth😱

Luaa · 12/10/2019 23:30

A vegetarian hotdog

BlackberriesAndCream · 12/10/2019 23:37

Thanks Judy. I can't get there when it opens, sadly, not til about 1pm, but maybe I'll wait til A week when I can go earlier, especially if it's rainy as that always seems to bring people out. I'm not so good with unknown junctions.

runoutofnamechanges · 12/10/2019 23:42

I think the trick with Ikea is what not to buy rather than what to buy! It's easy to blow £30 on an apple slicer, scented candles, tiny drawers, lightbulbs and some cheap fleece throws that you've got excited about because they are so cheap but not pick up the more expensive but still a bargain sheepskin rug or top of the range pillow protectors (that are amazing) because they seem expensive in comparison. Sometimes more is less. I am lusting after the Sonos X Ikea lamp/wireless speaker.

I would second the orchids as both cheap and amazing though. Pick up a cheap wicker basket in the storage section and 2 or 3 orchids, put them in the basket and cover with some florists moss and you have a display that my local flower shop would charge 10X as much for. The black papaya orchid pots also look great too.

If you are excited for the Christmas stuff, I love the paper star lanterns they have. Technically not in the Christmas range , but their LED candles inside the Skurar (not sure if that is the right spelling) metal cut out candle holders throw out beautiful dappled shadows and look fantastic around the house at Christmas. They also look lovely on the terrace amongst the plant pots in the summer.

But indulge in whatever you want, it sounds like you deserve it!

feelinghelplesstoday · 12/10/2019 23:48

@BlackberriesAndCream it's the same junction just a bit further over. Google Ikea lakeside and press directions and it will take you to the door x

LtJudyHopps · 12/10/2019 23:51

feelinghelplesstoday oh I love it! All the different food places is my idea of heaven! Blush I do like the restaurants though if I’m with DP

Butterfly02 · 12/10/2019 23:59

Scissors ✂ I never leave without a pack of 3!

Coconutbug · 13/10/2019 00:06

I can't believe you've never been to Ikea! I say this but I realise not everyone loves 15 minutes from one or even in the same city so probably take it for granted.
We used to go after a night of clubbing for breakfast before heading to sixth form as it was something silly like 99p with free tea/coffee.

It is good and bad at the same time. Great for a mooch around and I always love to try a dessert out in the cafe or an icecream/milkshake.
My go to things are candles, blankets (£4 bargain), jars for kitchen, plants are pretty cute, storage boxes. My favourite is to mooch around the markethall.
Their food section is pretty great also, love the boxes of biscuits!

Have fun!! Let us know what you find

WineIsMyCarb · 13/10/2019 00:16

Where's the shelf pic please?!

alltoomuchrightnow · 13/10/2019 00:28

Sunday is busier than Saturday because opening hours are squashed into a smaller time frame. I work there and have just got home from the shift from hell. Dreading doing it all again tomorrow. However....

I don't have time to read all the replies here (IKEA has worn me out ;) but my own favourites.... licorice, Fagen cinnamon mini rolls, swedish fish(sweeties not fish!), all the pick n mix, scented candles, Christmas gift wrap, Christmas light up gnomes freize, candy striped twine for presents, Nejlika v-shaped pillows, Pipstakra watercolourish duvet cover, Stravklint cushion cover (I need to check spelling on this but it goes with the Pipstakra), Segstarr throw, (actually scrap that, just read you are on a budget - it's £55! but the softest thing you will ever feel) , Gurli cushion covers (all the 50x50s are £1.75 each), Lattjo Viktor the Vampire toy (mine is on my bed right now! I don't have kids ;) ) star lanterns as mentioned, cuddly sharks, bright coloured storage boxes from Home Organisation, owl lamp, crocodile non slip bath mat (Patrull), Godmorgon bathroom storage holder thingy (avoid all Tisken like the plague.. does not stick), eyeball bathroom knob/hooks, xmas wreaths, art print (my recent purchase is very quirky featuring a giant butterfly with a man and woman), magnetic boards, oh also some shapeshifting art prints (man into wolf, etc)

alltoomuchrightnow · 13/10/2019 00:32

Succulents
Malinmaria polkadot red and white cushion
Sandtrisket bath mat
Biodegradable freezer bags
Big storage bags from Home Org

Butterymuffin · 13/10/2019 00:38

Meatballs and chips in the cafe. Make sure you get the cream sauce and lingonberries on it too. As long as you make time for that, you're good Smile

Egghead68 · 13/10/2019 00:43

Yes - head straight to the cafe first of all to fortify yourself and have meat/veggie balls and lots of green cake.

Then wander round and pick up lots of small things you fancy like kitchen utensils - lots of things are really cheap.

Have fun! I like going there with nothing specific to buy too.
