Which toys does your 9 year old boy play with?

DS does not really play with toys, but enjoys football. He has asked tonight for a toy that isn't Lego but does not know what exactly!

I thought I'd ask you what your 8/9/10 year old plays with for some inspiration to fill the weekend when he isn't playing footy....

None. He plays football and fortnite and might draw for a short while if hes on a fortnite break!

Tigresswoods · 06/10/2019 21:43

No toys as such. He's all about sports, clothes, accessories & games related stuff.

Morgan12 · 06/10/2019 21:46

Well my DS has just turned 8 and he only plays computer games. The hasn't played with toys for years. Fortnite, Minecraft and Lego games.

Train set (proper electric hornby type)
Gravitrax seem popular but don’t have one.
Board games like screwball scramble

Janus · 06/10/2019 21:51

Watching with interest as also have an 8 year old who only lives and breathes football! I am stumped for Christmas ideas that doesn’t involve football but mine has asked for a ‘trick scooter’ which isn’t a game but may keep him entertained in the garden??

ilovetofu · 06/10/2019 21:52

Sorry posted too early!

He loves whittling wood so likes getting Swiss Army knives to do that with & he likes camping/ bushcraft stuff... he likes archery & darts (magnetic ones)

He likes Lego still sometimes & loves creative things too... like origami.

Riding his bike... trampolining..., skateboarding....

And of course he likes screens whenever he's allowed to watch!

ilovetofu · 06/10/2019 21:52

Oh and in the garden he likes those tennis ball on a string things ... and badminton!

ilovetofu · 06/10/2019 21:53

Laser X here too 👍

Invisimamma · 06/10/2019 21:54

He really just likes football and PS4 and doesn't have much interest in toys. Cupboard full of science and activity sets that never get looked at.

He has hot wires sets which can keep him busy for a short time.

Trick yo-yo is getting a bit of attention atm but I imagine that will be short lived.

He also likes super cars and will spend a while reading top gear magazine or browsing auto trader.

ChildminderMum · 06/10/2019 21:55

Lego mostly
He also plays with the marble run and games like Jenga or board games and has a remote controlled robot thing
Draws and reads comics
He's out on his scooter/bike a lot and sometimes plays football
Lots of Minecraft and plays on the Wii too though!

dootball · 06/10/2019 21:56

Hexbugs?

Mine still loves hot-wheels too.

Maccano?

ChildminderMum · 06/10/2019 21:56

Nerf guns too

Watto1 · 06/10/2019 21:56

Ds loves board games. Junior monopoly is a big favourite at the moment. Also Uno and Bugs in the Kitchen.

10brokengreenbottles · 06/10/2019 21:57

Other than Lego and the Xbox and Nintendo switch my DS' play with nerf guns, football table, remote control car/helicopter/motorbike, scalextric. Not toys but board games, air fix models and jigsaws go down well too.

Outside DS' have a football rebounder and trampoline that they play with.

Shplot · 06/10/2019 21:57

This is so sad, my 9yo likes Minecraft and rarely plays with toys but I thought it was an issue with screens rather than his age. Is 9 really too old for toys?

PullingMySocksUp · 06/10/2019 21:58

Micro scalextric a bit. Cars a lot, but I don’t think that’s any help to you.
Electronics set maybe?

littlemisslozza · 06/10/2019 22:00

Beyblades are popular with my sons and their friends.

Anthilda · 06/10/2019 22:02

Nerf guns (fortnite guns) occasionally, captain America shield and thor hammer (basically just chucking them around and jumping off furniture), miniature cars from time to time. Mostly it's just playstation but hes still quite into the avengers things and has asked for some avengers stuff for christmas.

PhantomErik · 06/10/2019 22:04

My ds is 9 & plays with:

Lego
Harry Potter related items (wands etc)
Geomag / Magnext
Knex
Playmobil (less recently)
Drums
Guitar
Football/tennis
Xbox - skylanders/fifa/lego games
Puzzles - fidget cubes/snakes
Chess, Scrabble etc

longestlurkerever · 06/10/2019 22:04

I only have dds but boys that age come and play and they play with toys! Mostly imaginative games with my dd's Pokémon figures, lego, Playmobil, imaginex etc, marble run, craft stuff, fimo, slime making kit etc.

drspouse · 06/10/2019 22:06

Mine is younger but I can see harder jigsaw puzzles (the Djeco Observation ones are a cross between Where's Wally and a puzzle) and Snap Circuits lasting. He hasn't got all he can out of those yet.
Board games of course too - loads to choose from - I don't know if there are many that have a one player option though.

notso · 06/10/2019 22:08

My eight year old (9 in a couple of months) loves playing with,
Gravitrax,
Nerf nitro,
Nerf,
Playmobil,
Lego,
Cars,
Laser X,
Drawing,
20Q,
Bop It,
He likes playing the usual board games connect 4, battle ships, guess who etc
Outdoors he loves football and cricket.

Screen wise he loves watching films and crappy cartoons Gumball, Sponge Bob etc. We have a Switch that is rarely used after the initial excitement wore off at Christmas they used to have a Kindle which broke and hasn't been asked for since, at the weekend he's allowed to play games on the TV but honestly all games seem to affect his behaviour negatively so I really discourage them. I don't let them go on you tube at all either.

wejammin · 06/10/2019 22:08

My DS is very nearly 8, he likes magnatiles, brain putty, knex, remote control cars, bow and arrow set, tomtect, Pokémon and football cards. Uno and top trumps too.
