Which toys does your 9 year old boy play with?

DS does not really play with toys, but enjoys football. He has asked tonight for a toy that isn't Lego but does not know what exactly!

I thought I'd ask you what your 8/9/10 year old plays with for some inspiration to fill the weekend when he isn't playing footy....

Janus I think the range my son spotted in the Lego shop was called the Hidden Side.

My DS is 8 and loves Lego, glo tracks, k-nex and those magnetic sticks/shape things. He also likes drawing/crafts and activity books. Oh and board games!

Also he does get carried away playing when my younger DC has his brio train set out or play-doh so he definitely secretly still enjoys those types of activities!

DS1 wants the new technic Liebherr excavator, it's £££, he won't be getting it unless he saves pocket money for a very long time.

There's a new group of Lego sets called Hidden Side. DS3 got a couple of these sets recently. There's also an app controlled bat mobile.

You could also look at Lego Mindstorms and Lego Boost.

My 9yr old DS is into a lot of previously mentioned things. What hasn't been mentioned so far are Hama beads! He likes to look up examples of Super Mario type characters on the internet and then copy them. He made a lovely Kirby this week and some Yoshi eggs.

Outdoors, he still likes his big trampoline when his friends are over. I threw a huge inflatable water melon/ ball thing in there too and they like to knock each other over with it. Nerfs are also very popular and they roam the village shooting things/ themselves.

He is Nintendo/ Minecraft/ Roblox mad and I really try to break his activities and playdates up to include a balance of crafts/running about outside as well as the dreaded screen.

Stikbots have done well here (let him use an old phone to do the stop motion videos). Dominoes (often found cheap in charity shop)

Hexbugs - but awkward size of parts means they are hard to store here so I find them a pain

Thank you mmmcolacubes, found a haunted house Lego to use with the app, I think he’ll really like that!

My 8.5yo basically lives and breathes lego. But he also plays with -
Figures from bizarre tv shows - Robozuna & massive monster mayhem. His friends at school really enjoy those when they come here.
Hot wheels - tbh the bigger sets you need to be at least 8 to build on your own.
Harry potter related things.
