Chips beans & cheese

What goes on first, beans or cheese?

The peas or the gravy?

I remember years ago when I worked in a chip shop I tried to put gravy in the bottom of the tray before I put the chips in, then more gravy on top, as I hated getting to the bottom of the gravy chip and running out of gravy....but my boss stopped me!!

We're having a chippy tonight and I fancy chips beans & cheese but I'm wondering if beans or cheese on the chips first.....

Ps: we may have been in the pub an hour and had a spritzer or two so excuse any spelling mistakes... Wink

Chips then beans then cheese on top is surely the only way!

CleverQuacks · 05/10/2019 16:56

Beans first then cheese.

Gravy never goes with chips.

Now I want to go to the chippy.

OneMoreLight · 05/10/2019 16:56

Chips, cheese then beans. The beans melt the cheese onto the chips.

Paddingtonthebear · 05/10/2019 16:59

I have never heard of chip shops putting gravy and/or cheese on chips! Shock

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/10/2019 16:59

Chips beans cheese.

PancakeAndKeith · 05/10/2019 16:59

Gravy never goes with chips.

It does anywhere north of Manchester.

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/10/2019 16:59

Where do you buy your chips Paddington?

InsertFunnyUsername · 05/10/2019 17:00

Chips little bit of cheese beans then more cheese.

TheScruffyDog · 05/10/2019 17:03

Chips and gravy is standard! Chips, cheese and gravy is amazing. But a genuine taste sensation, is chips, cheese and sweet and sour sauce. Beans should never go near chips

Paddingtonthebear · 05/10/2019 17:04

Guess it’s regional then, I live south coast area!

MapMyMum · 05/10/2019 17:06

I used to always be a beans then chips kind of a woman, but I kept on getting disappointed by the cheese not reaching the chips/toast/ jacket spud properly so now I do a bit of both with the majority of the cheese under the beans and sprinkle on top for old times sake. I have a friend who mixes the cheese i to the beans which I may try one day!

Oh and gravy on chips is bloody divine!

MrsPear · 05/10/2019 17:06

Oh lord that takes me back to secondary - it was always chips, beans and cheese.

MapMyMum · 05/10/2019 17:07

Just to add I grew up down south and have moved abroad but gravy + chips, yes! Also curry sauce of chips..drool

EggysMom · 05/10/2019 17:08

For me, it's chips - cheese - beans, so that the beans melt the cheese (and it doesn't stick to the top of the eco-unfriendly polystyrene box). But a colleague has his the other way round, chips - beans - cheese because cheese is always a final topping.

It makes for fun trips to the chippy van near work.
"Two chips with beans and cheese please"
"Beans first or cheese first luv?"
"One one way, and one the other, thanks!"

Whatsnewpussyhat · 05/10/2019 17:09

The cheese and the gravy are toppings. So they go on last. On the top.

Except on a jacket when the cheese goes under the beans for extra meltiness.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 05/10/2019 17:10

Chips then loads of extra mature cheddar

NEVER beans. Beans should only be eaten with a full English or on a jacket potato they are not ok with chips

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/10/2019 17:10

Chips, beans, cheese.
Chips, peas, gravy.

DramaAlpaca · 05/10/2019 17:10

What a disgusting combination. And I'm a northerner who should be genetically programmed to like such things Wink

It's chips & curry sauce for me all the way, a delicacy I wasn't aware existed until a trip to Ireland.

Paddingtonthebear · 05/10/2019 17:11

Is this all with a portion of fish?

NerrSnerr · 05/10/2019 17:11

I have lived in Yorkshire, West Midlands, East Midlands and Gloucestershire and have had chips and gravy and cheesy chips in all of them.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/10/2019 17:12

Dd like chips, cheese and curry sauce.

CaptainHammer · 05/10/2019 17:13

Chips, cheese, beans then more cheese obviously!

weeblefeet · 05/10/2019 17:13

Gravy always goes on chips, as does curry sauce. Standard school dinner back in the day was chips, cheese and gravy and a choc ice for afters !
