Really useful SMALL kitchen gadgets?

FurrySlipperBoots · 05/10/2019 14:34

Help me out would you Mumsnet? I'm wanting stocking filler suggestions of little kitchen gadgets. What can't you do without when you're cooking? Looking for ideas for both 'essentials' and quirky novelty things that are fun but will actually get used.

Not for cooking, but this has become an essential for sandwich making!

Top of the list for me is a garlic press.

How about a novelty pizza cutter?

yaduronronron · 05/10/2019 14:44

I've got a handheld spiraliser from Lakeland that's great.
Mini 'supoons' from DreamFarm
Metal straws (maybe not really a gadget)
Nice chopsticks
Silicone ice cube trays
Carbon water filters that look lovely in a glass bottle in the fridge

Mini spatulas - so useful for getting last bits out of jars
Cake testers - you can use a skewer obvs but they’re cute and small
Micro plane graters- could not be without mine

nailslikeknives · 05/10/2019 14:54

How about a spoon rest?

milliefiori · 05/10/2019 14:54

Y shaped veggie peelers. Sleek and easy to use. Nutmeg grater. Pizza cutter.

I love the sound of those mini spatulas @CRbear. Any brand you'd recommend?

milveycrohn · 05/10/2019 15:02

The cheese slicer, the first reply suggested, is a gadget I cannot do without, and I use it for everything, as well as slicing cheese.
Otherwise, measuring spoons, and a recent favourite is the strawberry huller, from Lakeland.
I tried a similar egg poacher, (see earlier reply) but dont use it.
A recent buy is a cherry stoner, due to the cherry tree in the garden.

My favourite to make hot chocolate. I had a Velvetiser but gave it away and this is much better

Mini dustpan and brush for worktop - find mine really handy.

redredrobins · 05/10/2019 15:09

Jar key, release vacuum in jars and make them much easier to open. No more asking DH to open jars for me Smile

PrincessSarene · 05/10/2019 15:14

Thermapen? No more guessing if chicken/sausages etc. are cooked through. Might be a bit pricey for a stocking filler though.

Fish tweezers for pin boning?

mateysmum · 05/10/2019 15:14

This knife sharpener is great. Sticks to the worktop, so really handy.

Wine bottle stoppers. I like the lever style ones with a rubber ring or the champagne ones with a metal clamp to keep the bubbles in. The conical metal ones with fancy tops never seem to work, though.
And you can never have too many klippits.
Sundae spoons aren’t very special but I much prefer them to short handled teaspoons.
What about those toast stencils that stamp messages into your bread?I’d love toast wishing me “Good Morning” every day!

If the gift recipient likes making jams and chutneys or anything that needs stirring and heating to a specific temperature, this is brilliant. It has transformed my jam making!

Search eBay for dinosaur soup ladle. They also stand up by themselves on a saucer by the cooker, or in the pan!

These little mini spatulas are my most essential! So many uses, from getting the contents out of the bottom of the jar to quickly cleaning a roasting pan. And may things in-between. In use daily in my kitchen.
