What do you do with skid marks that are below the water line? 🤔

@FurrySlipperBoots I have one of these - www.josephjoseph.com/en-gb/flex-steel-toilet-brush Ssshhh, don't tell the toilet brush haters upthread!

fruitpastille · 01/10/2019 19:11

Is anyone else just scrolling through to read @barearsedloverofthigh 's posts and ignoring all the others?

Ticklemeelmo · 01/10/2019 19:29

Ewww to wiping it off with a cloth Confused

Just replace the toilet brush regularly, does this explain why so many people leave horrible skid marks in public toilets?

OooErMissus · 01/10/2019 20:04

There is not one suggestion on this thread that is even vaguely preferable to a loo brush that is cleaned after every use.

And I am more convinced than ever that the anti-brush brigade lead insular lives, with no-one ever passing their threshold, so it's never even occurred to them to worry about inconveniencing / embarrassing guests.

MaryBerriesNiece · 01/10/2019 20:34

My cleaner takes care of any and all chores! I don’t think I’ve cleaned the toilet in three years!

This has to be a joke. Surely no normal person leaves their shit in a toilet for their cleaner? If it is true it’s disgusting and fucking lazy.

OooErMissus · 01/10/2019 20:47

The cleaner must, surely come every day. It doesn't make it any less feral, but would explain how a (feral) person might not have cleaned their own loo in three years.

🤢

TheNoodlesIncident · 01/10/2019 22:05

MaryBerriesNiece and other PPs...

DSis is a cleaner and I can confirm from her tales of horror that yes, people actually DO leave their shit streaks for the cleaner to remove. Sometimes they don't flush their lavatories and leave water bourbons bobbing about in there too...

I can't ever forget her saying about the elderly man who had had the squits the week before, and left shit spatter up the tiled walls for the cleaners to remove. Imagine walking into your bathroom for a pee all those times, standing there seeing your diarrhoea spray over the walls and thinking, "Yes, be glad when the women turn up next week to deal with that."

There have also been blood curdling stories about period pants left in the middle of the floor and other grimness, but best to stick to manky toilets

barearsedloverofthigh · 01/10/2019 23:59

I make a point of asking my house guests to shit before they come round to avoid their embarrassment in leaving skid marks down our toilet.

PrimalLass · 02/10/2019 07:15

Toilet brush haters, please don't embarrass guests by providing no sensible means to clean up after themselves. I'm not putting my hand in my toilets, I'm not putting it in anyone elses loo either!

Nope. Not having a toilet brush for the very rare occasion that someone else poos in my house. They can chuck bleach down and reflush.

Snowy111 · 02/10/2019 08:07

Noodles that’s not nice for the cleaner but, having cared for elderly parents, I know that sometimes as people get older they really don’t have the energy (or eyesight) to deal with these things. Especially after a bout of diarrhoeaSad

Delatron · 02/10/2019 13:27

Always check for skid marks before the cleaner comes. I’d hate her to be scrubbing those off.

Now surely nobody would leave period pants out on purpose. Must have been an accident.

I don’t think you can expect guests to be hunting around for cleaning stuff and bleach. (I would never just leave bleach out). Maybe a guest loo brush is a good idea?

I just keep replacing loo brushes constantly but I don’t really like them I just struggle with the alternatives and haven’t seen any great/better ideas on here!

ilovetofu · 02/10/2019 15:00

You can't leave skid marks for your cleaner!!!!

OooErMissus · 02/10/2019 18:40

Loo brushes aren't perfect, but they're better than anything else that's been suggested - especially bare hands and loo roll.

And if you have people through your house on a regular basis, they're non-negotiable. To anyone that has a clue, of course.

We started with a new cleaner a few weeks ago, and as part of the welcome pack, they said they're used to handling icky things, but please respect that they don't take care of things like soiled tissues, sanitary products, condoms, nappies, pet mess, etc, and to please be mindful of disposing of them.

They didn't actually spell out 'clean your own skidders', but come on. Cleaners are humans too, and they don't want to be dealing with other people's faeces. They are not paid enough.

I find it boggling that some people obviously need all of this ^^ spelt out to them, but they clearly do. Confused

Bishbosh84 · 02/10/2019 18:43

I use bleach sparingly if necessary.
Alternatively, as a preventative measure, I put 1 or 2 squares of tissue down the toilet before I use it

Wizzbangpop · 02/10/2019 19:26

What do people with septic tanks do. As only can use a minimal amount of bleach otherwise the bacteria in the tank are killed.

Use bleach v occasionally. As the worst thing to pour down is paint stripper not bleach

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/10/2019 20:17

I hate toilet brushes but I was looking at a silicon one then other day which presumably wouldn't get manky like the standard kind can. Has anyone got one? Any good ?

I have 2 of the Lakeland silicone brushes ( 2 toilets)
Just swish them about under the water flow to clean, no problems !

They're about £10, last ages .

GordonBrockman · 02/10/2019 20:30

I have only just realised this was asking about skids under the water line Blush

I don’t think I have ever needed to remove one from below the water line, they just go with the flush.

I don’t agree that using toilet paper and your bare hand to wipe one that you have only just created off the bowl is disgusting though, it’s no different to wiping the exact same shit off your bum!

DoctorAllcome · 02/10/2019 20:45

@Wizzbangpop

I lived in a home with a septic tank (and it’s own well) out in the mountains for several years. You can use diluted bleach once a week to clean toilets etc so long as you occasionally add these bacteria soups into the septic tank a few times a year. Most drainage systems into a septic tank have a drain access port in the basement...it’s just a joint on the pipe that has a screw off cap on the side. So you unscrew it and pour a gallon of bacteria soup down there. It’s like probiotics but for the tank. THe access port is also used if you get a blockage so a repair guy can send a wire snake down there to break up the blockage.
Septic tanks also have to be pumped completely out every few years too and that prevents chlorine from building up.

dontpooyoureyesturnbrown · 02/10/2019 20:50

Lots of bleach, a very frequently changed cheap toilet brush and lots of lovely smelling foamy powder.

dontpooyoureyesturnbrown · 02/10/2019 20:51

Oh, and one of those plastic things you clip onto the inside of the loo to help keep it smelling pleasant.

makingmiracles · 02/10/2019 21:00

@safariboot I know you say you’ve tried everything...but have you tried the black bottle of harpic? Remove as much water from pan as poss with a disposable cup, then (ideally before bed or whenever no one will be using it for the longest time) just squirt aload of the harpic down and leave for as long as poss. Shouldn’t even need to scrub as in theory it will just all flake off/disintegrate. It’s great stuff for a heavily stained/limescaled toilet, no elbow grease required!

TheGonnagle · 02/10/2019 21:05

You all need a plumbed in bum gun. Sorted.

PrimalLass · 02/10/2019 22:00

very frequently changed cheap toilet brush

frequently changed = frequently added to landfill

midsomermurderess · 02/10/2019 22:32

The duck pads aren't wipes. They are paper infused with a disinfectant.

dontpooyoureyesturnbrown · 03/10/2019 00:05

Yes prima but at least my loo and brush are squeaky clean Grin
