What do you do with skid marks that are below the water line? 🤔

OP posts:
Ariela · 01/10/2019 12:09

A water softener means the loo doesn't collect limescale. So long as everyone cleans off their own skidmarks as they go, no need for a toilet brush or cleaner.

Delatron · 01/10/2019 12:15

Surely if you put your hand under the water line with the toilet paper and wipe off the skid marks the pooey water goes all over your hand? Now I know you’ll all say you can just wash your hands but I don’t like the thought of it.

Though I equally don’t like loo brushes so I have no answer!

oreosoreosoreos · 01/10/2019 12:20

I can't remember who but someone said about never getting the limes ale off their toilet- it is possible!

Push all the water from the toilet out through the u bend (easiest way is to use a loo brush with a plastic bag on top).
Pour cheap vinegar down the toilet. Use a cloth to wipe it over higher points if it doesn't come up high enough.

Leave for a few hours, then scrub with a scourer.
You might need to leave a while longer and scrub again.

Pour hot water into the loo
Watch as sheets of limescale fall off Shock
If they don't, repeat!

DSSs bathroom probably hadn't been cleaned for about 6 months (Envy

MCGrindah · 01/10/2019 12:20

Wipe it off with a bit of bog roll then wash my hands well Confused

It's my own human shit, not radioactive toxic waste.

Ozziewozzie · 01/10/2019 12:25

Personally, we squirt flash Bleach. I have a 3.5 year old and an 18 mth old. Both had and one still has a toilet obsession. I’m not risking my baby waving a germ ridden toilet brush around the house. She also puts just about everything in her mouth.
Our toilet is really clean. Not many skids at all, yet 4 of us use the loos.

GordonBrockman · 01/10/2019 12:33

We have a bum hose which is brilliant for removing skids. If anyone (kids/guests) doesn’t remove theirs a squirt of bleach does it.

At other people’s houses I use loo roll.

gamerchick · 01/10/2019 12:34

I use those flushable Toilet Duck pads

There's no such thing, please stop flushing them down the bog Hmm

I'm a cleaner and the worst job I ever had was someone who didn't have a single toilet brush in the house, but had 4 toilets and I was only asked to come in every 2 weeks

I had a cleaning job like that once but only 3 bogs. Every 2 weeks and no toilet brush I used to bring one with me. I'm very glad o don't do domestic cleaning anymore.

DoctorAllcome · 01/10/2019 12:37

I use 1 toilet brush for all my bathrooms. I use them until they are completely frayed out. Current one is 5yrs old. But I clean the toilet brush after every use. I clean toilet with toilet bowl cleaner and scrub above and below waterline to u bend with the toilet brush. I flush, then clean the toilet brush in the clean toilet, then flush again giveing brush a final rinse from water entering toilet. Tap excess water off brush on toilet rim. It is still bright white, no smell. Then it lives in the utility room under the sink...with cabinet door open for 8hrs or so until it dries out. Then I shut the door until next use.

I don’t understand keeping a toilet brush in a holder/caddy in your bathroom. That’s what makes the toilet brush stinky/gross. Using it and then without cleaning it, putting it directly into a caddy all drippy and filthy making it slimy and never drying out.

cinderellainyellakissedafella · 01/10/2019 12:40

I use bloo powder after skid mark removal to get the loo and bathroom smelling nice again.
A capful dropped into the water and lots of lovely foam to get everything smelling lovely 😊

SilverySurfer · 01/10/2019 12:42

SherbetSaucer
My cleaner takes care of any and all chores! I don’t think I’ve cleaned the toilet in three years!

I hope you're joking.; It's beyond disgusting to leave skid marks for your cleaner to deal with. I always check my loo before my cleaner arrives, I would be mortified if I hadn't cleaned my own skid marks.

barearsedloverofthigh · 01/10/2019 12:59

Giving your loo a quick slathering in vaseline will mean those turds slip down with no unsightly skid marks. Voila! A beautiful sparkling, guest ready loo!

cinderellainyellakissedafella · 01/10/2019 16:26

I do use a toilet brush but they are so cheap I don't mind replacing them often (£2 at Asda) so they don't get disgusting here

HystericalSnowflake · 01/10/2019 16:29

I just shove a load of bleach around and down

Johnsonsfiat · 01/10/2019 16:30

I have a toilet brush, but don't use it. It's like bowls in sinks: extra work and more mess. Bleach gets rid of skids. The green Harpic smells nice.

frazzledasarock · 01/10/2019 16:33

Try denture tablets to clean limescale in toilet. Put a few down the toilet leave fore half an hour then flush and pour hot water down. Works really well.

PotPlantKiller · 01/10/2019 16:38

Why do you all gave such skiddy toilets, what are you eating!

We rarely have mess that doesn't flush away but when we do I just get a wad of toilet paper and give it a swift wipe. My hand isn't in there for hours while the paper disintegrates.

itbemay1 · 01/10/2019 16:40

@longwayoff I have never had a toilet brush until I got a silicone one. It's brilliant!

GrapefruitGin · 01/10/2019 16:41

Wait - what’s wrong with toilet brushes?

longwayoff · 01/10/2019 16:58

O thanks @itbemay1, I've ordered one, arriving tomorrow. I once confessed on MN to buying a toilet brush once every 3 months or so, then binning it after one good scrub and cleaning with vinegar, bicarb and tissue in the interim. Blimey, it was worse than biting the heads off kittens for breakfast according to MN. Looking forward to trying this one, hope its a keeper Smile

SudowoodoVoodoo · 01/10/2019 17:02

I'm really not convinced that any of the alternative method are more effective or hygienic than having a toilet brush.

IBS is rife through my family, one DS had food allergies in infancy which seems to have permanently affected his output. Between our digestive systems and the modern shapes of toilets and their literally piss-poor flushes (seriously you have to stand and hold and hold to deal with the aftermath of a wee and a bit of paper Confused), a toilet brush with a squirt of Harpic is essential to deal with the aftermath of a poo. I'm not ready to deal with the consequences of a dyspraxic 8yo using a toilet brush, and sometimes, it ain't exactly fresh when I discover the remains that the shitty flushes can't cope with.

Oh how I curse the fallacy of the "eco" flush. I'm sure I have to flush much more to deal with it's failings, plus use more toilet cleaner.

Trust me I'm not putting my hand below the waterline, and a wad of toilet paper is not going to cut it.

Toilet brush haters, please don't embarrass guests by providing no sensible means to clean up after themselves. I'm not putting my hand in my toilets, I'm not putting it in anyone elses loo either!

Swisskit · 01/10/2019 17:23

Fill the toilet brush holder with a dilute bleach solution. That way any germs on the brush will be killed.

FurrySlipperBoots · 01/10/2019 17:30

@itbemay1

Do you have a link? I've asked everyone who's boasted about theres and nobody is responding! I looked on Amazon but there were some dodgy reviews!

barearsedloverofthigh · 01/10/2019 17:34

I cross my legs and use sheer willpower to get me through the week without shitting. Then on the weekend I have colonic irrigation to hygienically remove the backed up turds.

itbemay1 · 01/10/2019 17:39

Hope that works if not eBay silicone toilet brush

OooErMissus · 01/10/2019 18:24

we never have guests...but now you mention it, that wouldn't be very nice for them!

No, it's not nice for them!

We have guests through our house all the time. Friends and family staying over (MIL for a month every year), people for dinner regularly, kids' friends almost daily.

There's absolutely no way we can't provide the means for them to clean they loo, should they need to.

I also don't understand how a loo brush that is cleaned after every use is worse than shoving your bare hand down below the water rim to remove shit. That is so grim. And expecting your guests to do that.
