Old fashioned things you do?

Are there things you do that you realise have become old fashioned? I din't mean things you do for affect like lighting your house with antique oil lamps. But normal things that have slowly over time become old fashioned.

If I make salad we still have lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes, and that is it.

I sew buttons back on...

Natsku · 28/09/2019 18:41

I wash rugs by hand and squeeze the water out with a mangle rather than pay for them to laundered

LenoVintura · 28/09/2019 18:43

Use a paper diary.

SpecialKRocks223 · 28/09/2019 18:47

I tell my Auntie I love her to her face instead of liking and sharing a picture on Facebook 🤣

Redpriestandmozart · 28/09/2019 18:49

I squeeze the thin old bar of soap onto the back of the new bar!

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 28/09/2019 18:49

As above, paper diary and address book. There must be more things I do... Will have a think!

profpoopsnagle · 28/09/2019 18:50

I tend to have a teapot with loose leaf tea. And delivered milk in glass bottles.

CatCave · 28/09/2019 18:50

What's old fashioned about salad? Confused

I add up in my head or on paper as opposed to using phone/calculator.

lazylinguist · 28/09/2019 18:51

Use a teapot and loose leaf tea, use a paper diary, have a landline phone, use full sentences and correct grammar and punctuation in text messages.

Greenglassteacup · 28/09/2019 18:51

I mend and repair things
I write letters with pen and paper
I have a paper diary and address book
I like scented drawer liners and lavender bags

DownstairsMixUp · 28/09/2019 18:52

Paper diary. My manager asked me if I could keep a outlook diary as I go out on visits a lot and I was 😲 as I always kept a paper one. I'm getting used to outlook slowly 🤣

checkmateplz · 28/09/2019 18:53

Say please and thank you 😂

Youreterriblemuriel99 · 28/09/2019 18:55

Buy the Radio Times at Christmas even though we have Sky & I can see what’s on 🤔

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/09/2019 18:56

I mend/repair things too, @Greenglassteacup. And I read mainly actual books, not kindle ones.

raspberryk · 28/09/2019 18:57

My kettle is a stove top kettle that whistles.
I make gravy the proper way and stock.
Cover food with an upside down bowl or plate.
Play records.

UFOLover · 28/09/2019 18:57

I make my children write thank you cards for presents

SecretWitch · 28/09/2019 18:58

I am also a full English texter. I don’t mind people who use ‘u’ or gr8 but I just cannot bring myself to employ textese.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/09/2019 19:00

I do the soap thing, too.
Paper diary, mending and repairing, writing letters and cards with ink, taking notes by hand, no car (I use public transport or walk), landline phone, wet brushing rugs, ...

lazylinguist · 28/09/2019 19:01

Oh yes, use soap instead of shower gel too.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 28/09/2019 19:01

I cook from scratch, eat all meals together around the kitchen table and don’t let my kids have TV or computers in their room until 16.

jennymanara · 28/09/2019 19:02

Surely everyone replaces buttons? Or do people now just get rid of clothes if a button comes off?

  • I read books made of paper
  • We play records
  • I make pizza from scratch
  • I am a woman and not allowed to vote (EU citizen)
  • I use a china teapot from the 1960s
  • A lot of my furniture is G-plan
  • I believe in the state, like it's the 1950s.
LemonPrism · 28/09/2019 19:11

Are paper diaries old fashioned? I'm 24 and have always used them. Phones die but diaries don't...

LemonPrism · 28/09/2019 19:12

I write letters.. to my family back home. I text them all the time but they like my letters

IncrediblySadToo · 28/09/2019 19:13

Nothing, I’m a thoroughly Modern Millie
