Shiny new thread, continuing from here

A diary thread for our daily meals, to record, share, glean menu inspiration and chat, but no judging each other’s food choices.

Glass of rose wine

tigerbear · 10/12/2019 20:42

@onlyhereforthefood - I’m intrigued by the mince pie porridge!! Do you make it yourself?

tigerbear · 10/12/2019 20:44

Porridge with banana, cherries, cinnamon, hazelnut milk
Coffee

No lunch

Tiny pasta cooked with truffle oil, cherry tomatoes, garlic, onion, red pepper, Parmesan and chorizo and peas. I hadn’t made this for about 10 years, and if if for say so myself, it was amazing! Smile

onlyhereforthefood · 10/12/2019 20:57

@tigerbear nope! Although I am sure a homemade version is possible & nicer!
this is just Sainsburys sachets

AwkwardSquad · 10/12/2019 21:03

@onlyhereforthefood have some Wensleydale with your mince pies, it’s delicious and bumps up the calorie content nicely! Or I had a traditional Dorset variation once - warm mince pie, lift up the lid, dollop of clotted cream, pop the lid back on. Amazing.

tigerbear · 10/12/2019 21:55

@onlyhereforthefood - ah, I had visions of you mashing up a load of mince pies into a pan!

Bloodybridget · 11/12/2019 14:43

Mm, I love the sound of mince pies with clotted cream, not that I need extra calories. Haven't posted for a few days, have been away staying with family, eating out, don't want to dwell on the particulars!

Ellapaella · 11/12/2019 17:04

Slice of marmite toast
Handful walnuts
Tuna salad for lunch
Small slice chocolate cheesecake

Not sure about dinner yet as I'm not feeling at all hungry. Will probably be fish pie and veg.

Geekster1963 · 11/12/2019 17:06

Ww lemon meringue bar (disappointing)

Morrison's Brie and cranberry sandwich (yum!)

Vegan pesto pasta with rocket salad

Not a bad day calorie wise!

AwkwardSquad · 12/12/2019 05:58

@Pepperwand yes, it’s very easy with a decent food processor and much nicer than bought ones. You can vary the nuts, dried fruit and flavours as you fancy, and they keep well.

Coconut and lemon is lovely - cashews, almonds, desiccated coconut, dates, apricots, lemon zest, ground ginger, lemon zest. Roll in toasted coconut.

Peanut butter and cacao is really tasty, but a bit messy!

AwkwardSquad · 12/12/2019 05:59

@Bloodybridget maybe a few highlights? Just so we can have some vicarious enjoyment!

OP posts:
Bloodybridget · 12/12/2019 10:20

Oh OK! Two different kinds of Iceland mince pies, which were indeed very good, especially the crumble topped ones. Excellent bread from Cottonrake bakery on Great Western Road. Nothing else outstanding, but a great deal of it!
