Why are all CBeebies presenters very young?

Well they all look young to me!
Certainly under 30.

Why not have a 60 year old presenting?
I actually can’t remember ever seeing anyone over about about 40 presenting CBeebies, which is a bit odd as they seem very hot on diversity.

Is it just me who thinks this?

Probably because children think a 25 year old is ancient, let alone a 60 year old.

PullingMySocksUp · 18/09/2019 13:07

But why is being ancient a bad thing?

Chickenitalia · 18/09/2019 13:08

Presenters over the age of 40 probably have more self respect. Those young’uns bouncing about the place in Primary coloured clothing give me a headache, never mind having to do it for a living 😁

There used to be all sorts of people reading bedtime stories, no idea if they still do. And Justin has to be getting on a bit now. It’s been a while since I was forced to suffer CBeebies.

And also because a lot of people start off in kids TV as a stepping stone into other TV work?

EdtheBear · 18/09/2019 13:08

Many presenters learn their trade on Children's TV. Then move on to other things, some seem to disappear completely!

porta · 18/09/2019 13:10

How old is Rebecca? She looks both very young and quite old at the same time.

FlyingBanana · 18/09/2019 13:10

Cant quite imagine philip Schofield back in the broom cupboard !

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/09/2019 13:10

They could have a mix of ages I suppose. I think they are like the fun big brother or sister.

porta · 18/09/2019 13:10

Justin is def over 40, surely Andy is too.

StarlingsInSummer · 18/09/2019 13:13

But why is being ancient a bad thing?

It's not to me. But children often seem to find it harder to relate to people who are a lot older than they are. I presume that's the received wisdom on it, at least.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/09/2019 13:14

I like older people - it’s the grannies and grandpas some kids don’t have.

SudowoodoVoodoo · 18/09/2019 13:15

They need the energy and enough ambition/ desperation to override personal dignity. That's gone by 35 Grin

DioneTheDiabolist · 18/09/2019 13:17

Justin and Chris are 49.
Pui is 48 and Sid is 52.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 18/09/2019 13:19

fresh out of drama school enthusiasm !

Soen · 18/09/2019 13:19

Ah I remember Chris Jarvis when he started out on cbbc in the 90s. He hasn't really changed much

hsegfiugseskufh · 18/09/2019 13:20

theyre not all young! a lot of them are over 30!

BogglesGoggles · 18/09/2019 13:22

Young people are cheaper maybe?

nonmerci · 18/09/2019 13:22

Older people probably don’t want to bounce around singing nursery rhymes tbf, I know I wouldn’t want to and I’m not even that old.

hsegfiugseskufh · 18/09/2019 13:22

Rebecca (I goggled her) is 34, and is married to Sidney who she presented lets play with!! I didn't expect that!

Baguetteaboutit · 18/09/2019 13:24

Apparently Andy is only 38 yrs. He looked that ten years ago.

LiveRightNow · 18/09/2019 13:25

I'm sure I've seen Floella Benjamin read the bedtime story and she must be nearly 70 now! And Bernard cribbins still does kids TV.

BatmanLovesTheCircus · 18/09/2019 13:25

Sid is 52

Blimey!!! Shock

hsegfiugseskufh · 18/09/2019 13:27

dolly parton read the bedtime story the other night! that surprised me.

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 18/09/2019 13:27

Sid, Chris, Justin & Pui still look relatively young though.
I suppose what I’m saying is, why not have someone who actually looks old(er) . What’s wrong with being 65 ( & looking it! )

OP posts:
hsegfiugseskufh · 18/09/2019 13:29

nothing is wrong with it! I would guess older people don't actually want to present kids tv?
