I own a hair salon so AMA but nothing hair related! More like what do we really think when you're late etc 🤫

How often do people tell you that they really don’t like their haircut, and how do you respond?

I always think that if must be quite common but that very few customers speak up because ever time I have, the stylist and salon manager have always been very defensive and dismissive.

DementorsKiss · 16/09/2019 14:32

how does it work, do you hire hairdressers or do they pay to rent a chair in your salon?

How do you come up with the prices, most hairdressers seem to charge a very high amount for colour etc

Twickerhun · 16/09/2019 14:32

How many of your clients tip the staff? And if so how much?

MedalMedalMedal · 16/09/2019 14:33

How awkward is it to try another hairdresser? Does the one you’ve been having feel annoyed they’ve lost a customer?

Housewife2010 · 16/09/2019 14:35

Do you clean all the brushes and combs very well between each client? I was appalled when I went to my old hair salon in Harvey Nichols for a 9am appointment and there was hair on the brush that they were going to use on me.

horseridingaddict · 16/09/2019 14:36

Most of the clients now have been clients for years so they're more like friends so actually it's very, rare for them not to like their hair. However if someone didn't we'd get them back in and see what we could for them

I'm employ the other stylists. Prices are high as myself and stylists have had years of experience, extra training, and use top quality products! You'd be very surprised how much colour product is used on one person!

Il also interested to know about tipping. I find it excruciatingly embarrassing to tip in cash when I've paid for the appointment by card.

LittleLongDog · 16/09/2019 14:39

I’m a serial salon hopper - I go from hairdresser to hairdresser (usually based on new customer discounts).

If I had my hair cut with you then didn’t return (because I was at yet another hairdressers) would you notice/wonder if it was because I didn’t like the haircut?

horseridingaddict · 16/09/2019 14:39

Some people tip some people don't! But being honest i def go out of my way for the toppers as it's shows they really appreciate you

No brushes don't get cleaned between each client, on a fully booked day that would be impossible! End of the day they would get done

horseridingaddict · 16/09/2019 14:41

If people hop between stylists then not a problem at all, if I had done someone for years then they all of a sudden changed to someone else then I think it's just polite to explain why and if I'd something wrong

Do you all talk about customers when you're in the little staff room out the back?

horseridingaddict · 16/09/2019 14:44

Yes we do talk about them if they have been monumentally rude

OP posts:
horseridingaddict · 16/09/2019 14:45

We also hate clients walking into the staff room!

FirstTimeToddlerMum · 16/09/2019 14:46

I've boxed dyed my hair when I was desperate and couldn't get into my usual hairdresser , I haven't told her yet and it's ridiculously dark ... how much is she going to hate me?! Grin

horseridingaddict · 16/09/2019 14:47

She is going to be so pissed! And will prob you charge you more than she normally would for someone else that had done the same

^ err, what?

FirstTimeToddlerMum · 16/09/2019 14:52
Confused
horseridingaddict · 16/09/2019 14:54

What I meant to say was, it will now be classed as colour change so will be a lot more money than normal, but I would add on extra too

LoseLooseLucy · 16/09/2019 14:55

Crikey, what's the name of your salon? To swerve it 😬

horseridingaddict · 16/09/2019 14:57

Every hairdresser I know does it too! Life lesson.....don't ever piss off your hairdresser

OP posts:
Kahlua4me · 16/09/2019 15:01

How is dying your own hair when you can’t get to the salon pissing off the hairdresser? If that’s your attitude I am amazed you have long term customers!

LittleLongDog · 16/09/2019 15:01

So you’re already charging more to cover the extra time and products (fair enough) but you’ve also decided to charge extra on top of that? Because you’re pissed off that a loyal, regular client didn’t have time to get to the hairdressers?

I have a question; do you consider yourself to have good morals?

shiningstar2 · 16/09/2019 15:03

Sometimes when I've been with same hairdresser a long time I meet with resistance when I want to change my style. Do you think hairdressers get a bit complacent with long term 'regulars' and just want to encourage the easy option with them eg just trimming a bit off the same style rather than going with a full style change?
